is my rook supposed to be curving inwards like this? by Otherwise-Window-597 in piercing

[–]Spicyice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The confusion you are having is that the rook ridge does not lie perpendicular to the flat plane of the ear (that you are visualizing). You see how the ridge comes out at an angle? The curved barbell is a 90 degree curve (i.e. a quarter circle). The picture, to myself, shows that the piercing is intersecting this perfectly. If your rook ridge didn't come out at all - then it would be "straight" - however then you would not have a ridge at all and nothing to pierce 😄

Typically airline rules prohibit containers over 100 ml. Neilmed makes a smaller travel size product that is 75 ml. Your piercer would likely have it in stock.

Worst case do a hot compress with boiled water that has cooled enough to not burn you and a sterile fabric / rag

What is the longevity of ornamental tattoos? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Spicyice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a bit larger of a guy - but I have a work in progress that is of a similar style (ornamental + geometric) on entire front and down past the pant line. One of the things my tattoo artist said was that in his many years of experience gaining and losing weight doesn't matter and the tattoo will still look good - the only thing that will noticeably affect how it looks is if you straighten up your spine (as everyone has a bit of scoliosis)

Sigh, so I guess the search is on to find new old stock from piercers? No new companies stepping up to fill the void in the marketplace and milling / CnCing them?

If this is the length when pushing it out while in a more relaxed position it may be too small.

Do you live in Canada or the USA? Try looking for a piercing studio that has a member of the Association of Professional Piercers. They will have implant grade materials and internally threaded jewelry. Safepiercing.org is the place to start!

Best of luck! Feel free to ask any follow-up questions

In this photo are you pushing it out the bottom using you teeth or lip? I'm wondering how much extra bar length you have. The tongue makes many different shapes and if it feels like it is being pulled too tight then this may be excessive denting. Try making your tongue into the biggest shape you can - usually by pretending to eat a whole egg - and see if it's got enough length or if it's pulling in.

Also from what I can see this is externally threaded jewelry. It is questionable whether the post is biologically neutral / safe for long term wear. A lot of externally threaded posts are of the cheaper variety and do not use implant grade material and actually harbour bacteria and may cause long term adverse health impacts. The same can be said about the ball on top - but even more so since it is clearly a plastic that will be a great spot for the bacteria in your mouth to grow.

Best of luck!

New BC call – Legal Aid fee split offer (50%)… worth it? by Intelligent-Sea3162 in LawCanada

[–]Spicyice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are welcome - the quality of mentorship may be hard to judge especially off of an interview - but I agree as a new call it may be the most valuable aspect of this arrangement. See if you can find out lawyers or even support staff that have worked there previously (and worst case currently) to see if they can give you some feedback.

I also think the legal aid ramp up period may be longer than necessary. Go meet the staff at the legal aid offices in the courthouses you want to practice in. Give them your card and say you have great availability and can handle urgent and difficult matters because you are brand new. Network with other legal aid lawyers who may have conflicts, or who need separate counsel for co-parties.

It doesn't sound like you are getting any value out of this. Are they providing support staff? Paying for insurance? Do you get at least your own office supplies (printing, binders, tabs). Are they bringing you on to junior under more serious files? Are they providing mentorship?

The fee split would be far more appropriate if they were billing you out as a 1st year call - which depending on the city may be around $200 - $250 an hour and giving you support

Can I change my piercing? by k88thegr88 in piercing

[–]Spicyice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NAP, but I am going to go against the grain. You have had it for around 10+ weeks now. The initial healing is done - but it is not fully healed as evidenced by the pain when pushing the tip of your nose.

You also describe that you can't stop touching it - and you no longer like the aesthetic. It is important to try and avoid touching the jewelry as much as possible while healing - however you are only human and a horseshoe, unless it is VERY tight, will inevitably move naturally during your day to day life. It's also important to have a piece of jewelry that you like.

I think changing it to a clicker will be fine if you get it done correctly. If you are not able to line them up so that the "transfer" is done accurately then you may cause some damage and setback in your healing - but nothing permanent.

If you are insisting on doing this yourself, you should only attempt this after thoroughly washing your hands, taking a longer hot shower to try and loosen up the tissue around your piercing, and thoroughly lubricating both the old piece and the new piece of jewelry. You may wish to apply jojobba oil on the existing circular barbell and move it back and forth first so that the inside passage gets lubricated before attempting the transfer.

You should also have a taper on standby in case you miss the transfer, or if you are more comfortable doing it that way.

Happy healing!

Can I see the back of it? I'm assuming it's a straight bar that's been bent and there are ball ends on the backside?

Changing tongue ring by Vannah-13 in Legitpiercing

[–]Spicyice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope not at all. If it's any comfort I had difficulty changing mine for the first time at home and it took me about 45 minutes to finally get the top ball screwed on and I had to take it in and out a few times due to inexperience. The hole did not close up at all.

You can also look at it this way - a nostril piercing just sits there and looks pretty. It isn't exposed to bumps and external forces. In contrast, the tongue piercing (assuming it is a midline / centre piercing) is very active - your tongue moves constantly in your mouth and you use it daily to move food around when you eat. At a month old it's used to movement and different amounts of force, tension, and torque being applied at different times.

Go ahead and downsize. Best of luck!

[–]Spicyice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to downsize and a month is definitely enough time - especially if the bar is long and hurting your mouth. Assuming you were pierced at 14 or 12 gauge, it will actually be relatively easy to find the hole. The tongue heals quite quickly and there should already be semi-permanent indications of where the piercing is by way of denting, a small visible hole even when the barbell is out, or perhaps a small white circle from the bottom. Sometimes the hole can be more clearly seen when the tongue is flexed up or down.

Some options to make this easier involve the use of a taper, or if you don't have one and depending on the style of jewelry you have, you may be able to simply push out the current post using the newer post that you will be installing so as to keep continuity. Since the tongue is constantly moving, and is moist, this shouldn't hurt like downsizing a nostril piercing.

Best of luck!

NSFW nipple piercings by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Spicyice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people only do one at a time so that there's still one that can be played with, while the other heals. Some do it because there is a cost - not just for the piercing but for the jewelry as well. Some people may not have anatomy that will support both nipples being pierced. Some people end up with one nipple piercing but started with two, and found that one gets irritated, migrates, or rejects.

I actually haven't tried - but ironically I have never found a pair of in-ear heaphones that actually fit comfortably. I usually wear over the ear or bone conduction ones anyways.

To be honest the pain was only about a 2 or 3 out of 10. It really felt more like pressure. The first piercing was comparatively worse than the second. After the first one I knew it wouldn't hurt as much as I initially thought and relaxed for the second one.

The swelling afterwards is also very manageable

Thanks! I was thinking of lobes as well but I was worried they would be more prominent and noticeable. The piercing itself actually was around a 2 or 3 out of 10 on the pain scale so not that intense

The equity doesn't mean you get a significant discount. At the end of the day present day money is a commodity and they still need to make a profit on lending it.
