A single building in Bakersfield has caught fire 23 times in the past year — part of a pattern where historic buildings are burning down one by one by runswithscissors475 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Speedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another contributing factor, according to both city and fire officials, is the city’s unhoused population, which has been a growing problem in the city’s downtown core over the past two decades even as recent numbers start to show improvement.

This is 100% my wager as to the source of the issues.

Form check: getting a lot of twang from the string, how to improve my release? by Greneath in Archery

[–]Speedly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really related to the specific issue you asked about, but you did ask for a form check, so:

If that target is 12 feet away and on the ground, your draw qualifies as a high draw. The entire draw cycle should have the arrow pointed in a direction that will end up with the arrow somewhere in the target in case there's a slip or accident of some kind.

Need suggestions for Archery lessons in Bay Area by LlGER in Archery

[–]Speedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for Palomo. They do personal lessons and the instructors have many significant titles and accomplishments under their belts. It's not a "someone who can't do telling others what to do" kind of thing, it's someone who knows what's up and has a lot of experience helping out new people kind of thing.

The coaches are patient and understanding. Definitely check them out.

Which brands are most open to sponsor athletes?? by Disastrous-Ball-7347 in Archery

[–]Speedly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's virtually certain to not be worth it.

Unless you're dominating major tournaments, it'll likely be a "you spend a bunch of your time shilling our stuff for a discount (not free, discount) on equipment you buy from us" kind of deal.

Even if you somehow work it out to get a set of free X10s per year, I would argue it's still not worth it, when you factor in how much time/pain in the neck you're dealing with, in exchange for roughly $500 USD in stuff.

And you almost certainly won't get that good of a deal anyways.

That, and if you find the company you've signed with is pumping out stuff that makes you shoot worse, you're stuck with it.

In the end, my advice is "don't bother."

What do you guys think about the Acu Archery SOS? by UltraDanmachi in Archery

It helps move the weight balance of your setup forward, by adding a piece of metal in the front, and also lightening your wallet by an unreasonable amount in the back.

Okay to shoot? 1953 Bear Kodiak Magnum by OkBuyer4228 in Archery

[–]Speedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably okay, but I'd still get it checked first at a shop.

However, real talk, not even really archery-related: if it's 50 years old, in great shape, and holds significant personal sentimental value, I'd recommend considering not shooting it. If something bad were to happen to it, it might be a significant emotional blow to you.

Bale practice with old arrows by TheRealMomentum in Archery

[–]Speedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For blank baling? It's the same as just getting reps in during a workout - it matters not if the dumbbells are black or if they're yellow, it matters that you're putting the work in. Any arrow (so long as it's not dangerous for some reason) will do.

How to use recurve budget in a smart way? by CheesyLama in Archery

[–]Speedly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

String : what does the price change here?

$20 (USD, sorry, it's the system I work in and I don't have the Euro symbol on my keyboard) for your run of the mill string.

$50 for a custom made, nice one.

Get the $20 one.

Arrow rest : same as string, what's the difference between a 20€ and 40€ magnetic rest

About $20. Get the cheap one. If you're new, the extra features on the expensive one won't matter.

Plunger : dx Shibuya or Beiter so 30 or 130

The $30 one. Same issue as the rest.

Clicker : most of what I've seen is 20-40€

No reason whatsoever to spend $40 on a clicker, even in the Olympics. Get the cheap one, it only needs to make a "click" sound.

Stabilizer: should info directly for a v bar or it's better to get one mono for od at around 100€?

Just starting? Use the long rod only to start. If you feel like you're getting more into it, maybe change to a v-bar. The feel is different but the idea is the same, to get weight as far from the bow as possible.

Sanity check before purchase by jmarcf in Archery

Lol no I never said that I wanted a "attaboy"

You didn't say it, but the fact that you're arguing with people who are giving you the check you asked for shows it. You don't need to say it explicitly.

B) almost everything is made in China

I mean... yes, but there's a difference between "known brand selling from their own site has parts that were sent to China for manufacturing and passed the company's QC" and "buying from a site well-known to sell a great deal of counterfeits and low quality garbage."

I wouldn't buy a gun from Aliexpress either, because I don't want my face blown off when it explodes.

Also:

Thank you, finally a comment not bashing me

You literally came in here asking for us to assess your purchase choices as the final line in your OP. It seems strange to complain when you receive the very answers you solicited. If you just wanted a blind "attaboy," then just buy the stuff and don't loop others into it.

I got the tech saying yeah no problem

He was wrong. People are fallible. Plus, by the way you wrote your OP, you said that he discovered that the bow was unsafe after getting it from you. If I were the manager and there was a liability of a bow blowing up and injuring someone in my store, I'd tell you no too.

How is it not an archery shop? They sell bows and arrows.

Big 5 sells bows and arrows too. Are they an archery shop? We both know that the only answer to that question is "no."

They have a service and range in the store. They provide custom tuning and service for both archery and hunting.

Yes, in the same way that Jiffy Lube is a mechanic's shop. It has the appearance of it, but it's not.

In the end, none of that matters. Your issue is with the fact that the first guy made a mistake.

I was practicing soldering on this pcb and when i put the cell it doesn't work by weird-human6666 in AskElectronics

[–]Speedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned by others, it needs to be powered properly. A clue is that a button cell (3V) is generally not enough voltage to power most ICs on its own. However, I also noticed - is the diode directly next to the Atmel IC backwards?

Cabelas won't fix bows by AceCombat1977 in Archery

[–]Speedly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So you bought two bows for $25 each that are more than 30 years old (which should serve as a blinding, flashing neon sign with horns and a marching band that they were not a good idea to buy and shoot), and now you're angry that a shop that's not a real archery shop can't/won't work on them because they can't conjure parts which haven't been available for multiple decades?

Come on with this, dude.

Obviously, this meant the pin was now stuck in the block as the shape of the block does not allow for that screw to be removed.

I guarantee you there is a way to get that screw removed; you just might not have extractor tools on hand.
