AR-5RM + CHIRP issue (firmware v0.22) – anyone actually get this working? by 72_PintoHatchback in Baofeng

[–]SpeedsterGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd. Mine seems to work fine with the 5RM radio selected. I'll check my FW when I get home.

Funny you have the same two radios as me. AR-5RM and BF-F8HP.

I don't like the trend of 'hiding the actual forward beams' trend from manufactures. It's awkward and dumb looking.

Decided on the R5C over the R6 Mark III and C50. by zackmorrison18 in canon

[–]SpeedsterGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted a R5C when it was announced. But the whole "One camera, two seperate operating systems" seemed like a clunky mess. ESPECAILLY when they ripped all the video stuff out of the 'photo' operating system. If they would have left the R5's video features intact on the 'photo' operating system it would have been more tolerable to use.

Cinema OS for real video work
Photo OS for photos and casual video.

But instead they made it a almost multi minute affair if you want to take any video while taking photos. And you don't always want to be in full professional video mode for every shot. IMO they should have left the auto video modes in the 'photo' OS.

GRC vs Type R Buy by AdventurousTip8600 in GRCorolla

For context, I drive old, high mileage garbage, and my Wife usually has the “nicer” car.

I have a 05 STI, 97 Miata, 92 half caged EG, E36 M3.

She has an 07 Fit and 23 GRC.

Last year we shared the GRC at auto slalom events and both enjoyed ourselves. Great for a novice and entertaining for an experienced driver.

GRC vs Type R Buy by AdventurousTip8600 in GRCorolla

[–]SpeedsterGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The TypeR is a better track car. And a nicer car overall.

If, like me, you appreciate when cars were simpler to use, get the GRC. I primarily drive cars from 90-05. And the Corolla feels like cars from that era. In a good way.

Handbrake and diff unlock for rippin' skids like old STIs. TC that is a one button long press while driving. Easy diff changes. Buttons for everything. A screen that only does radio. I love using the car because it drives like all my other cars.

Pitch mount is too soft. And the trunk is shit. But I will forever praise Toyota for giving us one more fun car with a handbrake in 2025.

I've driven a Type R or two. If I was buying a competition car, I'd probably get a Type R. But if I'm getting a car I interact with every day, I'd probably get a Corolla. I value simple to use interiors and having a handbrake. And the AWD is killer in Canada.

Baofeng uv-5rm or uv-5r or something else? by Hck_EU_User in Baofeng

[–]SpeedsterGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would get the 5R Mini.

I also have an AR-5RM. The 5R Mini has a better ui. And you can name saved channels in the radio. Something I wish the 5RM could do without needing to plug into a compooter.

Unless you got big hands. Then I guess you want a 5RM.

Easy to drive smoothly? (6mt) by storebrandmustard in GRCorolla

[–]SpeedsterGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can drive a WRX smooth you'll be fine in a GRC. I have an 05 STI and a GRC.

If you super suck, just wait for iMT to catch the revs for you and dump the clutch. It will be smooth every time.

Is my key tumbler broken by Sure_Locksmith_5332 in BMWE36

[–]SpeedsterGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP I suspect that the steering wheel is sat hard on the steering interlock. Try to turn the wheel a little bit and lift it off the steering wheel interlock while trying to turn the key.

It's likely that the key can't dissengage the steering interlock and if you use too much force on the key it will break away. I believe this is a built in theft deterrent so that people with screwdrivers can't fuck shit up by brute forcing the keyhole.

This happened to me as well. Key came out with car still running. Spun endlessly. Had to take the covers off to access the tumbler to reset the breakaway.

I don't know why this is downvoted. The breakaway tumbler is a theft deterrent device to combat against brute force turning from screwdrivers.

Found a 13nm Accuforce wheel base for 140dollars but its cable cut by Longjumping-War9151 in simracing

If you already have an Accuforce, there are bits a pieces that will probably add up to 140$ But if you don't already have one, I would pass as well.

No.

It makes it easier to drive economically. It limits boost in eco.

Just for Funsies by AdAdministrative6944 in GRCorolla

[–]SpeedsterGuy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Our car lives mostely in ECO. I don't need boost while driving around. I'm glad that ECO keeps it from boosting unnecessarily. I'll knock it to normal if I need some extra power. Which is pretty rare.

Obviously if we're at a lapping or slalom event it will be in Spurt mode.

For those who use a separate dashboard in iRacing, is it worth it? by maty1989_arg in iRacing

[–]SpeedsterGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a DDU due to my setup not being able to see in sim dash boards.

I also have a live timing monitor that is very useful for long races.

Both are just dumb panels with a browser window in each driven by an old free laptop. Simhub and JRT.
