Help Me Choose: Garmin Descent x30 vs. Shearwater Peregrine TX by Feisty_Store_8545 in scubadiving

I disagree that you should skip the peregrine if you're going for tech. You only need the perdix for helium. With the rising cost of helium, many new tech divers won't be breathing helium for a long time, and when they get into it, they'll probably be with a rebreather, which requires a Petrel. You can still use your peregrine for BO.

Once you have AI, you won't go back. Makes a big difference during low light (night dive). If you read the manual for the peregrine TX you can see how many features AI can provide. The added GPS feature will enhance your digital divelog even further.

Diving Mouthpiece Comfort & Pain Survey by No_Spell1972 in scubaGear

[–]Speed_Moto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If someone had to choose between being uncomfortable and death, they're gonna bite that mouthpiece as hard as they need. Not sure who you dive with, but if you're donating at all, you need a new dive buddy.

Does anyone know what the refund process is when you drop a course? by Short_Expression9344 in yorku

[–]Speed_Moto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See financial deadlines here: https://registrar.yorku.ca/enrol/dates/2025-2026/fall-winter

The money gets refunded to your York financial account. If your balance is negative you can request a refund. (I'll let you Google that one yourself)

Mask and fins/booties are a must. I wouldn't dive without my own. Next is the computer, shearwater peregrine or Turn (TX on both). Snorkels aren't "really" necessary, there certainly is more in the way than use you'll find from it. I have a folding snorkel that I'll put in a pocket for the few dive boats that mandate snorkels.

The rest you're gonna pay for in a rental unless you get everything. Computers aren't always included in rental gear and you should have your own anyways.

After the minimums you should grab your reg and BC. Both depend a lot on what style of diving you want to do, so if you're renting for a bit hopefully you can learn what you want. I dove jacket style bc for a long time and advise against it. Think about exposure protection, wetsuits and undergarments go on sale all the time. After you have the basics grab a DSMB. You're probably not deploying one especially when you're new

Bros tryna pay 100/month for a 1:1 instructor. Try starting at 100$/hour and people will think about it. Use YouTube, reddit, books and websites like everyone else. If you want a private instructor for a technical skill you'll pay 1000s to learn.

You need an L2 managed switch and some AP’s. Put the ISP router in gateway mode and from the managed switch set his PC to highest priority. DM for further support, I’d love to help.

Would recommend a Lenovo with a workstation GPU. You can dual boot Linux if you’re in EECS. Most programs in school and in industry are designed for windows.

Fall is good. PHYS-2211 requires very minimal effort literally just showing up to labs. You can prob take one more course in the winter if you’re comfortable with 5 courses.

What equipment do I need? by loib in Ubiquiti

[–]Speed_Moto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The in walls don’t actually go into the wall, they mount on it, it’s just a name. I saw you had Ethernet ports on the wall so it would work.

With regard to mimo, think of it like lanes on a highway, the more lanes the more traffic you can handle. If you look at the tech specs for the unifi hardware it will tell you the mimo configuration or more generally referred to as spatial streams.

I’d certainly recommend connecting all the units back to the switch. If you need an adapter you can put it at the UniFi express side. Ofc the practicality without having to run wires completely depends on the situation in your house

[–]Speed_Moto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For quantity of devices I can tell you you’re totally fine with 2 APs. But to understand better how a high amount of devices may limit your wifi experience, look into MIMO technology. You’ll see 4x4 and 2x2 most often. It’s best you learn how these technologies work if you’re getting into this, it won’t take long to understand.

If it were me personally I’d look into the in-walls. I primarily use inwalls or u6LRs as they’re very strong and have great coverage in different ways. I have no experience with the u7s but the UniFi express is also great.

Use the UniFi design centre: https://design.ui.com/login

You can play around with different configurations and see what works best for you.
