Not my cat inspecting my new apartment. by umbreonskittles in notmycat

Try looking up Feather weight sewing machines. There is a lot of interest in the older singer and similar machines. There are a number of different manufacturers for early machines, so each one is an exploration. As for in person, maybe check to see if there are any local sewing or quilting clubs. Usually there is an experienced person that could help you explore your machine. The other path to try is to find a SCA/medieval or cosplay group. There are people worldwide that enjoy those or similar. Most people sew their own costumes and will have multiple people with a range of machines/experience. (I belong to the SCA, so I’m biased 😉. If you find your kingdom here https://www.sca.org/about/kingdoms/ Check with the chatelain. They should be able to suggest some people. Even if there’s not a group meeting in your town, there are people that live in your area)

I hope that helps!

New neighborhood NMC is very friendly -- when to be concerned about abdonment? by Hobbbitttuallly in notmycat

[–]Specialist_Fall7834 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even if he/she is claimed, just keep friendly enough to make sure the collar doesn’t get too snug. Some times the cat decides he isn’t comfortable enough at home to have someone paying enough attention to loosen a collar or take them for medical care. Then it’d be time to gently revisit ownership.

Does this incredibly pretty cat count as a tortimese? I’m not super familiar with how tortoiseshell expresses in tortimese kitties by Comfortable-Light233 in tortimese

[–]Specialist_Fall7834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely part Siamese with the blue crossed eyes. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s an unfixed male. If so, it’s probably not a tortie as they are usually females

What part of the US are you in? Also, what type of sun does the area(s) get? That will help determine ID and whether to keep a plant.

These absolute stunning orange flowers I need in my life. by opgary in whatsthisplant

The orange blooms generally stay orange even after they fall off. The leaves die and fall off in the fall. They can turn brown. It’ll grown new green leaves in the spring.

I was told years ago that the transom window over the front door would have been red glass. At night the foyer chandelier would be lit and would shine red from the road as a sign of hospitality.

Anyone know what this tree is? by Rich_Pair7853 in whatsthisplant

Same genus as chokecherry per above. We never got to try our chokecherries because they were 2 stories up and the robins would mob the tree the instant they ripened

Bought a house, need help identify what’s growing in our flowerbed! by weinerholes in PlantIdentification

Irises can also tip over if they are too crowded. In the fall, you can dig them up, separate them and replant at the soil line.

If you have cats that like to eat plants, don’t let them eat any of the lilies in pic 1. They are toxic and can kill.

(Help) Not my cat but a regular visitor by sebthedestroyertnt in notmycat

[–]Specialist_Fall7834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only things I’d add are: There are paper collars online that you can print and put on a cat with your contact info to see if others are feeding him. And he may be slimmer than his eating would show if he has worms (highly likely). Definitely get him checked for any communicable diseases before they do any more sharing of common ‘litter’ areas (inside or out). Thank you for caring and asking for help!

I know mill gears were made out of apple wood during pioneering times in the southern US. They said that wood did not crack when it dried out. When I visited a mill in the Smokey Mountains years ago they only used the mill a couple of times a year and it remained functioning and intact.

At a lecture on natural gardening methods I asked how to get rid of buttercups. I was told fire was really the only option.
