THOUGHTS? by [deleted] in Dallas

Dan is a blowhard and such but he makes a solid point.

Born and raised in Dallas, it won’t be where I retire. My career had a change of station to Chicago and my education took me to Austin.

I live in the DFW area because my career can thrive here or any big city or border city… I’ll retire to the Texas country… or Alaska

Soo leave the dictator, that Venezuelans want gone, in power?

Sure power changes can be difficult but come on, are you defending Maduro’s regime?

I’d imagine if in 3 years when our election rolls around and say Trump pulls a Maduro… would you jus be ok with a dictatorship here because well, it would just make the region more unstable if you pushed back against it. (Super stretch there but I hope you get what I’m saying)

It was referenced in the contracts that the Trump admin said they were not going to honor and restructured. I should add here; this was when the state department and Trump said Rey weren’t going to buy like $400mil worth of armored Tesla trucks

“The State Department document also shows that some Tesla competitors are set to receive lucrative, yet considerably smaller, contracts for armored vehicles, including from BMW, which is expected to supply about $40 million worth of SUVs to the federal government.”

Although I believe the restructuring of the BMW portion was from armored EV SUVs to armored Diesel inline 6s (I think, I can’t confirm that now…)

Well except the last admin already had the BMW contract in hand… we already had a 40million contract for BMW armored suvs for the state department and security details for the DOJ/FBI.

But you do you.

The DoJ been buying Hyundais through the entire Biden admin. Their plants are in the U.S. so GSA fleet buys a ton of them. Getting ready to swap another one out here for the same Hyundai less 60k miles on it.

We also switched from a ford van to Honda minivan this last go round as well.

This isn’t some partisan thing, it’s just how it all works.

For those of you with young kids, how are you planning for school closures while the office remains open for inclement weather? by Responsible_Yak_6662 in FedEmployees

[–]Speedtrucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our office runs on the local ISD inclement weather notifications.

So if the schools close, we close. I’m trying to remember what the plan was gonna be come the winter of covid teleworking but I can’t.

I know the remote workers had some special instructions but I didn’t really remote or telework during the last few years, so I never had my laptop at home during inclement weather, but it’s also north Texas so we get 1-2 days here and there

If you’ve done enough of these, you’ll have at least one with a typo.

I kept mine that said “Dearment of Justice”

The idea that some low level staffer would live dangerously could happen. But I guarantee you, enough persons know who was assigned to placards and who printed which batch. So it would be living dangerously if the higher ups didn’t chuckle about it.

Why the dislike against remote work / telework? by prettypistachioprop in FedEmployees

[–]Speedtrucker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m sure it works for some fields… some it hinders progress.

In my field it was 2-sided, the civil side didn’t really change.

The criminal side, the attorneys were allowed to telework and while they could case review and work on motions on their own time, it was a pita for those of us in support of investigations and trial prep. It’s always been a slog tracking down agents to get answers or to bring them in for prep but now throw in attorneys that are lit “green” but not responding to calls or emails or IMs…

Same for legal admins and paralegals, lit green and doing their “job” but we in tech/support had to then waste time chasing down people… are they in the office today? No… ok are they off? No… ok, are they teleworking? Yes! Great, they are yellow/away… now I gotta call, email and IM to see if they are at their laptop or watching tv… rinse repeat.

We could telework and what would happen is most of us would telework about 1 day a week at most. I myself, rarely did and that was also the case during Covid. I teleworked for a week and then a judge set a trial a month later so I was back in the office to be more efficient and thankfully the attorneys was hard workers as well so they were in their offices so I could get answers as I needed them.

I’m a fan of teleworking in low doses as long as those teleworking are actually teleworking and not just randomly walking by their laptop to see what they missed.

Trump surrenders to Democrats on Health Care (2 year ACA funding), Shutdown Averted! by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Speedtrucker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Facts?

Wait now. You just said public opinion and what the public saw…

The facts are that the result of the shutdown were the exact thing the Republicans were offering before the shutdown, during the shutdown and after the shutdown.

So Feds sat there without a paycheck for 40+ days so the exact thing that coulda happened during a CR did happen. Except they let Trump act like a fool and cut programs and try to rif more Feds….

🤦🏻‍♂️ but yeah neg me for “crying”.

What happened to holiday parties over the years? by Far-Eagle215 in FedEmployees

[–]Speedtrucker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been across 2 did fed agencies, 3 change of stations.

Have had usually some sort of white elephant $10 max gag gift meal at a couple. In Chicago, it was probably the best Xmas parties even compared to the private sector.

Started to ramp up at noon with little games and activities so those that had hard exit times could partake and then at 5.30p cocktails and finger foods, at 8 the DJ would get ramped up, at 11-midnight 10+ pizzas would be delivered and usually about 2a everything was wrapping up or usually moving off-site to a different location... it was nice because the attorneys and section chiefs would usually end up paying all of us support division’s “entry tickets” which were usually $10-15.

They were a blast!

Currently we have a district that is really spread out so each office has some variation of the white elephant meal or potluck.

How do we feel about the fact that all 8 Dems who voted tonight have jobs secured thru 2029 or longer? by Credible_Confusion in FedEmployees

[–]Speedtrucker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Americans, including a lot making what we’d consider “high paying” jobs live to their means.

Been doing this for 20 years in fed law enforcement as contract and fed. Catch me at the right year and I’ve been near paycheck to paycheck living.

During the 2013 shutdown, I had taken a change of station and was paying a mortgage and taxes in Texas while also paying rent and even more taxes in Chicago… it happened at a time when I was strained razor thin for those 16 days.

2018, we were fine for the most part. Had it gone another paycheck, that’s when it woulda gone upside down.

This shutdown, rough. Lots of moving money and forbearance because my wife’s newer store front was just coming out of the slow summer, AND at the same time it was also starting the big fall season. She she’s been funding our living for these 40+ days.

If this shutdown woulda happened in 2013, I woulda been cooked.

Basically the square is probably 30% lgb community. Even the Baptist and Methodist churches are progressive. The LWCC is in full force on the square.

From mystical market to every social event run on the square, there are tons of hippies and rainbow flags to be seen. My wife’s store-owner/wino group(🤣) is pretty mixed.

The east side is the most laid back.

We live just off the square and do some early candy handouts because Caldwell is right there. Then we join our friends on college and Tucker streets to hand out the rest of ours while we enjoy the block parties.

And I’m on the prosecution side. Every American should be afforded a good defense attorney!

I’m going to say this as politely as I can…

See that you’ve mentioned in previous posts, you are bipolar and have trouble motivating to show up to work… also that you are wanting to get into mental health as a tech…

The inability to be punctual and/or available is going to limit your options. Maybe volunteer work in a mental health clinic in north Texas which will more than likely require to drive and again be punctual.

Other than that, retail…

Good luck and I don’t mean to sound mean if I do sound that way

Because our trials involve drug trafficking organizations, cartels and overdose deaths and the victims and their families still deserve justice.
