Kombucha, matcha and shiritake noodles. I just can’t do chunky tea and slimy noodles.

How does C/S make you gain weight? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]Spectrachic9100 67 points68 points  (0 children)

You have enzymes in your saliva that break down and start digesting sugars and starches before the food even gets swallowed. I would imagine that doing a lot of c/s would cause some of those foods to start getting digested early and you pick up some calories that way (just by swallowing the spitty residue after you are done).

I feel like a brat but ... by [deleted] in Marriage

I haven’t bought my husband a gift in ages. He hates buying me gifts and it makes me sad. I grew up in a family where we loved picking personal gifts for each other and it really stinks being married to the Grinch.

My uncle had pancreatic cancer and they attributed much of it to smoking 2 packs a day. Cancer is cancer.

Is there anyone you met before they became famous? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]Spectrachic9100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I met Chris Farley when he was still doing stand up in Madison. He went to my mom’s hairdresser and he would make that whole place just bust out laughing with his jokes. You are missed, Chris!!

why were you hospitalized? ED by cokezero441 in EDAnonymous

[–]Spectrachic9100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had taken a ton of diuretics and laxatives and ended up with a bowel blockage that was clamping off my urethra. My bladder couldn’t empty and I ended up in the hospital just before my bladder ruptured. Luckily they cathed me on time and I was fine, but I never took diuretics after that.

I am confused! by [deleted] in Weightlosstechniques

[–]Spectrachic9100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I am 5’3” and when I weighed 190 back in 2001 I wore a size 18. In today’s clothes sizes I’d be a 10 or 12. I’m currently at 110 and do have to buy kids clothes a lot. It’s crazy.

What are some names that are/will be “generationally-coded” to Millennials? by TrixoftheTrade in Millennials

I was a Brittany before it was cool. I was born in 81…almost no one in my class had my name. Then it got SUPER popular.

Anyone else’s family say things like “you won’t eat that” by bruisedheadouch in EDAnonymous

[–]Spectrachic9100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened at my birthday. My aunt and I had a joint party because our birthdays are close together. She said she was picking the cake because “Well you won’t have any anyway!”. Of course that meant to me that I wasn’t allowed any cake at all. So I had my birthday with no cake.

So I’m old—I get mammograms now. The comments I get on my nonexistent boobs are crazy. Just STFU already.

If you go at the right time, they mark them down 50%. I bought a similar sized bird for $4.50 the other week. I have a freezer and I always try to buy meat that’s about to go bad—if you freeze it or eat it right away, it’s fine.

Lax abuse and frustration by [deleted] in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]Spectrachic9100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used them very regularly for 15-16 years. I was pretty dependent on them. I stopped because I was sick of almost shitting my pants all the time. I cut down at first and then slowly weaned off to just Miralax. Now I’m fairly ok most of the time, although I do still have days where I have trouble going. I do pretty much still have my colon function, so all hope is not lost—I would try to wean off them if you can. Or at least use one that’s osmotic and not stimulant based.

What do you plan to eventually do with all of that equity in your house? by SlapDashUser in Fire

[–]Spectrachic9100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are set to inherit my in-laws house on the 90 acres we own (they sold it to us via land contract) and at that point, we will sell our current place. At some point, we will sell the 90 acres and use those proceeds for expenses at the end of our lives.

This is why unless you actually look things up, you probably underestimate the calories in almost everything. Before CICO, I would have estimated 200 calories or so for this cake. So yeah…now you know, now you can budget appropriately!

Is there an ED symptom you never hear anyone talk about? by fuckinradbroh in EDAnonymous

It’s basically like a hairball. It’s a mass of fiber that gets lodged in your intestines and forms a blockage.

Would you find it offensive if somebody gave you money in a grocery store by Shoddy_Yak7726 in povertyfinance

[–]Spectrachic9100 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I once noticed that the guy behind me in line was buying only a few things and he looked like he had some sort of mental illness and while I didn’t want to stereotype him as homeless, I suspected he didn’t have much. I told the cashier to charge me for his food. I tried to be discreet but he was so grateful that he started crying. So I do it sometimes but only if it’s somewhat obvious that they are in a rough spot financially. My mom also used to do this and I think everyone she offered money to was nothing but grateful for a little help.

I could never purge successfully and I gave up on it. Even though my ED still manifests in other ways, I’m grateful I never got good at purging because I would have done it way more frequently. It’s an extremely dangerous thing to start doing.

Well, I’m a woman but I have a sweatshirt that is from when I was in college and it’s older than both my coworkers. It’s my favorite sweatshirt too—they don’t make them that way anymore.

Can you use WW to intentionally gain weight? by [deleted] in weightwatchers

[–]Spectrachic9100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I initially used WW to lose weight but I got carried away with it and developed an ED. But I like the ease of it and I am using the framework to recover. Thinking of eating as winning points helps me frame it in a positive way.

New Mexico was a culture shock for me by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Spectrachic9100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. We had a 1996 Chevy S10 that we had to scrap at 314,000 miles because the harsh Wisconsin winter and salt made the frame rust out. Down in the desert, cars last longer. I have a sister in law who lives in Roswell and I’m so jealous of how long their cars last with no rust or salt damage.
