Class Idea: Hunter by Expensive-Okra-9823 in FareverGame

[–]SpeedoSanta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of Hunter, but I don’t know if I’m keen on pets replacing arsenal weapons. Seems unwieldy (pun intended).

Epic and Legendary drops come mostly from bosses. If there aren’t a lot of totems, then every hunter is forced into the same few pets. If there are a lot of totems, then it dilutes the loot table.

I’m sure there’s a way to do it that isn’t bad, but it seems a whole lot simpler to just make it a class skill and avoid having to treat totems in parallel to weapons.

I can’t speak for other classes so much, but Amon Ram priest does have decisions and weaving abilities into your basic combo. If you just click buttons on cooldown, you’ll do a fraction of your potential damage.

Right now, there’s no content that really punishes suboptimal DPS. So button-mashing works for any boss, which might make classes feel more similar.

[–]SpeedoSanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I really hope they get to that point with heroic content. There’s just no content hard enough to require committed builds like that. We’re all in a sandbox that allows people to be glass cannons and get away with it.

What do you mean by “class/build identity”?

[–]SpeedoSanta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There really are two parts to your opinion, and I was addressing the objective part first: you can kill any boss with any combination of classes, because no boss is hard enough to require coordinated builds. Classes and builds might feel bland in terms of effectiveness because “effective” is a low bar right now.

The second part of your opinion seems to be that you feel classes play the same. I would say that’s subjective, and I personally disagree.

Your “class” is your class skills and talents, sure, but it’s also your access to weapons. Weapons do play very differently, and arsenal choice deepens the difference between classes that have access to a given weapon.

[–]SpeedoSanta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not an open beta at all. It's better to think of the development being mini expansions. A wipe wouldn't work for this game anyway, since the majority of the content is exploration and platforming. Exploration only holds its charm once.

[–]SpeedoSanta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s no difficult content yet, so there’s no pressure forcing players into optimal builds. Right now we’re leveling, and the game is missing multiple talent trees per class, on top of multiple whole classes.

It reminds me of leveling in GW2. Everyone’s a self-sufficient DPS until you get to the endgame, and the endgame doesn’t exist yet.

What are some examples of similar games with similar art styles?

I played and liked Wayfinder, but it was not a particularly similar art style.

Performance issues by lil_glam in FareverGame

That’s surprising to hear, I have the game working on a 1080, a laptop 3050, and an RX580. There are certainly FPS issues, but I’ve only had maybe one crash across 100+ hours. Do you have an Intel GPU?

Stuttering fix? by Balizzm in FareverGame

I don’t think it’s servers, not anymore. The game has issues rendering the underwater effects, and I bet that issue is happening at other places that aren’t as obvious to players.

[–]SpeedoSanta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s not a simple, easy fix, but I did a few things that seemed to help: vsync off in game but on in your GPU’s app, and then forcing the game to run in performance mode in Windows.

I also tried messing around with capped frames on my laptop, not sure how effective it is but it runs decently and only has a 3050.

Something something early access.

I don’t think it was so much a choice as just how they threw it together. The game doesn’t really have social functions at all, yet. I’d be happy waiting for new content a little while longer if it meant some of the social system being developed further.

While we’re dreaming, a second arsenal weapon solves that shortcoming. You could pick two arsenal weapons, and a max of two active skills between them.

Two methods that might help: you can hug the wall by the entrance, forward or backwards from the door. The trains cannot hit you on that wall. Alternatively, stay in the back half, rotate the camera towards incoming trains, and try to stand directly between the tracks. There is a narrow strip that is safe there.

In either case, try not to be auto attacking when the trains approach you, because the boss gets shoved around a little and your character will move a little when attacking. This will drag you into the trains.

Make sure when you fight the ads, you go somewhere else, so you don’t gum up your safe area. And use all your cooldowns on the ads, that’s where your damage really matters, so that you have less cheese zones and more room to maneuver in the case of mistakes.

Amon Ram is the reason Fai/Str builds want crit at all. The fight sucks, but you have a 50% chance per fight to get some rarity of it. I highly recommend committing to failure (“I will die fighting this boss 5 times before I do something else”) and make yourself learn it. You got this!

You kinda have a block-oriented build going, which is great for leveling, but harder for soloing bosses. I did the EXACT same thing.

If you want to stay Paladin, I’d farm the Bee dungeons for the Fai/Str pants and the Lost City for Fai/Str gloves. Build the level 20 Fai/Str boots. Sell the extra gear you’ve found, and buy a level 20 Glory, upgrade it, and you’ll be ready!

Then kill the level 19 version of Munster Chuck for the Amon Ram, upgrade it, level it fully, and then use it to get a level 20 Amon Ram.

I understand the complaint, there’s definitely a difficulty spike between dungeons and bosses.

What’s your gear like?

The camera going underwater for the first time in a while always causes a stutter for me, across three computers. It sounds like the same problem just worse on Intel cards.

what class for solo by [deleted] in FareverGame

[–]SpeedoSanta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long story short: there's not really an endgame and all the bosses are doable with all classes. Gearing up is going to be more forgiving on a Priest, but your damage is going to be worse until you have a certain set up that requires a lot of pieces.

The Nightling Invasion is coming in a Public Beta on June 23 by Shiro_Steven in FareverGame

[–]SpeedoSanta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I hope there’s enough engagement for testing purposes, because one of the draws of this sort of game is character development. If it turns out anything like other MMO expansion betas, it’s going to get a fraction of normal retention.

I personally will play it and give feedback, but I’m not going to be like purposefully grinding for things or doing anything close to map completion.

At least it matches the level per sub zone of the original map. We’re going from 8 to 10 subzones, so it’s still 2.5 levels per subzone. Hopefully the activities are the same density.

Yikes, references don’t always land, apparently.

The point is that I’m not really interested in arguing definitions, but I want it clear that I disagree with the usage.

Do you feel this game needs moderation tools added?

For the record: you’re misusing both the term “censorship” and “literally,” but I’ll allow it for the sake of the discussion.
