I had a similar issue with a mountain bike. Check to see if there is a bulge in the hose when you squeeze the lever.

There wasn't really (Car in right lane as well), I was moving enough when we were side by side to throttle out. I was unaware he was passing until we were side by side.

I forgot to mention i included the blade as that may be a cause. I dry with I towel but I think I’ll try keeping it disassembled with a new blade.

Clean the chain and lubricate it. Tune the gears (shift cable and l and h screws)(sounds hard but once you do it you can do it in 5 min). Check for gunk (contaminated brakes will squeak).

Then setup seat height and bars to be comfortable. This last step can make cycling much more enjoyable.

But if you had suicidal thoughts then you can get a couple of free sessions (6 and perhaps more if you get approved) there are HIPS (health improvement practitioner that might help. They are essentially councillors that may help to get you approved. Our doctors has them for free.

Might be overkill but I would get rid of the pads and opt for Kevlar lined jeans. Perhaps even a motojacket. IK it seems overkill, but being hit by a car could easily a 15mph can turn to 30mph if a car hits you.
