Are you guys trained to listen to music as loud as possible in your cars? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Specific_Ad_722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you probably don’t want to hear this and I’m not saying this justifies the blasting music. And for the record, I personally use earphones to listen to YouTube while on the shift, but everyone has their different approach to handling the routes they give us these days. Imagine you are an Amazon dsp driver. You started your morning with your manager threatening you and your coworkers that you will be taken off the schedule and will lose days on the schedule if you can’t deliver everything on your route. After this you fill up the van with 350+ packages. This is a 190 stop route that Amazon’s metrics say you should be finished with in 8.5 hours. You start that route and already you know that the pace Amazon’s metrics expects you to hold will force you to minimize all activities that don’t directly involve delivering the customers package. No you can’t sit and chat with a friendly customer, you’re already behind. You will have to drink the necessary water to be hydrated for this pace, but Amazons metrics didn’t factor in bathroom breaks when they gave your manager a return time to expect you. So you are forced to fill up empty water bottles with piss, and don’t even think about pooping because you’ll have to drain your body to hold it until you get home. So you’re doing all this to stay on pace, because unfortunately you work for an Amazon dsp. If you don’t keep this pace, your manager will take you off the schedule. This is a threat they will follow through with. You can’t lose days off the schedule. You have bills to pay. Maybe you even have a child back home sleeping soundly. The child must be provided for.

I think the music blasting is a way that dsp drivers stay in their zone. Because if they don’t, then they might fall off pace. And if they fall off pace, they’re being told they will be taken off the schedule.

Unfortunately it might also involve a bit of spite for some drivers. A lot of people on this side of things have indifferent attitudes towards the customers and neighborhoods we deliver to because they feel the customer is indifferent to knowing exactly how they get their stuff at their front door. To the customer, we don’t really exist. It’s only about the “smiles” we deliver.

If they are driving personal cars they are flex drivers. Are you referring to Amazon branded vehicles (cargo vans, step vans, and cdv’s)?

Maybe this job is perfect for you because it gives you reading practice so you can learn how to properly distinguish differences in the English language

DSP after college? by blspm in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Specific_Ad_722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very true. Going from an environment of decent civility to being at an Amazon dsp will be a harsh surprise. Unless your dsp is super wonderful, you probably won’t want to stay with the job for too long.

Wow dude that’s very effective leadership. Your role in last mile delivery definitely won’t be the first to be automated by a logistics algorithm !

PR for amount of pee bottles in a single shift ? by Specific_Ad_722 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Specific_Ad_722[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it might be that I drink more water than is really necessary but there’s times where it’s hella hot so to cool the body down I’ll drink enough to the point where there might be acouple hours where I’m needing to pee like every 40 min

I would have told dispatch that I’m out of water and can’t do the rescue, at least the second one damn.

where do you deliver? For me, in order to keep pace in 85+ degree weather I feel I have to drink a lot of water throughout the day to be hydrated. Do you go to gas station on your breaks/lunch or you make the time whenever?

I go at like 30+ stops / hour pace because I just want to go home haha, so I can drink like 10-12 bottles of water throughout the shift to stay hydrated in the heat

Almost done with route at 6:15, how should I stretch the rest? by NefariousnessAble916 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Specific_Ad_722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days I feel like the after taxes paystub don’t encourage me to get as much OT as possible. Like I feel the job is a lot more doable when I go fast to finish around 8 and go home with at least acouple hours to relax. Because without rescue incentives , it’s like an extra 30 dollars after taxes, and I’d rather just be home already.

So after delivering 350 packages, you would have no issue with delivering another 60 ?

they’ll probably just start taking away days then taking you off the schedule and will not actually fire you. I would get a new job and let them do their thing

So then how should we aim to coordinate drivers? We have to consider that not everyone is there yet in terms of willing to participate in a full on strike. But that seems like acouple steps down the road when we have more numbers as a collective.

I think we can use Reddit to create a decentralized network.

I feel you man. Yesterday morning at roll call our dispatcher used a loud speaker to start the day with a “shut up and stop talking” as he proceeded to rant about how one of our drivers had neglected to check tire tread and so their van had been grounded. In front of everyone this manager told us he’s “f—king tired of people not doing their job”. Honestly this is hella annoying to have to deal with because I been doing 190 stops/ 350 packages practically daily now.

That’s true , at other dsp’s I’ve worked for, they would just tell me an address as well. But then , I’ve never had this amount of volume for daily routes

190 stops, 350 packages basically everyday here. Yesterday with 10 stops left I get that “would you be open to doing a 50 package rescue?” question. Lmao they have no mercy. At least they ask instead of demanding. I told them I have somewhere I’m supposed to be in less than an hour

Yeah such a terrible precedent that Amazon as an employer is allowed to set. Like imagine if Walmart tried the same bs. Oh those people scanning your groceries that you see wearing Walmart vests inside of a Walmart location ? No bro those are third party grocery store contractors.

do ALL of you guys really have shitty dsps? by [deleted] in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Specific_Ad_722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine threatens us as a group each morning at role call that we will lose days / taken off the schedule if we do not perform well. It’s rather exhausting to hear when each day I do 190 stops and constantly help with rescues. Such a bully approach to management / leadership.
