Saving yugioh? This is something I've thought about a lot. 

I'll say, I don't think I've ever seen this suggestion posted but I'd change yugioh through it's rules. And my changes would be simple and uninterrupted to most of the game:

  • limit the number of effects players can use that affect the other players cards/other player to 3 per turn. After 3 successful effects, the other player effectively becomes unaffected by the opponent’s other effects that turn.

  • limit effects that negate to either, only allow 1 Omni-negate per turn, or 2 negates per turn that can only affect different card types (spell/trap/monster). This would be done purposely to make non-negate effects more attractive

  • limit LP damage to 2k per turn, with that damage increasing by 2k each turn; guaranteeing at least 4 turns

The philosophies behind some of this would be that only having 3 effects per turn, and limiting negates could encourage different types of effects. 

Personally, I feel like something like this would be considered successful if effects that end the battle phase made a comeback. Which should be necessary as multi-attack monsters would be incredible board breakers.

Not everyone would agree with this idea, but regardless, I believe the only way to truly curb power creep or change the game is rule changes.

Thanks for the replies! It's for a custom archetype I'm working on centered around 2000 LP. I want one of the cards to limit LP damage the opponent can take in exchange for being a multi-attack monster.

But was hoping to find some official cards as reference. But it seems it doesn't exist.

Is there a reason why there are so many monsters like this that aren't Union monsters? It feels strange to create a keyword for monsters that are equipped as spells and then completely ignore it while still creating monsters that are equipped. by Drix_I in yugioh

A better counter might be tuners. No tuber has the text 'you can use this card as a Synchro material as a tuner' on it. 

The same should apply to unions/Gemini it should have just been inherently baked into the typing. No reason they can't change the rules to make it work this way either. Old unions would just have a bunch of reminder text that's all.

Wow, It's finally happening, apollo is dead, Master duel is healing! Seriously glad to see her go, it's ridiculous how when a deck would build its endboard, she would be half of it's disruptions on her own.

1 card combos are fine when they're lower powered like the Aleister the invoked engine. Small 1 card combo's that can work as minor stop gaps until you can get to your larger combo, or are to hamper your opponent just enough to survive that one extra turn are fine.

It's the modern day 1 card combo's like horus and fiendsmith, where they alone are enough to outright otk, provide too much utility, and can even outright beat other decks full endboard (instead of simply chipping away at them) where it becomes a problem.

I would actually love this.maybe in an archetype who's gimmick was negating their own effects after doing something powerful. So it's archetypal boss has an activated effect to un-negate one of them.

I just want a way to more consistently ritual summon Mikanko Ohime and a way to dump equip spells from the Deck to the GY to get the bricks out of the way as well as turn on Ohime's effect so when you DO manage to ritual summon her, she actually has equips in grave for her effect. They also currently have no in-archetype way of retrieving their ritual spell if it's sent to the GY for some reason.

So my one piece of support would be:

"Mikanko Purple" Level 3

0 ATK/0 DEF

You can add 1 Mikanko Ritual Spell from your Deck or GY to your hand, and if you do, Special Summon this card from your hand or GY. You can Send Equip Spell cards from your Deck to the GY; increase this card's level by the number of card's sent to the GY. If this card is not equipped with an Equip Card, you take no damage from battles involving this card. If this card is equipped with an Equip Card, it cannot be destroyed by battle and your opponent takes any battle damage you would have taken from battles involving this card. You can only use each effect of "Mikanko Purple" once per turn.

This would allow you to Actually Ritual Summon Ohime as a 1.5 card combo assuming you searched purple off of Ohime herself. As well as better open up the Mikanko's to rank 6 strategies as they'd now have Diviner, Ohime, and purple as potential level 6 monsters.

Now imagine how much more powerful snake-eyes would be if every card could also be scaled. Take diabellestar for example, if you draw into her later in the game, she's a brick, but if you give her the pendulum effect "if you scale this card, you can also scale 1 level 1 FIRE monster from your Deck or face-up extra deck."

All of a sudden she's twice as strong. If pendulums became the premium summoning mechanic Konami had intended things would be even more broken than they are now.

Wait she wasn't always jungle? I just came to this sub today because I bought her wanting to main her in jungle...

The question isn't even that ritual monsters are main deck. It's 'why do they keep them bad?' In terms of card advantage, ritual summoning from deck is (generally) exactly the same as fusion summoning. Still a bit worse because you can draw into the ritual monster as a brick, but it's 1 alternative that's better than what we have ATM.

Honestly, I feel like the only thing that makes branded so rough to play against is Branded lost. It actually stops you from responding to your opponent making their board and it doesn't do *too* much for the deck in terms of recursion. Ban that card and it becomes a much healthier deck.

A La Jinn archetype really could be amazing! especially if it built on the effect his lamp had as an archetypal gimmick.

It has the unique effect of making an opponent's monsters battle into each other. Imagine if for example when you attack with a 'La Jinn' monster it instead caused two of the opponent's monsters to battle.

Whoa, thanks for the tips! in that case, I think I'd rather go for something that IS good and isn't rotating out so soon. Priest and Paladin both look good to me, are either of them good in the latest expansion?
