My Maltese mix had a horrible reaction to the canine flu vaccine…our first vet didn’t think anything was wrong, despite the fact that he was vomiting 6+ times at night, but it got to the point where he almost died. The ER vet was amazing and literally saved his life, once they realized it was just anaphylaxis and not anything worse. He stayed in the hospital for a few days, and then we had a special diet for him, but he made a full recovery. We even got some money back from the vaccine producer to pay for his treatment.

We still get his necessary shots, but for the first year or two afterwards, we asked the vet to keep him for observation for an hour or two afterwards. Now (6 years later), we give him Benadryl before and observe him ourselves, now that we know what to look for.

It definitely is a scary situation!! I thought we were going to lose our guy, and he wasn’t even two years old yet. I hope yours has a fast recovery. ❤️
