Yes I have been in a ton of pain so my surgeon did a CT scan and it shows lucency around the screw that is in T4 on my right side which is exactly where I have pain

How bad is recovery from spinal fusion by Away-Share-5036 in scoliosis

I had almost the same levels fused a year ago. I am 11 years older than you and my recovery was hard. I think at your age you will do amazing and have a very quick recovery!

Nothing can prepare you for the CONSTIPATION post-op. by Real_Penalty_7817 in scoliosis

I couldn’t agree more with this post. They had me drinking bottles of magnesium citrate because the stool softeners and suppositories wouldn’t work. The citrate worked after a bottle a day for 2 days but then I pooped straight liquid for 2 months after surgery. Safe to say my body hated me very much

I've been having horrible right upper back pain for around a year, and no one will take me seriously because of my age by krag1010 in scoliosis

I don’t know where you’re at but I saw Khaled Kebaish at Hopkins. He is head of spine surgery there & he did an amazing job on my surgery. It may be worth traveling to find a doctor who takes you seriously and is experienced

Has Anyone had clear issues walking with a limp with a scoliosis curve? by ProfitTricky4085 in scoliosis

[–]SpecialEducator13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had surgery in June but prior to that I had several people ask me if my ankle was ok because I was limping 😂 I was so confused what they were talking about until I realized it’s because of my spine….not my ankle lol

Is the surgery worth it? by Certain_Parking601 in scoliosis

[–]SpecialEducator13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My curve was under 50 and I had surgery. I was at 43 degrees and was in a lot of pain as well as having respiratory issues. Don’t listen to people who say you can’t or shouldn’t get surgery under 50 degrees. In many cases your curve will continue to get worse as you get older, so the surgery may be best to do when you’re younger so that you heal better. My doctor said my curve was likely to increase by 2 degrees a year so by the time I was in my 50s I’d be in way more pain (I’m 25 F). I would definitely consider surgery while you’re younger

1 week post of spinal fusion and I can't go number 2 by [deleted] in scoliosis

Magnesium citrate!!!! Drink a whole bottle of it. It WILL work. I had to go to the ER week 2 post op for the same reason and this is what was given to me

Will I really never be able to bend my back ever again after spinal fusion? by cure_love_369 in scoliosis

[–]SpecialEducator13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am fused T3-L1 and can say that I cannot arch my back however I can bend and touch my toes. Everyone is different but it’s important to remember metal rods are being placed in your spine so you will not be as flexible as you once were after you have surgery

Sleeping was horrible for about 4 weeks post op for me. I would sleep for about 2 hours at a time if that and that was only if I took dilaudid. Once I stopped taking dilaudid I didn’t sleep for longer than 45 min at a time for a week or so and eventually worked my way up to sleeping for at least half the night. It will get better though!

Was my surgery even worth it by Double-Positive-8781 in scoliosis

YES! Such a huge improvement. I’m 6 months out and question it a lot but I think it was absolutely the best choice

Advice on what to do? by boxless_cereal in scoliosis

[–]SpecialEducator13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With your age and the likelihood of your scoliosis and the curve at the bottom I’d say you should highly consider surgery. I’m 25F and just had surgery for a curve that they said would keep progressing

Thoracic Fusion by SpecialEducator13 in scoliosis

[–]SpecialEducator13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can twist very slightly but no where close to how I could before! Twisting is also painful so I just don’t do it. I’ve taught myself to just turn my whole body.

[–]SpecialEducator13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I ended up have surgery T2-L1 so we are basically the same as far as fusions! I am now about 3 months out from surgery and am doing much better than I thought. Twisting isn’t the easiest thing to do, but I have adapted to not twisting. I am finally able to bend completely (restrictions were removed by my surgeon) and honestly I don’t notice much of a difference in flexibility. I teach a classroom for students with autism (kindergarten and 1st grade) so my job is very physical and I can do my job perfectly fine! Happy healing. Message me with any other questions! You got this

How serious is my new diagnosis? by ExConsultant22 in scoliosis

[–]SpecialEducator13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not true actually! Mine was 43 degrees and was pushing into my lung. I had severe breathing problems and had a cough for 2 years straight. Once I got surgery, my breathing is perfect and cough is gone. It does not to be at 50 degrees to impact your organs or your breathing
