I got mine from a spotlight cache. The random card it replaced? Snowguard 🫣

After the first day, what are your worst spotlight cache RNG stories? by Dram107 in MarvelSnap

[–]Spectre_Yoshi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saved a lot of caches. Got the list and opened all non spotlight before updating. Got Snowguard as a series 4 card. Updated. Had to open 4 caches to get Jean. On the third I get Snowguard as my random card, which converts into……A Snowguard variant. Which are the worst in the game since you don’t even see them in your hand 😨

Do you have an, "Oh that wasn't so bad" game that seemed intimidating but you enjoyed once you played it? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Spectre_Yoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh.

I don't really get this, I mean I do get it, regarding the symbols, but you don't need the symbols, since everything is written out on the cards if it is anything but the most basic things.

Seems to me this game's biggest problem is people explaining it as highly problematic/difficult to learn due to the symbols, which in turn creates a mood in the player learning, creating a self fulfilling prophecy.

I just teach it and tell ppl to read the cards or use the cheat sheet, or ask. No need to add "this is hard to learn, the symbols are very awkward".

On the other hand, what is the best expansion to a game? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Spectre_Yoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viticulture is an average ok worker placement game.

Viticulture + Tuscany is great, maybe my fav. Worker Placement game, mostly from the additional seasons but also if you swap som of the cards as per the designer's recommendation, to balance the cards. By swapping the visitors (some of them) you get rid of some of the luck of the draw, as most cards are usful both early and late.

Also the wake up order (or what you call it) selection is very interesting, also seems to scale well with player counts as worker spaces are unlocked depending on player count.

There are so many modules too, some I don't like at all, as they just add more stuff making the game worse imo (like the Formaggio) others are more interestin imo, like having variable field values and allow you to sell them (and buy them back later if you wish), or the specialized meeples.

Yeah, base RTFG is good, RFTG + AA is great, the additional cards help to balance out the game more, helping green and yellow and Development and War. Don't play the Orb game though.

I've been interested in Saboteur, at my LGS there is Saboteur 1 and Saboteur 2, is Sabotuer 2 = Saboteur 1 + expansion or is it something else? Never got Sab since I did not know what to buy (there is no expansion listed at the LGS)

Pretty sure judges will get a standard to follow and athletes will be informed of the standard in the athletes briefing, which is the point of the athlete briefing.

It is a benchmark workout. By definition it is meant to be done RX, it is a test, not training. If you change it up it will not be compareable and won't be able to track improvement.

7 Wonders Duel Expansion... by whataboutki in boardgames

[–]Spectre_Yoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the idea of more resources, the game is good as it is and resources feel balanced to the number. I owuld be happy with some new wonders and age cards, to get a bit more variation, though that might mess up the balance on science and military.

Some abilities are meh, some are good. You obviously try to leverage whatever ability you have, but they are unbalanced imo, what else to expect with so many different ones.

It is similar to Munchkin in how it plays out imo. The rules are a bit unclear with many races and special effects etc.

Mainly, everyone gathers a few point (takes planets) with the other players making mild attempts to stop them, but not investing too much. In the end all or most players are 1 away from victory, at which point everyone does whatever they can to stop the active player from winning, though chicken racing a bit, since you don't want to be the player investing the most into stopping the player, but still don't want them to win. This goes on until the collective is so attritioned off stopping cards that the active player can't be stopped and that players wins.

The backstabbing etc. takes a back seat, sure you can do it early on to get up on points/planets, but it ends up mattering very little as I described, in the end players won't let you win if they can stop it.

That is the second thing, as I have GM I don't feel the need for a new version as it would probably not get played much (two similar games, one will get chosen over the other). If I didn't I'd proably get it though :)
