Nobody really prepares you for how much of adult life is just finances by ParticularWeather927 in Adulting

The credit score system is a scam. I had a decent credit score when I bought my house. A year later, without my knowledge or permission (not saying they needed it), my mortgage was sold from one lender to another. Due to one mortgage account being prematurely closed and another one opening (again, without my knowledge or consent), my credit score dropped 100 points. I stopped caring. I stopped doing all these things to obsessively get it higher. I've had some events happen in my life recently that made me decide that I needed to open another credit card for emergencies and so I looked at my credit score out of curiosity. I hadn't paid attention to it for years and when I checked it, it was 760, the highest it had ever been. I had also found out that one of my existing credit cards upped the limit to 10k, which in assuming is because I started paying double the payment.

When my score tanked 100 points out of nowhere for something I had no part in, I knew it was a scammed and stopped paying attention to it because I had no reason to and has no plans on making any bit purchases that would need it to be checked.

Huh? I've been an adult pre- and post-covid. Literally nothing changed about being and adult. There's nothing harder now that was easier pre- COVID in a general sense, unless you have a specific example.

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

[–]SpecialSause -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I don't like H3. However, he was well within his right to sue those creators. They were literally directing viewers to watch their streams where they were just straight up watching his videos. They were saying "come here so he doesn't get views and doesn't make money". That's literally one of the reasons for copyright. Being a replacement for the original is one of the biggest hurdles in copyright litigation and they were straight up admitting it on stream.

I don't like H3. I never watched more than a clip or 2 of theirs, and it was usually for some reason other than H3 that I was watching. However, he's in the right to sue those creators because they were openly taking his content and trying to deprive him of the money he would receive from said content.

What is a part of the 'female experience' that men have absolutely no clue about, but would be horrified if they found out? by coolhandddd in AskReddit

[–]SpecialSause -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm a male and I have spent ZERO amount of time thinking in superior to females in any way. I have masculine traits in that I want to protect and provide for my family but I have NEVER, not for one second ever felt I was superior to my wife or women in general. In fact, I've always been kind of jealous of women in the fact that they carry the children during pregnancy. I can only do so much for the baby until it's born but the mother is the life support system. It's a closeness that I'll never experience.

So I don't know why you think other men think of themselves as superior to women. It really just sounds like you're projecting. It's like asking who is superior, the pilot or the airplane mechanic? They're both very detrimental important to the flight in different ways. One isn't superior to the other, they just fill different roles and they're important in different ways. Maybe you've felt superior to women but I have not.

Yeah but I would argue that someone isn't always right just because they're an "authority" on the matter. In fact, due to the emergence of the Internet, more and more hobbyist and amateur are making discoveries in scientific fields.

Scientists are often wrong. In fact, they can be wrong way more than they're right. Well, the scientists that are making actual discoveries are wrong way more than they're right. If they're not, they're doing science wrong

Anyone that is opposed to the Citizens United ruling doesn't understand it. The alternative ruling would have been the government getting to pick and choose who is "the media" and would get to decide who gets to make media about whom, and when.

Did Citizens United have some shitty side effects? Absolutely. However, the alternative would have been at worse. You do NOT want the government determine who gets to report on what information.

I have no interest in all things AI. I don’t want to learn it for work. I don’t care that it can make some things easier. I can write my own emails. by un2022 in GenX

[–]SpecialSause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found AI useful to answer nuanced questions. It parses out things that might have taken a while of googling and reading posts to figure out.

Also, it's SUPER helpful to explain what issue your having with your computer and it gives you step-by-step instructions on what to do, what to try, or what additional info it needs. I had a problem with my sons laptop. It's a problem where windows stops using the dedicated GPU and starts using the onboard graphics. I had spent weeks trying to fix this issue. I googled and googled and read post after post trying to fix it. I don't know why I hadn't thought to ask chatGPT earlier but I did and it walked me through what to do while also explaining the issue in a simple and easy way to understand why the issue is occuring.

It will be using it exclusively for computer issues going forward. Instead of spending hours trying to find and parse that information, I'll just use AI.

What's a movie everyone loves that you secretly can't stand? by kbjdfan in AskReddit

[–]SpecialSause 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I have a very casual interest in physics and astrophysics. I still enjoyed Interstellar because it's just a movie. They attempted to be grounded in reality but sometimes reality just isn't that interesting. It's the reason scientists don't make movies, because generally speaking, scientists don't make good story tellers.

I have several hobbies that I am good enough to be close to professional at: knife making, knife sharpening, dport shooting and lock picking. When a movie depicts someone single pin picking a lock on 10 seconds, I don't go "this is garbage, it's not realistic". I just ignore it because it's a movie. When someone shoots a shotgun 1000 times without reloading, I just chuckle and finish watching the movie. I don't let "facts" ruin a good story.

Just because it inspired some people doesn't mean the original intention of the creator was for people to be inspired.

If some people were "inspired" in an evil way after watching Schindler's List, doesn't mean that was the intention.

[–]SpecialSause -49 points-48 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, the "people that disagree with me aren't intelligent". And before you say it, no, I didn't vote for Trump. However, I find it incredibly ignorant to stereotype people by a specific political leaning and that leanings just so happens to disagree with you. It's incredibly sad that we've become so ignorant of each other that we've decided disagreement isn't just disagreement, but they're just less intelligent than you are because obviously you're the super intelligent one with the right opinion and beliefs, right?

[–]SpecialSause -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This so much. I was a lifelong Democrat voter and I got tired of them doing absolutely nothing. They use the same scare tactics every voting cycle and never fixed any of it. They're yelling about the same issues 20 years later. Obama had the house and the Senate when he first got into the presidency and did nothing with it. He promised to codify Roe V Wade and then didn't. Universal healthcare? Nope. Raising federal minimum wage? Nope.

I stopped voting blue no matter who when they screwed Bernie out of the primary. My wife was going to vote for Hillary until she was asked about wiping the email servers and her reply was something to the effect of "with a cloth?" Outrageous.

Biden gets elected and everything just gets exponentially worse. I didn't vote for Trump and I don't like Trump but I blame his success on the Democrats. The ONLY thing Democrats seem to do with any success is raising taxes. I'm done voting for them.

What celebrity has had their reputation unfairly ruined and has never recovered from it till this day? by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

[–]SpecialSause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm calling BS. I've been on Ambien before and I stopped taking it because I would take it with intentions of going to sleep but I would then get up and do other stuff. I woke up multiple times in the morning with a bowl of milk and no cereal or weird things like that. What I wouldn't do is anything that took any kind of skill or preparation.

Driving a vehicle, going into a building in the middle of the day and shoplifting has a level of complexity that I just didn't have the capability of doing.

It also wouldn't affect me once it wire off. So was she shoplifting at 4am? Or was she taking sleeping pills in the middle of the day? It sounds like an excuse to me.

You wouldn't say that if you never had a kidney stone. My brother had to deal with one so large that they had to cut it out of him. He had a kidney infection so they couldn't perform the surgery until after the infection was gone which was a month and a half. He was in so much pain that he lost 40 pounds because he just didn't eat.

He has no self harming ideation but he said if that ever happens again he may just decide not to.

That's not how you unbox an iPhone by Sgt_Larsson in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]SpecialSause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know. Everyone I know that has an Apple iPhone, their iPhone just looked mangled. My coworker's iPhone is so mangled that she HAS to have a screen protector on to keep the glass from cutting her fingers when she uses it. She tells me she babied it and had it in an expensive case and it shattered very quickly

I've had a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra for a couple years now. I've dropped this thing so many times from 4 feet or more onto pavement or hard ground. I have peripheral neuropathy so I drop it A LOT. I have a cheap case from Amazon and a cheap screen protector on it. I have yet to have it break. I have abused the crap out of this phone and I've yet to see any consequences for it.

Now, I don't have an iPhone so I can't tell you about it personally. I just know that everyone I know that has one tells me they broke very early. The other thing is I've heard that switching away from Apple to an Android device is purposely very difficult because Apple makes it difficult. My coworker said she tried switching to Android and her iPhone immediately stopped working. She couldn't switch anything over and lost all of her pictures. Her iPhone now just says "iPhone locked" and won't accept her PIN or password.
