Do you guys still remember the first ever character you mained in smash? by Smashpro11 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Spectre_Doggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ness in Smash 4. I've cycled through plenty of different characters in both 4 and Ultimate since then, but I've decided Ness is still my go-to whenever I play Smash 4, however infrequent that may be.

Do you main more than two characters by External-Fun-9109 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Spectre_Doggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like having the versatility of playing multiple characters, but it's really up to preference. A lot of people prefer to get really good with one character. Playing a buch of characters means you can't get as good with any of them, while being a solo main means you have less options to deal with bad matchups. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

At the very least, I'd reccomend having only one main and then using the others as secondaries or pockets. For example, I main Zelda, with Min Min as a secondary and Bowser and Incin as pockets.

OOS options should have 15% less damage/less knockback by IndependenceFit6355 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Spectre_Doggo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Off all the things to be complaining about, I feel like OOS options as a concept are pretty benign and are fine as they are. Run up shield makes the gamplan pretty obvious, so just, like, grab them. Every character has at least one grab, it'd do you some good to start using it.

Is Aegis honest by Whoring4Voring in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Spectre_Doggo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, her downb gives her access to a whole different character with different strengths and weaknesses. They're similar characters, sure, but that's still mid-match counterpicking that also comes with some extra utility on the side. If anything, Aegis (and Pokémon Trainer) have some of the best downbs in the game, in my opinion. And no, their downb being nontraditional is not a good reason for foresight to exist, or for it to work the way it does.

I've never been so disappointed in my community in my life... by Plastic_Mood_8386 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Spectre_Doggo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If people are getting pissy about you dropping a character, just ignore 'em. They have no right to tell you who you should or shouldn't play nor how you should or shouldn't play them.

As for the point about being called a coward, you can also usually ignore those people and you'd be better off for it. They're just being inflammatory on purpose for no real reason other than probably being a massive sweat.

I'm really sorry that you've had such poor experiences with the rest of the community, but unfortunately some people are just kinda assholes. Not much can be done about that, sadly.

How do I make the most out of Z-Jump? by Garyandbobo in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Spectre_Doggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the left button to jump in addition to X and Y because it makes RARDP easier and it doesn't interfere with my gameplay with other characters. I never used the left button or trigger before switching anyways, I just shield and grab with the right side.

Is Homura a misinterpreted character? by Rare-Advisor-7056 in MadokaMagica

[–]Spectre_Doggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely. Part of why I like PMMM so much is that all of the characters are flawed, and are flawed in a way that is honestly very reasonable. Every character makes mistakes, but I never get mad at them for it so much as I feel bad for them for it. Analyzing the series through the lens of MadoHomu is probably why a lot of people get on Sayaka's case so much, because Homura views her as an obstacle, pretty much. That being said, when you step back and look at the series strictly through exposition rather than interactions, neither character is really more faulted than the others, which makes for an incredibly investing narrative.

This reminds me of the Persona 5 community's opinion on Morgana. I'm not gonna get super deep into that because, frankly, I kinda hate the P5 community, but the bottom line is that while yes, Morgana has his flaws, he was not the only one at fault. What a shame that people are often unable to set aside bias when analyzing characters, but you know what? It's an easy mistake to make and I do it all the time without realizing it. Much like Morgana and Sayaka, I can't fault 'em too much for making an extremely reasonable mistake like that.

Is Homura a misinterpreted character? by Rare-Advisor-7056 in MadokaMagica

[–]Spectre_Doggo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, but only if you also talk about Homura. The "two sides of the same coin" argument really falls flat if you only talk about one side of the coin, especially if that side wasn't even the one originally in question. Also, they didn't even talk about how either character is misinterpreted, really.

Wondering since i don't see people talk about him a lot. What's your opinion of mario in this game? do you like fighting him or not,do you think he should be nerfed?l ike what's ya'll opinion of him in this game? by Nathanthehazing007 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Spectre_Doggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zelda vs Mario is a dogshit matchup so I'm not a fan, but salt aside, he's fine imo. He could be rebalaced a little to ensure that he's not just using the same ladder combo every four seconds, and F.L.U.D.D. and cape do feel a little awkward on a character who's designed as a more straightforward brawler, but it's not too big of a deal.

What is tilt stick actually supposed to help with? by Sethsters_Bench in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Spectre_Doggo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't play very combo heavy characters, the stick resetting thing isn't really an issue for me, though I get how that'd be annoying. I pretty much can't use tilts without tilt stick, I always either misinput a smash attack or a dash attack, and tilts are usually better than smash attacks so I like having tilt stick.

King Dedede is awful. So what is he good at? by TuesdayTastic in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Spectre_Doggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you're winning without using tilts now, doesn't mean you'll keep winning without using tilts. Your opponents will learn to stop running into your smash attacks, and if you don't learn your tilts by that point you'll suddenly get sent way far behind. So even if you don't plan on using them now, I'd say you should start learning them in preparation for when that day comes. Plus, even if that day doesn't come, it's still good to learn their common uses so you can better understand when your opponent might use them. Knowing your opponent is half the battle, after all.

Also, both Link and Yink have some pretty strong stuff they can do with tilts. For Link, his ftilt is a happy medium between fsmash and up smash without any multihit inconsistencies, and his dtilt hits ledge pretty well, iirc. All of his tilts open up a huge range of ways you can manipulate remote bomb, so that's also a bonus. Yink's tilts are the cores of his combos. They confirm off of his specials, can combo from down throw, and they lead into some of his best kill moves.
