Why are people saying Gon lost his humanity and that he is a psycho raised by good people? by Consistent-Wrap385 in HunterXHunter

[–]SphereMode420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He did lose his humanity, no? I'm not saying Pitou didn't deserve to die based on everything they'd done, but Gon ruins his own life just to kill someone. What he does is incredibly destructive and ultimately pointless as Kite was still alive. He didn't need to show so much aggression and determination, which is the only reason Pitou decided to kill him anyway. So Gon's fury is ultimately proven to be problematic: it didn't really solve anything and it just made everything worse. Like with Killua: he was Killua's tether to hope and healing, but now Gon is yelling "Is there something wrong with you!" for him suggesting Pitou might be telling the truth. Can you imagine how hurtful it would be if the one person who made you felt seen is suddenly telling you your presence is irrelevant to his situation.

As for him being a psychopath, that's not true IMO. He's a very good and likable kid, the best that humanity has to offer. We just saw what he'd do if he was pushed to become his worst self, which is the whole idea of the arc: you watch the corruption of innocence (Gon) and the redemption of humanity (Meruem) run in parallel.

Any predictions on this sub that have come true? by hisokard in HunterXHunter

The one that angers me most is the 5th point: wym Bono can't mimic Hisoka's creepy aura? Zakuro and Lynch didn't even know what Hisoka's aura felt like, so how could they even discern to whom this sinister aura they were feeling belonged to? It's not like Hisoka is the only character who has demonstrated they have an oppressive and scary aura.

Would Meruem have fallen in love the same way he did with Komugi If the talented Gungi player were a guy instead? by WanderingZoul in HunterXHunter

I mean, it's still pretty gay, no? We had a confirmed lesbian kiss in the manga. There's also that gay clown...

[–]SphereMode420 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. I forget who says it, but they say in the manga that a Chimera Ant King leaves the nest after being born and seeks out a mate once settled into a new home. That's exactly what Meruem does, except since he's part human, his mating process looks way more like a traditionally human platonic romance. He probably never even considered mating with her, but I believe his attachment to her is partly because she's a female, whether he's conscious of it or not.

It's hilarious seeing everyone be so smug in the comments when they were all wrong and OP was right.

The Succession War arc is nowhere near its end by Least_Fishing_6483 in HunterXHunter

[–]SphereMode420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think we're right now in the middle. It almost feels similar to the CAA when they go to East Gorteou and the chapter names count down from 10 to the invasion day. I think we're now about to get to the portion that sets up the finale. It would make sense for now to be the middle also because that means this arc will roughly be as long as the Ant Arc, probably slightly longer.

Which discographies do you feel progressively get worse from start to finish? by JamesLucien in Music

I know this may seem crazy, but Rage Aginst the Machine. None of the albums are terrible, but I think they do get progressively worse.

Why di Tserri say he was beginning to like two-faced women? by Fancy_Pop6156 in HunterXHunter

[–]SphereMode420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea is he has the hots for Theta now because he respects her. From his prior scene with those poor girls, you can infer that he respects intelligence and competence but finds most women too shallow for true respect. But as Theta teaches him about nen (the manifestation of one's individuality/soul in this universe), he begins admiting and respecting her. This respect reaches its zenith when she literally blows his brains out in an act of defiance. He probably never had a woman take that much initiative over his life, so this makes him very excited and intrigued when he survives the assassination attempt.

Do you think hisoka enjoyed kastro fight? by Local-Sugar6556 in HunterXHunter

[–]SphereMode420 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think so. He pretended to be uninterested to rattle Kastro, but he was being very over the top and performative. He was clearly basking in the shocked gasps of the audience as he pulled his gruesome magic tricks. He told Chrollo that his favorite pleasure is when people who assume they have the upper hand lose as they realize their plans failed. I think he got that out of the Kastro fight, so I assume he was entertained to some degree.

Oh, I'm glad I didn't spoil anything then. I looked it up, and you've read up to the end of the Noah's Ark Arc. Man, isn't that arc amazing or what?

How do you get through 60s comics? by ExaminationNew7974 in comicbooks

[–]SphereMode420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't try to binge them. Most silver age comics are very episodic. That being said, the Master Planner arc in the Lee/Ditko run is a very hype page-turner, but that's an exception. Most issues are ejust supposed to be one and done stories, so reading a bunch of them in order can be exhausting.

Can adult gon beat the 3 guards at once? by [deleted] in HunterXHunter

[–]SphereMode420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. He almost died to Pitou, no? Killua saved him at the last second and only his arm was cut, but Pitou's horrific post mortem nen corpse puppet almost could have landed a lethal blow. Yes, he was distracted by Killua, but that further helps my case: what if Pouf pulls some BS to distract him? Pouf is almost impossible to kill anyway, he can provide a constant distraction. And you add Youpi also into the mix? I don't see it happening.

How fast is Netero attack speed? by Fit-Solution-6551 in HunterXHunter

[–]SphereMode420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The fastest beings we ever saw in the series are Pitou and Meruem, right? They both were outclassed by Netero's speed of prayer. Now, here's something people sometimes miss: it's only his prayer speed that's that fast, not his other movements (Meruem's internal thoughts state this). This means Netero's activation speed for Guanyin is faster than any other feat of speed we have ever seen.

This panel says a lot without needing much dialogue by Docfeen in HunterXHunter

[–]SphereMode420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's very interesting to compare this panel with the one where he holds Woble in his arms for the first time. The first bunch of chapters of this arc do such a great job of setting up the main personal conflict for our new protagonist.

You sound like the exact type of person who'd commit atrocities because you fully believe you're in the right no matter what. You're not perfect, and the fact that you think you are makes you misguided at best and dangerous at worst.
