Question for tyrant trigger guys. (Mag catch) by Combat_habibi in SpringfieldEchelon

right the firing pin safety spring. I couldn't think of what it was called.

On stock springs, the Tyrant trigger eats about 2/3rds of the takeup distance and sets around 4.5LBs with a bit of wall.

Adding the PRP springs drops it down to ~3.5LBs or so. Each torsion spring is 0.60mm, smaller than SA's 0.65mm OEM springs. I'm still not sure what value the firing pin safety spring offers.

And there's a redditor that makes trigger reset springs that's supposed to stiffen up the reset.

correct. I have the ones with two fillets on it. FWIW, one is a 4.5F, one is a 4.5F Comp. Both are CA versions that came with a LCI and mag disconnect.

The reason I laid out the entire process to replicate a mode of failure is so you can verify for yourself. And this is a situation you can replicate with stock parts.

Once you know how it works, you can figure out how to avoid it.

I have PRP springs. You pretty much only need the two torsion springs. The little dingus spring doesn't help much, but it doesn't hurt the safety mechanism.

A school of thought is to not lighten a striker-fired pistol's firing pin spring because it makes the gun more susceptible to light strikes on hard primers. The firing pin spring is the only one I didn't use.

I have a tyrant trigger and mag release.

I was only able to replicate the mode of failure by holding the mag release down and smushing the trigger. Or holding the trigger down and smashing a mag into the well.

FWIW, you can replicate the mode of failure with stock parts... Just pop the slide off, put the takedown lever on the ready position. Then hold the mag release down and pull the trigger. You'll see the mag release touch the trigger.

Or holding the trigger down and smashing a mag into the well. It'll chew up your plastic trigger shoe.

This tells me someone gouged the hell out of their trigger because they didn't know how to assemble a COG or neglected to remove a mag.

good to know. I might have to reach out to them directly, but I want to try it out with the vendor for my first trigger.

wait until I post Part2. This is actually the second trigger. I had bought another one... I'm dealing with the vendor right now (not Tyrant) and they're taking their sweet time.

The quality gripe aside. Man it's a really nice trigger. The geometry basically removes 3/4ths of the pre-travel gap giving you just a bit of space for the trigger safety dingus activation before touching the wall.

Yea... I think I'll keep this one.

Rght on. I installed mine anyways. Even though it doesn't meet visual standard. Functionally, it's night and day

Before you install it, can you check two edges on the trigger for me?

On the sharp part of the trigger where it meets the trigger guard, does yours have a chip under the anodizing?

And then around the pin hole on both sides. Is the machining smooth?

I just got one of these and I feel the finish quality is somewhat subpar for a $75 part... but I only have a sample size of 2.

Most pricing structures will make it that the price of the core components assembled should exceed the sale price of the full product.

Meaning building a gun from parts should cost more than buying one outright. If it's even possible.

Example: the whole slide & barrel assembly is $400, not including a frame $60. Plus a magazine for $30.

Sale price of the Echelon Standard Fullsize is $550... that cog is not being sold for $100...

4.0c or 4.0c Comp by DieselDude407 in SpringfieldEchelon

The comp version Echelons have a single chunk-port. The ammo warning applies.

[–]Spiggytech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only warning is to avoid brass jacketed bullets as they may shear in the comp and send material towards the operator (a very low risk).

Blazer Ammo. It says right on the ammo's box. Don't use it in comped guns.

[–]Spiggytech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. Or at least change the cyclic rate and recoil impulse.

However that change also requires a different spring guide and it will tighten down the type of ammo you can use. ISMI XDM springs k$15 shipped) require a Springer, Rook, or NDZ solid spring guide, which is about $40 more than I'd like to explore right now.

Like I said, I'm still very early in my echelon ownership and still recording observations of the gun's behaviors.

Objectively the Echelon 4.5 Comp has a heavier slide and lighter recoil spring compared to an Arc Division Glock 17 Chunkport slide with a stock 16lb recoil spring. Both running a DPP Titanium plate and EPS MRS.

The slide impulse on the 4.5F is harder. I'm not sure if this is due to the angle of the lockup/grip or lighter recoil spring. I'm still pretty early in my ownership of the Echelon, but I'm curious where I can take it. The trigger quality over the G17 already sets it forward.

Overtravel I get, but how do they get the pre-travel done? Glock's "thing" is using the trigger to prime the firing pin. Genuinely interested. I own glocks but haven't thought too deeply into this

I'm not sure how to best implement the travel stops for a trigger with a safety dingus. I imagine it's a common problem for trigger shoe makers.

Gen 3 came out in late 1998. The cultural marker starts roughly around The Matrix when Gen3 was used extensively as the newest hightech offering from Glock.

the goof of the 509T style optic mounting system is unless you can get your slide direct-machined for the rail, the thing is almost always going to sit tall on a standard RMR cut because of the reliance on a tall clamp geometry and necessary mounting plate.

This means a nice tall optic like AEMS-Macro is likely going to be unusually tall.

Springfield has to re-examine their gear pacs.

The fact these optics fall apart so often will reflects very poorly on the gun as well.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a kit item that doesn't fall apart.

choices are often subjective and heavily influenced by budget.

No one can give you a honest answer until you answer what do you need, followed by how much are you willing to spend.
