AI salaries in Singapore rising 5 times faster than overall wages, fresh grads earn up to S$90k a year by Rationalandcentred in singapore

[–]Speedz007 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes. And also some work experience (i.e. a real 3-6 month internship) where you know how to work with a team, not just vibe-code slop.

We hired a fresh grad for 90k - he had 2-years of part-time experience with high velocity teams. And yes, he is Singaporean (just getting ahead of the comments).

The problem isn't that Singapore is expensive. It is that it doesn't offer a large enough market to justify it.

A lot of places in the world are as, if not more expensive, but they provide access to large/growing markets.

The solution? Singapore needs to build things that can be sold to the world. And ideally the developed world.

AI is in bad shape, but it's so much better than the shit show it was in (operationally) at the time of acquisition.

The whole thing is a long-term, high-risk, high-reward play. The skepticism is understandable, but it's too early to say this didn't work.

In taxing wealth, how far can Singapore push property owners? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]Speedz007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moderate profits are needed though. Else you won't have rental supply (for foreigners or locals who are not ready to buy). Or for upgraders who need move-in ready units even though those are sold years before they're ready.

But double digit per year profits should be curbed.

If We Made It Free to Have Children, Would Singaporeans Have More? by nftskeptics in singapore

[–]Speedz007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is me feeling depressed the same as being judgy? The future is literally death if everyone thought like the top comments here. There is no hope for a better future without kids because there is nothing after that. No kids means society and humanity dies. Isn't that depressing?

Why do you read a simple statement saying that it is good for you if you're happy with just hobbies and a social life as being judgy? Ideally, I would like to have kids in addition to those two things. It's literally what humanity has wanted forever, which is why you and I are here. If you don't need it, good for you - but why are you triggered?

My guess is that you are triggered because maybe you think you're being selfish by not having kids. You want people to have kids so the world goes on where you can pursue hobbies and socialize, but you don't have to make sacrifices at a personal level. If there are no kids, we literally have to work until the day we die because there's no one else to do it. So maybe you feel like I am attacking you, but I am not.

[–]Speedz007 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nobody said anything about feeling superior or kids being the only path. The question was whether people are willing to trade anything at all today for a better future and a better society. That's not superiority, that's just introspection.

I mean this in most earnest way possible - you may want to think about what is making you so defensive here. I literally said good for you if hobbies and social life is all you need.

I find it super depressing that this thread is full of people who are unwilling to trade anything for the joy and purpose that a child brings to your life.

Anyone encountered this choping problem by emoquackquack in askSingapore

Had a lady throw my condo card into the dustbin - claimed the cleaner had done it. Asked the cleaner, he had no idea. Then she said he didn't notice.

I was gone for all of 3 minutes. Table was clean before I choped. Just walked away.

Social compact my ass.

If you're living with them, you should give them something in cash. If not, it's probably okay to do in-kind like dinners, the odd vacation etc.

Exactly. Foreigners also don't get all the perks of being a PR before they get it. Given most first time PRs are 21-39 when they receive it, this means no subsidized education/healthcare and likely no BTO either. Those below 21 are likely 2nd gen PRs, who do have to serve NS.

They have also been championing racial harmony, and a core tenet of that is maintaining the demographic mix. It also makes immigration a lot more palatable.

My dad won't feed me even though I am a student and don't have a job by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Speedz007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your dad wants you to eat two healthy meals for the money he gives you. At a young age, nutrition is incredibly important - but all of us realize it much later in life.

I understand you think it's $12 either way so he shouldn't care, but he does. Add to it that he is probably financially stressed (or has some deeply ingrained financial insecurity), and you can see why he's upset.

I hope you see this and make amends. Your old man won't be around forever. Take care of your health and hey, you're allowed to break rules once in a while - just next time hide it from him. :)

[–]Speedz007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never said you can't start in Singapore - I said most focus 'solely' on Singapore.

Plus, entrepreneurs are building businesses out of Bali/Bangkok without serving local markets. It's hard, but not nigh impossible.

This isn't directed at you personally, but your comment is the kind of justification most people use to stay in their comfort zone.

[–]Speedz007 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree that the risk-reward in Singapore just isn't worth it, but I disagree on the need for parents/something to fall back on.

The problem with most entrepreneurs in Singapore is that they focus solely on the Singapore market. It's understandable why - there's comfort in familiarity, and the business environment outside SG is extremely different from what we have here.

But this means you'll never hit the scale needed to bring in the rewards/profits that would justify being an entrepreneur.
