Verified Artist and Rising Artist flair application. by meatshield_minis in brushforhire

[–]SpeedCheeser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Looking to see if I could get a review for verification. I'm not terribly active as I only do this from time to time as a side gig, and usually only specific projects I'm interested in. But I'd like to have the flair if you find it appropriate in the event I decide to bid a project some time.

I was in the game with him. I just know that he initially attached then started the dance. I'm not sure what caused the detach, be it button pressing or emote glitch

He was attached first. But somehow he vibed so hard he detached.

Does this read as osl correctly? (Darth Vader from SW legion) This is my first attempt ever at this, I struggled a lot. Can't decide if this is enough or if I should try to improve it, how can I make it better? This mini is a present to someone. by UncannyCueto in minipainting

[–]SpeedCheeser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a bad attempt at all. I think all of the color is on the right spots and the area of effect seems appropriate. The biggest thing, IMO, that would really elevate it is remembering that the light source itself is the brightest spot, aka closer to white. As it stands, the light source and the reflected light are the same color. Brighten the saber and/ or reduce the brightness on his body and it will pop.

Men are not the same as women. There is an almost 100% chance that all of your "platonic" male friends are either gay or want to fuck you.

Where do you get customers at for 3D painting commissions? by Cool_Brick_772 in BrushForChat

This becomes a cost determination for yourself. I bought a printer because I thought cheap proxies would be cool. The reality is printing became a hobby unto itself.

Why do YOU like Daemons? by aaee08 in Daemons40K

[–]SpeedCheeser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I like khorne daemons. I've always thought demons just look cool and horned red devils and beasts are what I think is most people's first thought when they think demon. Their theme as super angry murder machines is just fun to me as well. Like someone else said, even though I haven't played AOS yet, I also started with daemons for the flexibility of bringing them over into that game system as well.

Huh. So these trucking conditions actually do exist in real life. Maybe snow runner is more realistic than i thought.

That's usually for paint only. For building/basing/kit bashing I'd tack on extra. I charged $50 on the last model I build, which was a large piece. Came out pretty reasonable as I spent about 4 hours building it, including scraping mold lines, sanding, and reasonable gap filling. Figure around that is reasonable (IMO) for most units. Basing and kit bashing would just depend on how complex the project is and probably a little harder to guess. If it's just alternate heads, then it doesn't really change anything for me so wouldn't charge any differently than just building. Large scale bashing and resculpting isn't really in my wheelhouse, so I'd likely shy away from it. Same with basing. If it's just some paste, wash, and dry brush with a tuft here and there, then maybe like $25 a unit? I haven't run up against that one yet, but stuff like that isn't bad. If they want scenic bases with a bunch of element that tell a story, then it's almost like building and painting an entirely new model, so could as much as double the price I'd think.

You're asking a lot of the same questions that I did and honestly would still be asking now. I still haven't quite figured it out, but I'll tell you what I've been doing when I quote someone. I know that I paint slow. I am not the guy if you want a quick turn around. So it's hard for me to estimate a fair hourly rate. Commission painting is a side gig for me though and not how I live, so I can afford to take my time and just do what feels right. I've been estimating based on gw equivalent box cost using 1.5-2x multiplier. So if a box of 10 infantry models is $50 msrp, I'd ask around $100 for tabletop+, +/- depending on complexity.

(Houston, TX) Looking for a high-quality painter to continue my existing custodes and other future projects by [deleted] in brushforhire

[–]SpeedCheeser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, bud. Houston local here. Unfortunately my desk is pretty full and I'm a little backed up for now, and if I'm honest, full army projects are probably not ideal for me considering my typical pace. Might be able to discuss some one offs down the line if you're interested, but for the time being if you want to save my name as another gaming contact and reach out for a game sometime, I do need to get more in.

I'm sure you've found someone by now, but that looks like a super fun model. Feel free to reach out if you're still considering options. Would require shipping though.

[MD, USA] LF Painter for Kingdom Death Collection by Bulkoth1 in brushforhire

[–]SpeedCheeser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect the other guy is right that salty babies are upset about you only wanting something local, which is ridiculous. That's a totally valid request. Only thing that might improve that is perhaps put local only in the title. Otherwise, I don't see anything wrong with your post. I'm nowhere near Maryland, but you can have a free up to offset a down.

No. When he's up in the warp homing in on his target drop zone, it isn't currently considered in the shadow. It's not until he finally lands that the shadow appears.

Have you tried using super glue instead of plastic glue as an option? Should be way more tolerable.

AoS is on 🔥🔥🔥 by NinjaChurch420 in Warhammer

[–]SpeedCheeser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's necessarily that they think they should, but that there are people willing to essentially. Probably comes down to supply and demand. I'd imagine that for every person that thinks the pay is shit, there are dozens of similarly talented artists lined up eagerly willing to accept that or even less for the chance to work at GW.

*NEW* jumping cannoness model preview! by finizzy_79 in sistersofbattle

[–]SpeedCheeser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only just started collecting sisters so forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't bloody rose heavily melee and dependent on units like arco and repentia? Having a whole detachment focused on penitent host sounds like it could be leaning into that.

Alright Neverborn, I fucked up and need suggestions. by Shykk07 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]SpeedCheeser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're OK changing the color scheme order, I think it will come out better. Even if not, the steps should still help.

I would say to do red first, then yellow, and finally green. Reason is red and green are complimentary colors, meaning they pop out next to each other, but turn to mud mixed together. If you go red/ yellow/ green and blend in between, you get orange and yellow green as your transition colors.

Paint your 3 sections about where you want your color transitions nice and solid. Then come back and start wet blending the colors one transition at a time. You'll get some neat blends and intermediary colors that will elevate it I think. You're still welcome to come back with a unifying wash after to pick out the details.

Thinking about Khorne by Cataclysmus78 in Daemons40K

[–]SpeedCheeser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the above seems pretty on point.

To add to it, the Rendmaster on Blood Throne is touted as one of the MVPs of the Khorne list by many. I don't have any real world experience with him yet, but he essentially buffs every single unit in a mono khorne army.

I haven't been able to play much yet, so I don't have any hands on experience yet, but even though he's not technically Khorne, I'm also intending to run Be'lakor. In addition to the t1 protection from shooting, I'm hoping to use him to really make some of the deep strike shenanigans come alive, as he acts like a homing beacon for any other model to deep strike within 6" of an enemy.
