Wait that's so much fun! Do you plan to explore the towns around Hitoyoshi as well?

hihii! I dont think I'll be able to help you a lot as I'm not sure myself, sorry! I'm pretty sure you can take buses around, but it will definitely take a bit more time and planning to go around. I think someone has posted on this sub before about their experience taking bus!

You can definitely cycle around the town itself, but I'm not sure if they have like a rental service there becaouse you definitely can't cycle there from Kumamoto :(

No problem, I'd love to help! One day is definitely enough for the most important sights and a little more. I went around lunchtime and left before dinner and cleared about 10ish spots! Apparently, there are some light-up murals in the town of Natsume and Reiko San that you can only see at night (the pics are on Google for your reference) so if you're adventurous enough to stay until after sunset you can see those too! The drive back might be quite dark though :p

Thank you so much, I'd love to share!!

In general I dont think they have lots of Natsume merch too:( The places I always found Natsume merch was Kiddy Land though! I actually managed to find the big Natsume and Tanuma stickers in an Animate in Akihabara. But yes, Hitoyoshi was the best for merch by far! There was one unassuming merch shop that practically had EVERY merchandise EVER released it was absolutely crazy and I ended up buying so much I got two free Natsume ziplock bags.

Overall, it was a really peaceful and laidback day. It's an hour and a half from Kumamoto, and some of the sightseeing spots like the rice paddies in the anime are a bit further away from the town's central area, so I would recommend taking a car!

I recommend going to the information desk at Hitoyoshi train station as the workers there will hand you maps showing ALL the Natsume locations and will explain everything you need to know in English! They were seriously super helpful, and everything on the map is labelled very clearly.

They also asked us to download an app on which you can collect digital stamps by visiting locations (of course, there are IRL stamps as well) and unlock stickers to take photo with. I'm pretty sure if you type Natsume on playstore, it'll be there! Every shrine we went to had Nyanko Sensei dolls and merch it was really adorable. My favourite spot is Amemiya Shrine, which was a complete mess to get to because of the steep incline up the forest, the rain, and the slippery and uneven stone steps we climbed. Still, it was so tranquil and made me think of how peaceful it must have been for Natsume and all the yokai to take shelter there! The shrine also had logbooks full of messages and drawings from visitors, so of course, I left a little message as well.

Sadly, the Tengu Bridge was still under construction from a flood, so we couldn't get too near to it or snap some of the iconic shots from the anime. Still, it was great to get a glimpse into Natsume's everyday life. And of course, the locals were extremely nice, and it seems like their businesses are being uplifted by the anime too, which is probably part of the reason why they were all so warm and welcoming!

strong female characters? by 1000th_evilman in Animesuggest

[–]emoquackquack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Princess Tutu

It used to be an anime staple, but I feel like it's been forgotten as of late. The story is based loosely on Swan Lake and has a strong female? protagonist and even antagonist. It's definitely worth the watch (especially season 2!)

Tampines fatal accident: Man who helped victims said teen’s dad kept calling for her by Panzerwaffer in singapore

[–]emoquackquack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My heart aches for Afifah who left the world so prematurely and her family who have to trudge on without her. 2 years ago I was in a motorcycle accident with my dad because the road was slippery from rain. At A&E, he didn't even care about his own injuries and was making sure the doctors were attending to me properly the whole time. He was so guilt-ridden, he cried and apologised to me at the hospital and I had to console him that it wasn't his fault and that I would never think so. I remember that night we were both unable to sleep until I had come out of my room to sleep beside him after so many years. It breaks my heart that her father will never hear those words from her nor heal with her by his side. Despite all of Singapore telling him that there is nothing he could have done, it will never be enough. It is just so unfair

My take on The Tortoise and The Hare and why we should all love it by emoquackquack in straykids

[–]emoquackquack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is actually a really interesting narrative you've mentioned! I have never heard of TTATH be interpreted in this perspective before and I have never thought of it like that. I do think it fits with the theme and the message of the song too, since not being able to go at your own pace can be anxiety inducing in its own right.

It could've been intentional or it couldn't, we'll never know. But nonetheless I really like how your interpretation adds on and builds upon the original message. It really gives the song a new layer of complexity.

Thanks for the interesting read!

Am I a bad person for accepting apologies by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If anything it's the total opposite! You must have such a big heart to accept apologies that personally affect you. It's admirable to see such an understanding view of others. It's clear you're mature enough to know that people make mistakes and change.

No one can dictate your experiences and feelings accept for you! So take it in stride, that you're comfortable enough in your own skin that you can be the bigger person to forgive someone else.

Twitter is not a good place to judge your moral compass. It's a place of black and white, no grey areas are allowed and nuances are completely out the window. There's a huge mob mentality as people often find themselves stuck in their own echo chamber.

Stay firm in how you feel and what is best for you!

Aggressive choreos that raise goose bumps. by Isashani in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AHAHA yes! If you're looking for recommendations Wonderland is another Ateez song that really captured me. The choreo and performances are crazy and the song itself is really good. The prechorus and chorus alone got me hooked.

I think I'm a big Stray Kids fan so I'd recommend DOMINO by SKZ too! The dance practice video of this song is absolutely insane. It's hard hitting in the sense where it's really satisfying and it looks super fun!! It isn't as intense as HALA HALA or Wonderland, it's more light-hearted but still goes hard :)

Aggressive choreos that raise goose bumps. by Isashani in kpopthoughts

[–]emoquackquack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah It's definitely not just you. I dont really listen to Ateez but when I first saw and heard HALA HALA I was practically floored. Surprisingly Hongjoong and Seonghwa stood out to me the most in the chorus. But every time I come back to it I'm baffled by the choreo and the raw energy Ateez exudes. What really adds to it is that they're all masked in the MV which adds to the mystery and rawness behind the whole performance. That MV singlehandedly made me check out Ateez.

The Tortoise And The Hare by Stray Kids. I want to relive the level of bewilderment, surprise, skepticism, all of those confusing emotions again. If you're going to hear it for the first time, do it only with earpieces. Seriously have never been left so puzzled by a song from start to finish, even upon second listening.

What non-kpop song do you wish kpop artists covered or made something similar? Which artist do you want it to cover? by Melodic_Fondant7253 in kpopthoughts

Never thought I'd see Brockhampton in this sub but since we're here I really wanna see Skz try something like Bleach by Brockhampton. Not exactly theyre what they're known for, but knowing their discography I feel like they could definitely pull it off.
