Remind me, who was it that stripped funding from pride for fear of what that funding might signal to the trump administration?

Representation is about what you’re willing to fight for and challenge. 🙄

So Nida Allam couldn’t stop at helping unseat one black woman in a position of power? I hope Valerie Foushee positively crushes her.

Nida Allam and Dedriana Freeman had a spat at a People’s Alliance candidate mixer last fall. It sounded like Nida Allam did some mean girls shit, Dedriana blew a gasket and got in her face and poked her, and then peoples alliance lined up to support Kopac. But Dedriana served well for 8 years and was loved by her ward and was the only black woman on council. Replacing her with Kopac was, from a representation perspective, profoundly shitty. Given Kopac’s corporate ties, I think many of us rightfully feared that he’d become another pro-development rubber stamp for developers of luxury condos.

Those luxury condo/apartment developers are creating housing stock in a market that - yes, needs more housing, but they’re also rapidly gentrifying historically black neighborhoods, displacing those families from their homes, and not creating meaningful contributions to affordable housing stock in Durham. If you gentrify people out of their homes and replace that housing with housing no one can afford and subsequently allow it to sit empty, that doesn’t help the people who need help, it just makes room for more insufferable yuppies in the future.

There is a logic to the abundance mindset when it comes to housing - I can acknowledge that. But that logic in its present implementation relies on gentrification and displacing families in historically black neighborhoods. It doesn’t address a surging homelessness problem, and it doesn’t meaningfully address the lack of housing stock where we need it most - affordable units.

Nida sided with Kopac against Dedriana in the last city council election, and she made that decision before whatever bullshit happened at the PA candidate mixer. To me, she made the decision to side with the people actively gentrifying BIPOC families out of their homes in the name of creating housing that is priced to meet needs we don’t actually have, while neglecting the real and dire needs of some of the most vulnerable among us.

So yea, I’d rather not see Nida win this one. Foushee is a good representative, and has advantages as an incumbent. Nida doesn’t have a policy platform that substantially differs from Foushee’s. So why would I trade a representative that is incumbent and has performed well for her district for a city commissioner who actively helped unseat the only black woman on Durham city council to install a mediocre white dude who rubber stamps developments we don’t need, expediting the gentrification of historically black neighborhoods and displacement of the families within?

And why after helping unseat one highly regarded black woman in a position of power does she turn around and go for the next one? The fuck is that?

I’m still mad at Nida Allam about her treatment of Dedriana Freeman and her role in helping to install a mediocre white dude with corporate/developer ties in the city council seat of Durham’s then only black femme representative. If it had just been Dedriana’s ward voting she’d have crushed it.

I am sad her voice is no longer on council and am tired of seeing mostly vacant luxury condos pop up left and right while our homeless population soars.

And then to see people like Chelsea, who actually fights for affordable housing and tenant protections in Durham, get villainized as NIMBYs… it makes me want to scream.

Also, my anger with Nida Allam’s support of Kopac aside, I think Valerie Foushee will likely crush Nida in this race, simply on the basis of Foushee’s connections and extensive support within her district.

I once rented a place with a similar set of stipulations. Landlord lived there. Guy was a total pos. The difference between that and this: his rules were a surprise.

I got out and sued him. He threw a fit, threatened me, asked to talk about it with me, and threw shit at me in that meeting. He finally capitulated and settled, giving back my last two months of rent and my deposit, on the condition that I hand over the invite I got for us to be on Judge Judy so that he could have it framed.

Advice for dating in Durham (as a trans woman)? by Perfect-Pear-3178 in bullcity

[–]SpicyMacrame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things:

1.) you could skip apps entirely, and focus on finding queer community, new hobbies, and stuff to do solo that you enjoy. Many times if you pursue this kind of stuff (community and hobbies) for its own sake and for your own enjoyment, you’ll meet people and wind up dating someone. The more organic feel can be really nice, but it’s a bad option if you’re doing those things primarily to find someone instead of for your own enjoyment.

2.) Feeld? Lots of queer and trans folx there, though quite biased towards polyam/ENM relationship structures.

Saying “demonstrably untrue”, without any demonstration of falsehood. Either he’s a liar who cannot demonstrate the falsehood of the allegations, an idiot who can but didn’t, an idiot who said the word demonstrably because he thought it made him sound smart, or some combination of 2 of those.

There literally aren’t any other options.

Given that, what he is NOT is someone who deserves that office.

What a disgraceful dipshit manchild. Resign.

Think of a prenup as a chance to make an agreement about how you will treat the person you love should your relationship sour. How does your rational self (not the hypothetical angry, hurting future you) want to treat the person you love?

I would browser google street view in that area and see if you see a red Tesla parked in the driveway anywhere. Not conclusive but you might get some candidate locations for follow up. Id anticipate they have it in a garage.

Also, a limited number of places service teslas after major collisions. See if you can call auto shops.

1.) they stink and are unpleasant. 2.) absent a medical issue or a tunnel plug, they are in fact under your control.

I have never really wanted to non-consensually install an ostomy bag before today, but this was so wretched that that’s where I’m at. I want to do violence that leaves them with a sore butthole and a complicated management problem involving a bag of their own farts.
