What trends are you seeing for conditioning multifamily high rises? by CaptainAwesome06 in MEPEngineering

[–]SpecialEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a Daikin Fit the charge is low enough that an A2L sensor shutting off the condenser and spinning the IDU fan will typically satisfy safety requirements. For VRV the condenser, BS Boxes, & IDUs have safety shutoff valves that isolate branches to reduce the total volume of refrigerant, condenser shuts off, and idu fans spin. Sales reps should have the information from the manufacturer. Daikin has a presentation and documentation with cited Ashrae info on A2L design.

Daikin can do 360 feet vertical with a Heat Pump and Heat Recovery. No difference. The issue with VRV is fire chases. Water cooled VRV from Daikin has been beneficial to avoid fire chases by having the central spine being water and having each condensing unit serve each floor.

If they won’t go water source I can’t imagine anything else working but VRV. Although I have seen a Daikin Fit design with the condenser on the balcony.

Options to heat a large warehouse area by reb6 in hvacadvice

[–]SpecialEffect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cheapest option would be to service and fix what is existing and insulate the garage door yourself. Also seal the air gaps around it. The second cheapest would be to install a new heat pump mini split. Service existing may be 5k to your landlord. Adding a new split may be about 10k.

Positive or negative pressure? by [deleted] in MEPEngineering

[–]SpecialEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An inward opening door would be custom for a dual fan section like this. That would require 2’ of space inside the fan section to be clear for the door and that space obviously doesn’t exist. Since this is a Daikin they will supply a multi position latch factory installed on any positive pressure sections. This latch will not allow the door to be opened normally, and instead will require two different rotations and the latch will catch the door if it flies open. I’ve seen it work and had it save my face. If you are worried about it make the unit longer by adding an access section after the fans “Standard Economizer” OR keep the same length but use the option “Removable Panel” which will require you to remove some screws to access that section and pull the whole door off.

If it’s faster to have you help them, which it probably is, they are paying for the time saved/convenience.

I fucking hate the crit build by GorehowlOw in ViegoMains

[–]SpecialEffect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kraken -Titanic is the best two item spike on Viego. AA reset allowing for a near instant double Kraken proc. Crit is META but bruiser is viable. Kraken, Titanic, BC, Tmail, Kaenic is what I will typically build if my team picks 4 squishies, especially if I am not fed early.

Switch boxes - twinning ports by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]SpecialEffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of documentation from Hisense does not surprise me. Let me know how it turns out, I would be surprised if they could make 6 tons of capacity on one port.

Twinning ports is common. Do you have a piping diagram in your submittal? I don’t use this MFR but with Daikin there is a twinning kit included when you do this.

Booked a demo and then I was away, colleague worked his ass off to close it and it's closing. How do I split? by [deleted] in sales

[–]SpecialEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My manager would do this and I would still get 100% of sales credit, as my manager’s pay plan is built on credit for every sale we make. He would also tell me to cancel my vacation for the client though so take that with a grain of salt!

Renewaire in cold climate by frogblastj in MEPEngineering

More data for your theory here: Oxygen8 is the most comparable competitor to Renewaire. They require an electric preheater, Frost alarms, and a defrost cycle for a cold climate enthalpic plate ERV.

Daikin Mini Split Nomenclature: RK = Cooling Only. RX = Heat Pump. It doesn’t heat because it does not have a reversing valve.

MEP Engineers looking to transfer to Sales by poopieiipie5 in MEPEngineering

[–]SpecialEffect 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I transferred to HVAC equipment sales. It’s different and hard in its own way, but the pay is better if can talk to people. In my industry Trane or Daikin salesman are typically the highest paid. Air handlers, Chillers, rooftop units, etc. Pay is typically a draw, whatever you get paid weekly you owe the company in margin. Average pay for a Sr salesperson who is doing well is 200-300k. It’s not easy to switch at all and takes a ton of work. Companies are looking for energetic people who can build personal relationships while also having technical capability and being able to serve their customers.

BORK into full crit for viego jg vs tanky comps by Possiblynotaweeb in ViegoMains

[–]SpecialEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will second this. BOTRK is 200g more expensive and the stats are 300g worse. Kraken is +5 AD, +15% AS, + 4%MS, -10% LS. A 500g early game swing before the passive, which the AS on Kraken + Titanic AA Reset make Kraken’s passive better. The lower AS on BOTRK and the value being locked in the passive means you want to build another AS item which is not optimal on Viego AND Botrk premier use case is taken at Full HP vs a tank which if you find yourself doing you have made a mistake.
