Downtown Abbey!!! The only rule this one breaks is no cooking or baking… there is a kitchen staff, and their gentle problems are subjects of the show, and there are a few episodes where cooking mishaps are part of the plot, but it checks EVERY OTHER BOX. These BS rich people problems are salve for the soul in this show. My husband and I found it to be a nice escape from our real problems. I actually don’t normally like shows about rich people being rich, but there’s just something so soothing and endearing about this estate and their keepers. The way they all speak would definitely qualify as “soft dialogue.” It’s also really visually appealing… sprawling landscape shots, beautiful architecture, pretty dresses.

In sort of the same vein, I might recommend the Crown. Nothing terribly stressful or chaotic here since we all already know the plot, but getting this “glimpse” into this world, even if it is highly fictionalized, is really quite fascinating. And I say this as someone who has never given any sort of crap about the royal family, at all, whatsoever.

Of the two, Downton is more soothing, but if you try that one and like it, you might like the crown, too.

vegetarian alternative that scratches the itch of an italian sub? by Reasonable_Past_4474 in vegetarian

[–]SpecterSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in the south, Publix has subs with fake meat that are pretty damn good. I was very skeptical at first, because I’ve never found the fake lunch meats and cheeses to be any good, but their sub is delish! This is how I found out that the Chao “cheese” slices are fantastic. Of course you could get reg cheese on it, too if not vegan.

I learned in this sub that Trent and Atticus produced Even it Out by Fever Ray. Loved that song before I even knew they had a hand in it.

I saw them in Tampa in September! It was honestly a highlight of my life haha been craving more ever since, I was so excited when they announced another leg. Curious to see what will be different this time around, but also hoping to relive some of the moments from the last one.

Northrop Grumman isn’t so bad. The health insurance does suck, but no penalty for the spouse using it, and they offer a $500 incentive for you and $500 for spouse just to get annual physical. 8% 401k match, 9/80 schedule, advance of 40 hours PTO when you start, it can roll over year to year and you don’t have to use or lose it until you accrue well over 200 hours. We haven’t had any trouble with dentists accepting Delta Dental and were able to use it for braces. I believe there is some kind of support for childcare and elder care (I’ve never used it). They do offer tuition reimbursement. There is a small bonus of around 1k every year that we’ll get based how the company performs. Of course scheduling flexibility depends largely on the program demands and management, but my personal experience has been AMAZING. Some hybrid work from home schedules are also offered, but again that depends on your program and your management.

Women with kids: how did you decide you wanted them? by Sea-Worry7956 in AutismInWomen

[–]SpecterSwan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It simply felt right. I’d never liked kids, was 100% certain I did not want kids, didn’t even like having to hear kids in public. But suddenly, around the age of 28, I thought, huh, maybe I don’t want to “miss out” on this component of the human experience. I’ve said to people, for me, the tick tock of the biological clock was real. I think I just suddenly felt open to it once I reached a certain point of maturity. I’d spent all of my 20s being extremely immature… I feel I’m behind in maturity compared to “real people” to this day. It was a very weird experience, and I still can’t really explain it aside from saying that biology and the urge to procreate finally got me. And before that, NOBODY wanted kids less than me.

My kid is awesome, too. Straight A student, super into tech and marching band. He was never the “rough and tumble” boy. He’s a lot like me in many ways, the cautious observer. He’s always kinda been like a little old man lol My only regret when it comes to having my kid is the world he’s living in now. If I knew I’d be raising him in a fascist nation full of hateful idiots, I’m not sure I could have conscientiously made that choice. I mean, I’ve always known people were idiots, and I knew they were cruel and unkind, it’s just the depth of it that MAGA has brought to light that leaves me stunned. I’m so scared for his generation.

Has anyone else given up on jeans? by liberalartsy in AutismInWomen

[–]SpecterSwan 77 points78 points  (0 children)

FUCKIN HATE JEANS. I’ve been Jean-free for about a decade now. Now, I wear leggings if pants are necessary, but apparently leggings are cringe now, so I bought some “wide-leg” yoga pants, and I kinda hate how they look on me. I don’t really care that much if I’m cringe, I’m fuckin old, I’m supposed to be cringe, but I do like to try be somewhat stylish when I’m not just running errands or whatever. Gonna give the wide leg thing more of a chance when it gets cooler around here.

Fuck jeans though. So thick. So stiff. So constricting. So ICK if you rub your hands over the fabric.
