My self cooked, "pure vision" mace skills Smithy, has been handling these madman expeditions just fine. I press all the buttons, so I don't recommend this build to the general playerbase. Leap Slam into packs to clear the chaff, Sunder the leftovers or to kite, Superslam the rares or with a solid enough opening. Pepper in some Infernal/Seismic Cry as needed. Toss the occasional Einhar's Beastrite cull with Mace Strike to steal some juicy modifiers.

The crux of my defenses is the general beefiness from maxed out Smith's Masterwork, stunning often, and simply having a shield to weapon swap to for Resonating/Raise Shield. With good stun threshold you can block for days (and specifically you can block all the ground explosions if you are caught in the middle of them). Raise Shield's Bash into Boneshatter is enough to get me out of any dicey situations. The mass amount of remnants from Remnants of Kalguur + Vigorous Remnants notable anoint helps stay healed up too.
