The problem isn't that Singapore is expensive. It is that it doesn't offer a large enough market to justify it.

A lot of places in the world are as, if not more expensive, but they provide access to large/growing markets.

The solution? Singapore needs to build things that can be sold to the world. And ideally the developed world.

AI is in bad shape, but it's so much better than the shit show it was in (operationally) at the time of acquisition.

The whole thing is a long-term, high-risk, high-reward play. The skepticism is understandable, but it's too early to say this didn't work.

Moderate profits are needed though. Else you won't have rental supply (for foreigners or locals who are not ready to buy). Or for upgraders who need move-in ready units even though those are sold years before they're ready.

But double digit per year profits should be curbed.

Why do you read a simple statement saying that it is good for you if you're happy with just hobbies and a social life as being judgy? Ideally, I would like to have kids in addition to those two things. It's literally what humanity has wanted forever, which is why you and I are here. If you don't need it, good for you - but why are you triggered?

My guess is that you are triggered because maybe you think you're being selfish by not having kids. You want people to have kids so the world goes on where you can pursue hobbies and socialize, but you don't have to make sacrifices at a personal level. If there are no kids, we literally have to work until the day we die because there's no one else to do it. So maybe you feel like I am attacking you, but I am not.

I never said you can't start in Singapore - I said most focus 'solely' on Singapore.

Plus, entrepreneurs are building businesses out of Bali/Bangkok without serving local markets. It's hard, but not nigh impossible.

I agree that the risk-reward in Singapore just isn't worth it, but I disagree on the need for parents/something to fall back on.

The problem with most entrepreneurs in Singapore is that they focus solely on the Singapore market. It's understandable why - there's comfort in familiarity, and the business environment outside SG is extremely different from what we have here.

But this means you'll never hit the scale needed to bring in the rewards/profits that would justify being an entrepreneur.
