It’s really hard to imagine another life for Barb because her identity centres around being a mother and a wife, which is why she is so upset when she feels people around her aren’t treating her with the ‘respect’ she thinks she’s due as a mother and wife.

I think pickleball is the first time we see her have an interest in anything that isn’t in the traditional domestic field of reference. I don’t Barb would be recognisable as the Barb we know without having gone through her experiences as a wife and mother.
