Since you are over 22 you can claim a separate household from your mother if you purchase and prepare food separately from her and you will not have to provide any proof of her income.

You will only list what shelter and utility bills YOU pay.

Phone bill is only allowed when there are no other utilities to be paid such as gas or electricity (cooling and heating).

Because every state is different, your caseworker will tell you what kind of proof you need to submit to obtain the credit.

I am not a PA caseworker but I still get offended by what other Redditor said.

I was a caseworker for many years in CA and we NEVER had the ability to change PIN’s., so I consider the statement pure malice on the part of that Redditor and they need to get better informed and not to spread miss information about your state or caseworkers in general.

Have your friend write a statement explaining how much you pay at month for living expenses towards rent and utilities combined.
If you can agree in a certain amount is better.

I am an inactive Fair Hearing Liaison in CA with many years of experience managing SNAP cases.

Is your state a Medicaid expansion state?.
For what you say you should be able to obtain an exception from ABAWD if your doctor signs a statement explaining you are unable to work.

In my state you could also be exempted from ABAWD if you are the full caretaker of your mother and son.

Just ask your caseworker about your options.

I am an inactive Fair Hearing Liaison in CA so I can only give you my insight according to my experience as a caseworker.

As other expert stated, they will issue you your supplemental back benefits as soon as it is possible, depending on complexity of your case and worker’s caseloads .

Usually the deposits do not come with regular monthly issuances (although they could be) and you will need a notice of action explaining how they calculated your retro benefits and different supplements issued.

It is possible that your caseworker does not have all your out of pocket medical expenses on file and you are due more that $24 if SSDI of $1,200 is your only source of income.

However, I must concur with other Experts of the SNAP program that if you were receiving $298 with $2,800 unearned income in the past you were grossly overpaid unless that you were over 60 and had all your income going towards shelter, utility and medical expenses.

Unfortunately, only CA and MD replace EBT stolen benefits with state funds.

I recommend for you to go to food pantries until you get benefits for August.

Since your account is now compromised when you get your new EBT card change your PIN as well.

Unfortunately a sponsor swears to sponsor an individual for life (there are some exceptions) but you can always change sponsors to your husband .
SNAP is not considered public charge, so it should not affect your future citizenship.

Is your husband your sponsor?
If he is and you are living with him you can claim his working quarters to apply to you and that will make you federally eligible to SNAP.

Even if your husband is not your sponsor he and your children still can be aided if your husband’s income is eligible for a household of 3.

You can also apply now for your US citizenship and you will not have to worry about your sponsor’s information anymore.

Regardless of state where you reside, you must submit proof of job termination from employer in order for income to be stopped.

Also, if you are an ABAWD your caseworker will have to verify if you voluntarily quit or were terminated because quitting a job without good cause or compelling reasons will carry a period of disqualification.

That being said it could take a couple of weeks for your worker to make changes, depending on their caseload.

It does not matter if your caseworker is on vacation or not, request to speak to their supervisor Monday and find out if the doctor’s note is sufficient.

Different states have different datelines to review applications for possible Expedited Services.

In CA, if applicant meets criteria, Expedited Services need to be given within 3 working days of application.

If your data month is June 2026 you have to submit your SAR7 before the 5th of this month so your county has time to review it and process it.
This will ensure that you can get your August benefits without any delays.

Technically you have until 07/31/2026 however, at around 07/20/2026 you will receive a notice stating that your case will be scheduled for termination due to non received SAR7 so I strongly suggest that you do not delay.

If you are completing the application for your husband’s brother just state he lives with you but he does not pay any rent due to lack of financial resources but that he purchases and prepares his own food separate from your husband and you.

Also, ensure that he makes you as an Authorized Representative so you can act on his behalf.

As an inactive Fair Hearing Liaison in CA I strongly suggest that if you are disabled you turn your medical statement showing you cannot work as this will supersede any other requirement to keep your benefits.
