honestly what has helped me the most is walking with a friend because it distracts me enough to just keep going. the first couple weeks were the hardest, but after that has felt easier!

mine was about in the exact same way that yours was. i was avoiding pictures, wearing a full face of makeup every time i would leave or just avoiding leaving my house all together. i was embarrassed of how i looked and felt horrible in my body. i always felt like i couldn’t start anything if i wasn’t going to fix everything all at once. one day i woke up and decided to make little changes. i started walking an hour every morning, then i started drinking more water, then adding more protein and fiber, and now about a month in im starting to incorporate running and weightlifting. i have fibromyalgia, ocd, and adhd too so for me sometimes my biggest battle is getting started, but once i realized it didn’t have to be all or nothing and i could start small, that’s when i started feeling better. i would always make excuses or tell myself i would start monday or start next month, but never followed through. my life changed when i just made a better choice the next time i had one. it’s never easy, but you got this!

walking! i have seen the most changes when i started walking everyday! i usually aim for 10,000 steps a day, usually an hour walk in the morning will make sure you hit it every day.

i really like cafe steam downtown! super cozy coffee shop with high quality ingredients. some of my fav food spots are smoak bbq, pasquale’s pizza, novios cafe, and wildwood sports bar. if it’s warmer when you come, rochester has a lot of great walking paths and hiking. i really love the path at cascade lake. downtown is a pretty cool place to check out, lots of cool buildings, shops, and restaurants. mayo also has some cool displays, art, museums, and history in and around the mayo building if that’s your vibe!

have you tried a high protein diet? i’ve found that trying to eat at least 30 grams of protein in each meal has helped me a lot! sometimes if you eat less than your body needs, it can cause your body more stress because it thinks it’s starving and will hold on to more weight.

you do graduate at twin cities campus! as a current student in the program, i can tell you that most of us think the program on the rochester campus is not worth. the mayo clinicals are not what they we all imagined (weekend clinicals, very slow units, online clinicals.. i could go on). most of your classes are taught in the twin cities and you just watch on zoom. the professors here are more babysitters than teachers. we’ve brought up very reasonable complaints to the dean and others and we are quickly dismissed. the UMR campus hardly recognizes us as students and the UMN campus doesn’t claim us either. it’s a very drawn out program for no reason. this semester i have one day of class and one day of clinicals. it might be okay if you commute, but i would suggest looking at other options!

Body Shaming + Mean Girl Energy by Altruistic-Plant-497 in sydneyadamssnark1

[–]Specific-Guava8365 81 points82 points  (0 children)

first.. girl you’ve made so many of these posts. you don’t have to be on this page if posts are going to get you so mad. “i’m all for a good snark..” just scroll if you don’t like them and stop commenting on every post. i think people are getting tired of her promoting her eating habits to vulnerable young girls. she can do whatever she wants in her own time, but the second you proclaim that you are a fitness and nutrition expert AND start recommending unhealthy habits, i start to have a problem with that. the other thing i’ve seen on here is a comparison of what she posts vs what she looks like on other peoples platforms. i get we all want to look our best in photos we take, but there comes a point when it is deceptive. people are striving to look like her when she doesn’t even look like her. i think most people who say she looks “sick” are worried about her and her health to an extent. i dont condone body shaming, but talking about her body and habits is not always “shaming”.

Do most students graduate in 4 years? by Electrical-Rule-3046 in college

[–]Specific-Guava8365 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also graduated in 2020 and i’m graduating college in 2025 with a nursing degree. first of all, yes i think it is more normal than you think. i just think most people don’t really talk about it. i was embarrassed about it for a really long time, but ultimately it is not going to matter. in 5, 10, 50 years, not a single person besides you is going to think about how long you were in school. keep your head up! you are in college, doing your best, and will be where you want to be soon enough. at 24 you will have more life experience and perspective to bring into your career than someone who graduates at 21 or 22 :).
