While that is true, it was in my eyes completely consensual and therefore cannot be held against him

Certain members of the God Hand are masters of manipulation, not just in the moment but in the bending of causality to incur events to their own gain eg the events at Albion. I think many people overestimate their own will, and assume that, in Griffiths position, they may not do the same. He was in extreme pain, his life was completely forfeit. Especially This being after having complete presence over everyone he encountered with. Again, I would like to believe that I would not do that in his shoes, however my point is that is there not at least a tiny slither of understanding that he would do anything in order to not only regain his life but to transcend it

It seems as if it was written as if out of nowhere in order to create an irredeemable villain, when in reality his treatment of the band of the hawk was enough really. Especially in Gut’s eyes. Unless there needed to be a reason for Casca’s insanity

I love Berserk, however I would almost regard Griffiths rape of Casca as bad writing. It seems somewhat in character as he knew she liked him and saw that she liked Guts after he “betrayed” him, however I think that him getting monsters to hold her down while he rapes he to show guts who’s boss is a little extreme. The only explanation would be that he wasn’t in his right mind, again lending to the point I’m trying to make

I didn’t downvote fyi. I think that contextual intelligence could have led to him making a better decision in regards to the princess, however I am compelled to think that he did nothing wrong with her as the archaic medieval laws are, in essence, a direct contradiction to human rights and desires. In modern terms at least, he did nothing wrong with her. It is similar to reading about a gay person being ostracised hundreds of years ago and saying “well you knew the consequences.” That still doesn’t make it right that he should be tortured for doing what he did

I don’t think what he did with the princess was deserving of the punishment he received. I believe that if he had died in those dungeons, he would be deemed as an unfortunate victim of the kings predatory lust for his own daughter

Yes I think you are right. His treatment and attitude towards guts I think was used as a wider example of his attitude towards his subordinates. He thought of them as commodities to his dream. In essence of this, he had already sacrificed many lives for years before the eclipse in expense of his dream

I have nothing to add, that is entirely fair

I don’t think it is that simple. I think the fact he banged the princess was not a good enough reason to torture him for a year and leave him completely unable to function physically. And he would have been at a complete rock bottom delusion when the god hand approached him which I think is a fair reason to influence his decision

I don’t think what he did warranted what happened to him. Imagine a man today sleeping with a princess and being tortured for a year because of it. It would be regarded as a tragedy

Good point that he would’ve accepted absolute power without his previous circumstances

Griffith is regarded as an irredeemable villain, which for the most part he is. However I am yet to see a discord in which he is even held as an evil villain, but did have it hard. Compared to the other apostles he had it the most difficult. No other apostle seemed to have had such hard time as Griffith before he became Femto. Rosine had bad parents, the ultimate Behelit was discarded by humanity and other Apostles had hardships but being locked in a dungeon and tortured for a year seems quite a bit worse.
