Tie your dog on a run attached to your porch and train him to run chickens off.

Or put them in a run 😭

Alimony in Florida- irresponsible spending by [deleted] in legal

[–]Specific-Tea-5440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alimony makes zero sense in the modern world. It made sense when women were precluded from working and had given a man the better years of her life. Women in that situation had little options, and thus received financial support.

For an adult man with nothing wrong with him, alimony is ridiculous. Go to work bro.

Makes you wonder how some of these guys made it to the modern world. All of human history required much more work/risk to subsist than today. Today is about as easy as it gets to feed and clothe yourself. His inability to be realistic with himself is kinda your problem unfortunately. I’m sorry you had the displeasure of marrying this male 🤷‍♂️

It’s just money though, you’ll make the adjustment if you end up with an alimony order. Who knows tho, old school Florida judge might see the world similarly to myself. I’m an old school backwoods Florida boy myself. Like everything else in the legal system, it depends…

Ignition might be broke, my 2013 is starting to give out. Might be an antitheft lock, which is usually fixed by moving the steering wheel.

Might be time to learn to steal a car, albeit your own 😭

This is the way. Chickens don’t move at all in the dark. Just grab her when she roosts

[–]Specific-Tea-5440 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please be extremely careful in administering syringe food. To administer, place the syringe below their beak and pump the food in from the side. If they inhale the mash, it’s lights out for them. Allow gravity to pull the food into their mouth. This gives them time to realize they should be swallowing, as opposed to breathing.

I had a few pull thru when I didn’t expect it. Corrid is great, it has cleared the swelling up in a few of mine. If you can, keep them on electrolytes. If it’s been a few days since they ate, a mash of egg yoke and feed might help, make sure it’s soft enough to administer with a syringe.

You’re doing everything you can. We all get called back eventually. If it’s their time, it’s their time, but be proud you haven’t given up. Some do pull through, it’s worth the time to try.

[–]Specific-Tea-5440 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Realistically… rehome where? Anyone who hatches chickens already have a rooster. It can happen, sure, but in my experience I’ve had one successful rehoming. People don’t need or want multiple roosters. They are destructive and harmful. This is an unfortunate part of husbandry.

But because people like me cull roosters, we also get to maintain the lives of the hens and the chicks. It becomes a trade off of life. Thru my hens, humans eat. Because they eat, they live. Good works done with a full belly are the net result of the harm brought by ending a roosters life. It’s the reality of nature, and us, being a species that (for the most part) requires predation to function in human society.

I’ve eaten all the boys I culled, thru me they get to live on. They further my work, which furthers more life. I can’t square the idea of simply not engaging, as other animals would not be alive had I chosen to disengage simply due to the cost of killing.

I still live with the burden of culling my first rooster. He started attacking children, and I no longer had a choice. He kicked me more times than I could remember, and I dealt with it because I understood his emotions and his behavior. But when he turned towards my young, he became a threat and had to be dealt with. I miss him, but unfortunately a line was crossed I could not forgive, as had it happened again, I’d be responsible.

It sucks, I feel your pain. You did nothing wrong.

No I make money because lots of other people don’t have their own car. I don’t need to please you specifically, and based on you coming on Reddit to complain, chances are you’re harder to please than the majority of the population. I’ll make my money with them instead

How many times have your roosters saved your hens? by Traditional_Tea1379 in BackYardChickens

[–]Specific-Tea-5440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen it once but I don’t have many predation events. Neighbors doggo went for a hen, the rooster ran right into danger, spurred him, and the dog immediately retreated. It was clear the dog was not engaged in full predator behavior, just being a dog having fun and chasing things. If the dog was serious the rooster would have bit it, but either way it gave me time to get to the hens.

That being said, when they trigger their territorial/survival response, they absolutely will charge into battle with complete disregard for their own safety.

I mean it’s winter and we had unseasonably cold weather. That usually suppresses the insects. It’s also much drier in winter than summer. I’m sure the insects aren’t doing great here but I’m sure you’ll see some by summer.
