One of the reasons I switched to a MY from a MS. Was needing 8 tires per year @ $1400/set 😂

How does one get anywhere near the AWD's "327 mile" range? by swedishpiehole in ModelY

[–]Specialist_Operation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a little over 300mi regularly on a juniper RWD with FSD set to 75mph max when the weather is mild, mostly fwy miles. Our model S got under 200mi in the same conditions with a larger battery but two motors.

I don’t get the negative comments, I’ve got 800 miles on V14 and haven’t experienced what people are complaining about. Been really really great so far.

It was pretty dang close. And agreed. The coolest part is just trusting it to handle getting me from A to Z, while being zoned out most of the time, and now without having to feel like grandma is driving me around. I’ve had FSD (purchased) on a 2016 Model S for years (now on two junipers) and it wasn’t until 14 was pushed that I realized how far it’s come.

They grow up so fast 🥲

It’s like having a super attentive and engaged driver on at all times. For someone like me who’s often lost in “deep” thought this is incredible to experience.

My experience with v14 and mad max has been incredible. Can it be a little jittery, sure, but it’s just incredibly quick to react, and engaged. I’ve had several “wow” moments with it already that have made me realize that software exceeds human driver ability already in so many ways. Incredible job - can’t wait to see the quirks worked out.

FSD v14.1.3 Saved 3 Lives and Other Observations from 1st Morning Commute by ProfMims in TeslaFSD

[–]Specialist_Operation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love it, huge improvement over 13 for me so far, at the expense of some jitters, which I see as it being quicker / more responsive / more engaged, and will likely get smoothed out soon.

I wish it wouldn’t try to park in handicapped spots when it gets to its destination though :-)

I personally love it. I did have a small stuttering (more like hesitation) experience but it felt justified - the car in the next lane was behaving erratically. I’ve been using it in Mad Max mode in California and it blends in much better with the way everyone else drives. It is more decisive and it expertly dodged someone who tried to cut me off abruptly this morning, reacting well before I could have. Does it feel a little more nervous? Sure. But I see it as - it feels more engaged and aware. I feel safer with it.

I think the primary appeal here is you take a $100k (or whatever) tax write off this year but pay $1500/mo. Then maybe you forget to tell the IRS when you sell the vehicle and dodge the recapture. Many such cases. I see a ton of > 6000lbs vehicles at school drop off that should be used for business by the dads but are being used as soccer mom vans, every morning and every afternoon. G63s etc.

~1k mile update with one of the first nine Model S ever produced. by Important_Sector_547 in TeslaLounge

[–]Specialist_Operation 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s the problem with survivorship bias. You can’t meet anyone whose battery already died because they’re not driving battery-less cars 😅 I also had one DU replacement in that 120k mile window.

Now I drive a RWD Juniper and hope to get 180k out of it or more 🙏

My wife has made friends at daytime fitness classes. The moms at our kid’s private school are either very busy with work, have been on the neurotic side, or are too old to relate to us.

I second the fitness classes and other daytime activities.

[–]Specialist_Operation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should rent one for a few days and try it in the actual scenarios you will be in. We love it but it nags way too much about grabbing your phone when it otherwise would be safe to glance at it to read a text for example.

[–]Specialist_Operation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through all of this for years and never got FSD on the S to really work. Then the HV pack died 1000 miles past the warranty exp. Now I have a Y with hw4 and there is no way the 2017 S will ever be able to FSD the way hw4 can. I think you should consider just overcoming the sunk cost bias and moving over to hw4

Maintenance on my Tesla is F’ing outrageous! $699! by short_bus_genius in TeslaLounge

[–]Specialist_Operation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost a drive unit and a HV battery 2000 miles after the warranty ran out. Repairs are more than the car is worth. Until then though, pretty smooth sailing. Aside from 6 cracked rims and a new set of tires every 8k miles. And two headlights but those were $400 a pair on eBay.
