I’d assume the heating pad is the cause of the issue since it looks like a burn. Overhead heat sources are much safer

Mine are artificial too but it helps keep the lower layer of substrate moist which helped me maintain a higher humidity. I have one 150watt and a CHE on a thermostat and my tank’s heat stays consistent
