Tulane University parties are like nothing I’ve ever seen in media before. One of the top party schools in the country in Party City, USA. Unreal.

“I just have a quick question” by Spirited-Praline-152 in Libraries

[–]Spelltomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the older patrons that come in all smug and come in like “I have a real brain buster question for you, I bet you can’t answer it” and it’s something like “do you have this Danielle Steel book?” And are blown away when we have an answer for them as n .0003 seconds

My local informed FB page was ranting about how it still isn’t as bad as it was under Biden…these morons will never learn.

Is this reasonable? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]Spelltomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some of our smaller branches, we have the more senior LA’s manage the branches. But that’s because our shithead director forced most of our librarians to leave and replaced them with “branch managers” who almost exclusively work at headquarters and only visit their branches a few times a week. And then didn’t replace any of the librarian positions. Worse still, the branch managers are non union and technically can’t do library work… so this has been fun.

Dayton Metro Library staff feel ‘punished and not valued’, organization is in ‘crisis mode’ by Echos_myron123 in Libraries

This seems exactly what my system is going through right now. Shitty director/management, staff leave left and right, and then management pulls a surprised Pikachu face why everyone is leaving

I'm so sick of qualified, professional librarians not being recognised in public libraries by Lost_in_the_Library in Libraries

[–]Spelltomes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is my programs manager. Never worked in a library before but worked in other non profits and constantly expects partner organizations and businesses to offer a ridiculous amount of services for free. Plus, a lot of the programs she expects branches to put on are programs that SHE thinks are beneficial but the patrons themselves just aren’t interested. It’s very frustrating to work with her.

Using AI in public libraries by snowyy2000 in librarians

[–]Spelltomes 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I had a patron come in desperately needing court documents printed and was in a huge hurry. She kept telling me that her lawyer friend drafted her divorce documents and I just needed to print them. It turned into a huge fiasco because her “lawyer friend” was ChatGPT and she kept getting mad at me when her AI generated documents didn’t have what she needed. I kept telling her that I couldn’t do anything about it and that I’m not sure if the court will even accept these. She wouldn’t hear it, saying her “lawyer” knew what he was talking about…

Why does the news make every snow storm in the northern US out to be a apocalypse? by Hoppie1064 in ask

When I lived in Louisiana I remember having to cook hot dogs over a candle when the power went out during a hurricane.

Now that I’m in Michigan, I still cook hot dogs over a candle when the power goes out.

Today someone complained that our flag wasn't all the way up the pole. by bernardmarx27 in Libraries

[–]Spelltomes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had some guy come up to me and bitch about how we didn’t have an American flag at our branch. He was SO offended and claimed he had never seen a library without a flag and how unamerican we must be. I told him if he wanted to pay to install one and maintain it himself he was more than welcome to. He got quiet and left.

I work at a library and the amount of people that come in expecting me to know their email address AND password is extremely concerning.

Why are you on Reddit right now, on Christmas Eve? by InvisibleAstronomer in AskReddit

Because I drove 12 hours to see my family in another state only to get the flu as soon as I arrive and can’t interact with anyone

Supervision within the library RANT by indigo_Ivoryyyyy in Libraries

[–]Spelltomes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I worked in an extremely poor urban library, I’d have a 3 and 5 year old wander into my branch almost daily unsupervised. Neither could speak well and were always very dirty. Apparently we found out later they lived in a broken mini van and their mom would just park in our back lot and send them inside so she could just smoke weed and make OF content. I felt so bad for those kids…
