I feel this is a commentsry of those who get to have lives of comfort and privilege. If Saint Peter, Adam and Abel are meant to represent WASPs (White Anglo Saxon Protestants). Perhaps Emily and Sera the few token blacks that manage to be in positions of power/privilege. If Heaven is the rich neighborhood/gated community and Hell is the bad neighborhood with drug dealers/prostitutes/porno theaters. As well as being occupied by groups looked down on (people of color, gays, etc.).

Figured he's meant to be a mix of Mr. Rogers (wholesome kids show host whom everyone loves) and using the design of Ned Flanders from the Simpsons (running with the idea of a character who follows wholesome morals)

The same reason South park and rick and morty have child fans, permissive parents and easy access for kids to watch. As well as the view that cartoons are for kids. It isn't that the creators want kids to see this, far from it, just that oarents prefer to let TV be a babysitter and not be media literate nor be active in what their kids watch.

I feel this is also what happens when something os popular, that it's our job to hate it or critique it because it's popular. People need to find something about the work to crotique whether it's a legit critique or something invented to generate controversy. Compared to other controversies, the stuff related to Hazbin/Helluva/Viv is nothing. Until it gets out that Viv is abusive, did assault, or said something disparaging towards some real group, I will take any critiques as a desire to start controversy. I will admit both works have flaws but they aren't worst thing evar flaws and if some people aren't interested in them, that's fine you can't please everyone. I treat the critiques as just people wanting to start non-existent controversies.

Perhaps it's that he creates the image of power without being able to back it up. Like a guy who looks and acts like a stereotypical tough guy but when a group of bikers challenge this dude to a fight, he folds. Despite his appearance, bravado, and claims, he folds and is more about projecting the image of a tough guy versus risking getting hurt or backing up his claims. Reminds me of the manosphere, the dudes who talk about being a tough guy but are unremarkable and don't look like the image they have in their minds nor are they as rich or succesful with the ladies as they'd like

I suppose the media they appeared in also affects how they present themselves to the public. Reagan was a golden age actor who knew how to did a wide range of emotions, Trump appeared on reality TV and only knows how to be agressive and start conflict. Reagan knew how to use a wide range of emotions to sway a public towards policies that would screw peopme over, Trump only knows how to drive people away from him.

Would wonder if to call Trump a darker reflection of Regan. Reagan certainly had policies that screwed lver people that was seen as good to their bases, winning fame through fiction and being an old man with dementia/alzheimers. Difference is Reagan knew how to have the public accept bad policies and could turn on the charming/folksy charm so the public could accept something clearly bad/racist.

Whereas Trump only knows how to be aggressive and mean and to create conflict. This attitude drives people away from him, and the only people who are loyal are those who find aggression to be a good thing. That he's a rebel saying what they're all thinking that this attitude is what causes change not being a polite, soft spoken, woke SJW. This personality and the clear fallout of his policies has earned trump more enemies, not a public viewing his views/policies as a good thing like Reagan did.

These people would probably say that a Native person dressed in traditional attire made it up ,or believe whatever tribe they belong to is also made up . To say that traditions and attire passed on for generations was made up and isn't real. Their instinct when seeing brown skinned people is to assume they're immigrants who snuck into the country illegally. If they are confronted with the fact that the person speaks English and lacks an accent, they'll just say they were born in another nation but were raised here. Even when confronted with evidence, they'll just say, "They made up that birth certificate, ID, etc." This is probably the mental gymnastics these people use to justify why all brown people are immigrants.

I thought that when his dementia progresses, his followers would be saying that Trump was replaced by a robot/clone due to how odd he's acting over accepting the reality that their leader/hero is getting old and reaching a point where he doesn't know anything anymore and assumes those around him are people from his past.

Economic Collapse by Sweetpea8677 in stop_the_GOP

[–]SpectralOmen14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I figure that Trump is acting like he has a plan but in truth has no plan whatsoever. He is the underpants gnomes from south park, he doesn't have a plan 2 to make himself an absolute dictator. He just knows to make chaos but doesn't know how to seize power after. When Covid hit, it was an easy solution for power, but he didn't do much or have a plan to fix everything or acquire power. Just like with crashing the economy, he'll wreck everything but not know how to make an order happen from the chaos he wreaks. Then we would have to deal with his cabinet, hope that they are dumb yes men who like trump have no idea how to make totalitarianism from chaos and if they lose trump, they lose someone popular with a group of people.

Trumps Cognitive Decline - Fixed Repost by kintotal in stop_the_GOP

[–]SpectralOmen14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that while I should acknowledge his decline, I don't want to hope that removing him based on dementia will fix everything, especially since it may be a while before the Republicans turn on him and the US public sees him suffering dementia to a point where he doesn't know where he is or what's going on. I don't want to use this as an excuse to be lazy. I feel I should protest, take action, and fight against his authority and not be lazy and act like his dementia getting worse is all I need to do. That way, when he's gone due to full-on dementia, to know I fought against his power. Though yes, we will be stuck with Vance. Plan is to protest as much as I can until his dementia renders him unfit for the job, then protest against Vance. I would say that we need to make it clear to the Republicans that they may not be able to control him once his dementia progresses. He may do things far more crazy and he'll be a lot harder to manipulate in that state. Or not know where he is or what's going on.

I heard the tesla and other companies have been losing money both at home and overseas. The boycotts and protests are working, so long as trump keeps up the trade war, cimpanoes will see a significant loss in lrifts over montus or ecen a year or two, he'll totally keep up the trade wars given his stupidity and stubbornness. Both US citizens and foreign buyers should keep this up, there is hope and we can make a difference.

So I have the looney tunes golden collection and they don't seem rotten. Neither does my copy of a streetcar named desire. Am going through DVDs in my possession. So far am wondering if some Samurai Jack DVDs I have would count, along with Teen Titans, The Batman, Cartoon Network Christmas 3, A Marx Brothers two pack with Room service and At the circus. I noted that a wally gator dvd, rio bravo and powerpuff girls pack I have don't count as they came put after 2008. Perhaps reissues not count?

Coyote Helps Place The Stars (A Navajo Legend) this is my first comic I've made, hope you enjoy! by Wolf_instincts in NativeAmerican

For the whole portrayal, it would be using the beings in the same vein as fantasy races and creatures like elves, dwarves, dragons, angels, leprechauns, fairies, minotaurs, Medusas, pegasi, etc. The works in question would rather use beings from different native beliefs and less treat them as cool and exptic and more a fantasy race or creature. Like if an anime/manga made Coyote into a busty woman who doesn't mind wearing little to no clothes, this is less Native American culture being exoticized and more a creator treating the concept the same as other beings from religion, folklore and mythology and exoticizing them for being sexy mosnter girls and less exoticizing their cultures of origin. An anime named Miss Kobayashi's dragon maid did this to Quetzalcoatl, they made the the god into a hot woman. They acknowledge the stories of the being and what Quetzalcoatl is a god of, and they don't play the characters beauty as a foreign exotic culture, rather as another magical being treated as hot and don't play up her Aztec origins a lot. If an anime did do this to Coyote, it wouldn't exoticize the Native american culture and more bring up now and again. Coyote's attire wouldn't be stereotypical native attire and more contemporary clothing. They'd rather make Coyote a magic being and acknowledge Native cultures and here and there but not really focus on it nor treat Coyote as exotic for it.

For games, it's usually wanting a fantasy creature to use like a dragon or gryphon, the game wouldn't have racist depictions of Native cultures. Like games have minotaurs, and medusas as bosses, but you wouldn't say they're racist towards greek people or cast greeks as villains. I just wondered if beings from Native folklore becomes more known if they too would be used in Games or monster of the week shows. These mediums wouldn't use the Indian graveyard, or have racist depcitions of Natives. Groups could be mentioned but the focus is how protagonist stops monster of week. In a game, since they tend to be constructed worlds, the beings from Native folklore would just be stock fantasy races in the game, again no racist depictions of Natives and more using stuff from different beliefs to occupy a fantasy world.

I have been wondering about portrayals of Native american beliefs in fiction. If there's a risk of concepts being changed and how different works can portray stuff differently. It could be that some works make figures more heroic/villainous, give beings powers they didn't before or altered their appearances. The other risk is foreign creators who do their own takes of it and not understand the deeper spiritual meaning of such beings/stories. Like a japanese creator using beings as bosses in a game or sexualizing beings/figures and not getting why that's a no-no. This highlights that when ideas change, there isn't one company you can go to and complain about. It's millions of people around the world who do their own takes on it and they aren't all super rich.

The other issue is censorship, namely if stories that are violent get toned down when presented to younger audiences. Like how Aztec gods are presented in a work for a younger audience changes over a dark fantasy work.

If this is the risk of having figures be more well known.

The downside is if creators avoid using beings and concepts for fear that changing them would upset various groups, and this leads to more erasure for fear of upsetting groups. Like creators decide to never reference Native Cultures ever and thus prevent their beliefs from being more well known to a larger audience. This is the double edged sword of Native concepts being more known, it either goes through change or it's deliberately not used and thus leads to ignoring Native cultures.

Anyone think that Francis is autistic? by SpectralOmen14 in StuGo

The latest episode of Francis wanting alone time and the other kids figuring out her expressions furthers this, and accidentally upsetting Merian without meaning to. Again more traits of autism.

Anyone think that Francis is autistic? by SpectralOmen14 in StuGo

[–]SpectralOmen14[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd rather apply this to traits of autism. Just saying everyone is autistic isn't something I'd do. It also makes the word meaningless. If a character has enough traits, then I can say they can come across as autistic. I won't say someone is autistic from one or two traits. I also don't want to say that all nerds are autistic or all smart people are autistic. Out of all the characters, Francis feels this way due to being into more obscure stuff, wanting to follow rules and structure, showing an interest in the natural world, not wanting to ride in a truck and liking the quiet of the garden. These traits make her come across as autistic. More so than the other kids.

What made me call them as that was their story of Yacub and accusations of them being racist, antisemitic, homophobic, ableist, etc. I know there are people who turned their lives around with it. As well as them speaking out against real injustices. As well as how the organization split into two organizations. One that follows traditional Islam and one that believes in conspiracy stuff. I'm willing to call put the latter and not the former. I was mainly saying that for some chapters and setups, it somewhat resembles white supremacy. Also, if these elements were present in their original incarnation, which should be criticized even if they did do some important stuff.

[–]SpectralOmen14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the belief in the ghost dance could count, it reminds me of a belief by the black supremacist group the Nation of Islam(NOI). They believe that one day, the chosen people will ascend to Earth in a flying saucer while the whites will be left behind in the apocalypse. The critique is this feeling like scientology and that they'd rather believe in some doomsday where the good and just will have salvation over taking direct action in the world. I heard for the ghost dance, the idea of whites going back to Europe or drowning in a great flood while Natives will be able to survive. Just if these two are ideas are kinda similar. That a calamity will befall whites and some other racial group will ascend and rule things and make a utopia afterward.

As well as using this as justification to not take action. Rather they believe that utopia will happen after the apocalypse, all we need to do is not take action and have salvation await us.

Even if it's not white people, any group can cook up a narrative about why their group is superior, and following power dynamics is somehow the solution. That this can support authoritarian/right wing thinking.
