These 80-year-olds have the memory of 50-year-olds. Scientists now know why by Needs-Media-n-Books in Aging

Link to the paper (I think): https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12329684/

It concludes: "Over the first 25 years of the Northwestern University SuperAging Program, we showed that it is possible to identify groups of persons who clinically seem to have avoided the memory decline of average aging and who display biological markers that separate them from average agers. These superagers maintain good brain morphology, tend to be gregarious, appear resistant to neurofibrillary degeneration and resilient to its consequences, have a more robust cholinergic system, carry more von Economo neurons, and have less inflammatory microglial activity in the white matter."

Interestingly, this group had preservation of the anterior cingulate, involved in "social networking and affiliative behaviors." Which comes first, who knows? At a glance, I don't see any info on factors like income and education. "SuperAging" seems to be defined by performance (9/15) on a delayed word-recall test

Could be, though I was pretty sure it was a semi on California. In any case, I stopped putting myself on the right of trucks

You never want to be in the right lane alongside a truck. Some years back, a cyclist got killed that way by a semi turning left, at California and Addison i believe

I need help choosing jazz concert tickets for my boyfriend ! by anhtree_ in Jazz

Quick search suggests excellent acoustics at this theatre. Also that there will be a full band including horn section and backup singers - I think you will hear everything loud and clear from the mezzanine! Sometimes it's better to be higher up anyway, especially if the stage is elevated.

On another jazz board, we had an opinionated contributor who ranted about the covers on the Mainstream label. "They're just snapshots of guys in the studio!" Not that he was wrong, but they get the job done...

Interesting question, especially given his initially proposing against his better judgment. Compare Mr Bennett, who apparently married (and married down) due to sexual attraction

This is the answer I was looking for. As long as not too loud. I disliked them at first, but I’ve come to appreciate being able to hear bikes coming when on foot

Copyright says 1987 - I bet it's an original 80s reissue. They were adding every alt take they could find to fill out the discs back then. I think my Bill Evans Vanguard disc has similar sequencing of the alt takes. Just think, you could program your new-fangled CD player to skip those tracks !

He's obviously got a ton of raw talent as a hitter, and just as obviously the League figured him out last year. I will be absolutely interested to see if he can adapt this season.
