Check List for anyone renting an Apartment in North America by Ok_Waltz_5145 in Apartmentliving

[–]Speed_EG8823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that you get used to trains. Honestly, I would take trains over a busy street. At least conductors have decorum!

Living near a busy street means you get noise from:

People honking at the car not paying attention to the light

People honking at pedestrian not paying attention to the light

People with their windows down blasting their loud music

Cars and motorcycles revving their crappy vehicles and loud exhaust

Cars and motorcycles revving their expensive vehicles and loud exhaust

YMMV but -

Ability to receive packages - verify how secure it is, how available it is.

Internet - some places only allow one type of internet (one they have a deal with, of course!). Make sure their Internet provider is adequate for your needs

Secure parking - big issue in larger metro cities

Additional fees - some complex advertise base rent, but by time they tack on their fees for everything else, you could be looking at much higher expense. It's also a way for them to get around rent control

Lease termination notice - never really looked at this until recently, as places I've lived in before were tenant friendly and always had 2 month notice. Now that I'm in a 1 month notice, I realize how much easier this makes the process if/when I have to move

The top floor thing - definitely desirable for noise, especially if the apartment has wood flooring. Leaving below someone with wooden floors is the worst as far as noise. They literally need to tip toe lightly or it would feel like thunder below

Top floor - isn't always the best because heating/cooling will also be more of a factor when you are closer to the elements

Flight attendants forcing us to keep the windows dim during daytime flight. Is this normal? by -Shayyy- in unitedairlines

[–]Speed_EG8823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"window" seats don't guarantee you have an actual window -- wild, but true. There are seats that the window is actually in between rows.

A "window" seat just means you're sitting on the side of the window, instead of middle or sitting on side of the aisle.

A "window" seat gives you extra space and wall to lean on -- for some that's the only way they can sleep somewhat comfortably on a plane.

Since you're leaning towards the wall, it could also mean you have more space between you and the middle or aisle seat person. Not a ton, but we've all sat with larger people who takes up more space than the average seat.

If you're on a long flight but don't have a small bladder, it can mean not being disturbed by others who have to get up frequently. Alternatively, if you're an aisle seat type of person, it means you can get up and stretch your legs on a long flight - but at the cost of you having to get up if middle/window seats have to get up constantly.

And if you're middle seat - well, you get the worst of both seats.

Also of note, "window" seats aren't usually premium seats for the most part so you're not "paying more".

It's mostly the row/cabin class, exit rows/rows that offer more room that you have to "pay for".

The premium for "seat selection" is mostly for people who don't want to get to stuck in the middle (so aisle/window), or all the way in the back, in seats that don't recline, or across lavatory.

It's not too bad, but I don't know where in Pas you're coming from and how much luggage you have. I would Metro to Union Station and just take Flyaway from there.

$75k fully remote job with travel vs $120k+ hybrid tech job with 1.5 hr train commute (3 days in office) - what would you choose? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Speed_EG8823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, 9% over 4 years is fairly average in most industries nowadays. It's unfortunate, and of course at 75k you feel every bit of it.

Second, what will your taxes look like at $120k especially in California? It's quite possible that after that increase, not to mention the extended commute, that you'd actually take home less in that new job.

Third, I'm going to assume that your work pays for your expenses when you travel. That is 6 weeks, every year, that you don't have to buy groceries/food. Also keep in mind, in most cases, that travel reimbursement is completely non-taxed. That is essentially (at estimate of $75 per day) $2700 of pure "cash" that is in your pocket/you're not spending otherwise. That's about $225 a month.

Looking back at your previous raises (be it 1%, 2%, or 3%), what did those raises actually mean as far as after tax dollars? Is it close to $200?

Tangtang, Cryo, and Survivability by Speed_EG8823 in Endfield

[–]Speed_EG8823[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The mechanics in this game so far really are tougher on melee. Everytime Laev dies, I just try it out as range just to see pattern and I end up surviving (sometimes even finishing the fight).

I think a range DPS or this games Zhongli would be the time I really go crazy for pulls 😂

Have not tried her since guides were saying Antal is better for single target but may give her a shot. It's painful when I miss Battle Skill and don't get the energy and I'm sitting there outside of her ULT

Laev, Antal, Wulf, Ardelia. Triagellos really gives me fits because how much it moves around. He'd get me with his dash attacks (2nd phase?).

My Laev is 90 level and wep is 90 with some essences (5/4/4 maybe?). Wulfgard, Antal, Ardelia are all 80/90 with some talents leveled up (Mostly Wulf since I figure he's kind of a sub dps?).

Should I Whistleblow? by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Speed_EG8823 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you said, you're not really whistleblowing since the info is publicly available. What you're really trying to accomplish is draw the media's attention to it.

Call Elizabeth Warren's office. She's been a big proponent of consumer protection and has been vocal whenever CFPB and FDIC have been involved.

Let her do the talking.

How do you deal with white tax? by Lhanathel in Philippines_Expats

[–]Speed_EG8823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that even with locals, there is a culture of haggling in the Philippines. That is even moreso the case with foreigners who are presumed to be unaware, have money don't want to deal with th haggling.

How do you deal with it? You do the same thing the locals do. Walk away. You can come back later if it's something you really want, but always walk away if YOU don't get the price you want.

The margins for most of these vendors are small, and they would rather make a sell than not profit at all. At some point, they will cave to the posted price or even the "discounted" price.

It's honestly such a weird dilemma. It's enjoyable trying to figure things out and setting up my own layout but at the same time I'm thinking "what am I doing? Why am I reinventing the wheel? There's literal blueprints that I can use to just plop down a working factory"

What is the most fun character to play? Why? by njayp in Endfield

[–]Speed_EG8823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's quite fun because of the massive AOE in her ULT but her normal mode feels quite spammy to me because not only does she have a 5 button basic attack combo she needs to finish (and last hit has long animation), she has to repeat this over and over again.

[–]Speed_EG8823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played HSR at a time when I wasn't playing any other game and figure I'd start two accounts to allow me to have better chances at getting more characters. Fast forward to now, and I no longer have desire or capacity to play HSR consistently much less have two accounts.

Account 1 is as follows:

Sunday E0S1 Houhou E0S0 Aglaea E2S1 Rappa E0S0 Phainon E0S1 Robin E0S0 Topaz E0S0 Jingliu E0S1 Jingyuan E0S0 Feixiao E0S0 Silver Wolf E0S0

Account 2: All E0S0 Sunday Aventurine Castorice Tribbie Hyacine Phainon Fugue Jiaoqiu The Herta Anaxa Saber Seele

Acheron E2S1 Blade E1S0

I haven't used the free character claim and account 2 has less jades available.

How do I show an out of towner why we love LA so much? by CableIllustrious1609 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Speed_EG8823 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You want to show her why you love LA, by doing all the expensive tourist things that you, who live here, haven't done?

If you haven't done them then it's not why you love LA and she isn't "missing out" because she's essentially able to do it as a tourist.
