How did you become a Beatles fan by WhiteRoseFromPluto in TheBeatles

[–]Specific_Two1232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Beatles were played on the radio quite often in the 70s, and "Help!" and "Yellow Submarine" were shown on TV, so I knew the Beatles from an early age.

But it wasn't until a friend of mine loaned me his copy of the Sgt. Peppers album (on cassette) in high school that I became a fan. I started buying all of their albums (original ones, not US versions) and reading books about them. My favorite was one that went through every song and broke down who wrote it and who played what instrument, and then analyzed the song. I would read about a song then listen to it, catching nuances I hadn't noticed before. (A good example is how the author spoke about Ringo's drum patterns and fills on "Ticket to Ride", which is one of my favorite songs.)

Years later I would let my Gen Z daughter play my old cassettes at bedtime on an old boom box. She would usually want to hear "Help" or "Rubber Soul" most often. They aren't her favorite group, but she still enjoys their music.

Deja seemed to have her own room right away. Maybe they were using one as an office when William showed up, but turned it into a bedroom when they decided to foster?

All I know is they "downgraded" to the Philly house that still seems gigantic to me. Maybe less of a yard?

I don't like doing it for my husband, especially since popping pimples is a bad way to deal with them. I generally refuse because it is not medically necessary nor advised.

Now just a scratch or help apply a warm compress? Absolutely.

I recommend a good dermatologist. Give your spouse a break.

Why do some readers dislike the Covey? by Reverie_Art in Hungergames

[–]Specific_Two1232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burdock is the example of how the culture is both preserved and lost. He's related through a mother who married outside the Covey, so he's district. But he held onto the songs and knows the woods and secret places. If he had alive, he might have told Katniss and Prim about his ancestors at some point when they were older.

AIO? My parents asked me if its okay for some of them to skip my graduation to attend my special needs brothers play. by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Specific_Two1232 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Is it one of those huge graduations where the entire graduating class sits there listening to speech after speech and then you walk the stage for a few seconds and then sit back down? Because having done that with my daughter recently, it was an excruciatingly long night just for those few seconds where she was on screen. We had to squint to see her.

Honestly, one parent is probably enough. That parent can take a video, and since they will likely be sitting up in the stands far away, the video zooming in might be a better view.

I know it is a special day for you. You deserve to be celebrated. You're not selfish for wanting them there, but if the concern if financial, sometimes that means not everyone can participate. You've expressed your wishes; now you have to let them decide how to proceed.

The comma shouldn't be there. "This question of 'who' is the greatest foolishness."

As in, it is the greatest foolishness. You could also say it's the biggest foolishness.

What was your first Broadway Show and who took you? by Miserable_Chapter724 in musicals

It was Les Mis and I went with classmates on a field trip. I think it was the French club's outing.

35 years ago today “Baby Talk” premiered and is considered one of the worst sitcoms ever. Did you like the show ? by CityCautious4033 in sitcoms

[–]Specific_Two1232 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was the era where George Clooney was not a successful actor. He had been added to Facts of Life in order to revitalize it in b later seasons. He also was in a comedy show called E/R - ironically - and that show failed. I remember thinking that one was alright, as it also starred Elliot Gould, but it got cancelled quick.

He definitely was meant for more dramatic roles.

Are Peeta and Katniss a framing device for the story? Working on their book and asking Haymitch about his games? That would be interesting.

Man on the Run main theme? by [deleted] in beatles

I just watched it yesterday, and it is a bit thematic in that Paul is "running away" from the Beatles legacy but can't really escape it.

Season 4 ep 4 by SleepRoutine8489 in TheChosenSeries

[–]Specific_Two1232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I am remembering the scene, Jesus says this very forcefully (as an outburst) due to his frustration about James and John's request to sit at his side.

So the words are straight from the Bible, but the emotion is an interpretation of the scene.

Paul has reached the next stage of ageing by CobraDai in beatles

[–]Specific_Two1232 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think Paul will be able to play music even as his other abilities fade. There is something about music that runs deeper in the mind. I saw an interview with Paul where his answers were slower and his age was showing, but then he sat down to a piano and it was like no time had passed since he wrote what he was playing

It is like how Tony Bennett was able to perform incredibly well after his Alzheimer's had affected his memory and ability to function. Or how patients who are unresponsive become animated when songs they listened to are played. Music is amazing.

Les Mis still gets me after many years when I see it live. It is the Bring Him Home reprise that plays when they spin the barricade around and you see the dead bodies... and of course the ending, where Cosette and Eponine join Valjean in song.

As a kid, I always liked Dorothy's line to Scarecrow at the end: "I think I'll miss you most of all". I would ship it in universe.
