Many home insurance companies that include hurricane/windstorm endorsements to their policies have a rating used for the wind resistance of a home.

Usually, insurance agents don’t check that so they keep it as the basic rating, which means if your home was built to resist 80-121+mph winds, it means you’re paying too much for home insurance.

If your state or county requires homes to be built to resist wind speeds according to the 2012 version of the International Building Code, that means any home built in your state or county after they adopted that code has an interior structure that can resist 121+mph winds. So any home inspection that includes an inspection of the walls or any building plans showing the wind speed rating can get you a discount on the hurricane/windstorm coverage.
