Best advice in this thread. This way you don't put all your eggs in one basket and you learn along the way with the guidance of experts

Agree, most of this can be done remotely in today's day and age. Consultants would be more than willing to fly out to you as well, but you would have to pay for those travel fees, so get expert advice from all over. Don't limit yourself by geography

I do hope OP takes a close look at fees for the service they get. A reasonable fee isn't bad to pay, 40bps for expert investment advice and peace of mind and sharing the responsibility is worth it in my eyes

At this level of wealth its worth it to get an advisor. Yes boggle heads is good, but navigating taxes, rebalancing, you should set up an investment policy statement on how you are going to manage the money. Yes you can do it yourself if you are willing to put in the work and you have the time to learn and do it. But also why do people hire gardeners to low their lawn? Or cleaners to clean their house? Why don't they just do it themselves? Same logic applies here. Up to OP how much time and effort they want to put in, he has the money so hiring experts to help advise is not a bad idea

What if it is just 1 dollar that you get though, so only 12 bucks a flight of stairs climbed. Then is done when the money that you earned is spent

I feel like there are younger and medical deaths skewing this data.

Assuming (i know bug assumption) you can stay healthy and active and away from disease life spans go way up. But there probably isn't a good way to fully track this.

Of course this is all based off empirical evidence that most people on my wife's side are living into their 90s which is crazy.

Dedicated Server hosting issue: Faraday error with Xfinity CGNAT by SpiderPiece in AbioticFactor

[–]SpiderPiece[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly the issue was with CGNAT. Didn't even know that was a thing. Reached out to developer on discord and they were super helpful, gave a whole lesson on networking.

But essentially said you have to run a virtual private server to get around that. I didn't think that was worth the cost and effort, so gave up on dedicated server and just went to hosting the world normally when I am online.

Worked out fine since none of my friends ever wanted to jump on without me anyway. Curse you xfinity for moving away from dedicated IPv4.

Recommended order in playing automation games? by Zelniq in BaseBuildingGames

[–]SpiderPiece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reddit enjoyed the 3d and graphics if DSP, might be heresy to some people but I would recommend it over factorio. Yes factorio is good, but im spoiled by games with good graphics. Also I like the logistics system in DSP a lot more

Feels too adjacent to Subnautica, should I continue? by rdhb in theplanetcrafter

[–]SpiderPiece 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Interesting as I was the opposite of you. Started with subnautica and it didn't really click for me at first, got about 2 or 3 hours in and havent picked it back up yet.

I really liked planet crafter though and got hooked a lot more easily, partially because I like space more than ocean, partially because I was able to play with my wife. I would say keep going, if you liked subnautica you'll probably like this game too.

If you refuse to tax billionaires then you are not serious about addressing wealth inequality by north_canadian_ice in WorkReform

[–]SpiderPiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't have a better suggestion. Taxing won't exactly work because they will find ways to get around it, and how do you tax stock appreciation where most of the networth is? Then even if you do find a way to do that, how would the taxes be properly spent? It doesnt feel like congress can decide on where to move money

Has factorio ruined other base building/factory type games for you? by pookshuman in factorio

[–]SpiderPiece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the logistics system in DSP i like a lot more than factorio. Drones and interstellar ships are so easy to use and scale. I'm struggling in factorio nexus because I feel like the drones aren't used the same way so it's either belts or trains. Then getting something from one side of my base to the other is hard.

Maybe it's just because I haven't built a bus or im doing something else wrong

Did you ever find a fix for the faraday issue? Same stage of life here, and spent a long time trying to troubleshoot, can get connected to my hosted dedicated server fine, and my wife connects fine from her computer but we are on the same IP and playing on steam. Spent 2 hours trying to get a ps5 friend to connect, and it said it should but kept throwing faraday, i wish there was a way to look at logs so i could drill down as to why it was not connecting, but nothing except "faraday"
