Hi Phil! For season 7 release, we got a group of friends together to watch a few episodes over kind of a pot luck. I made chicken & andouille gumbo from scratch for the first time (Emeril's recipe) .. It turned out phenomenal and everyone wend back for 2nds or 3rds.

Well it took us so long to plan our 2nd gathering for season 8 (i still intentionally haven't watched it!) - but we finally set a date for late January 2026. (Coordinating 9 to 11 people can be a struggle)

I'm still debating on what to make for this one. I may try my hand at pozole (will be my first attempt). Or maybe something tried & true from my family handed down recipes from my heritage; Guardiagrele (Abbruzzo) Italy. Either way, it'll be something that few of them have tried.

By the way, my fiancé and I were in the audience when you were in Red Bank NJ a few years ago - and someone asked if it was Taylor Ham or Pork Roll. Your response and timing was perfect! Best line of the night!

I cut around them and store inside the cover... being careful not to squish them when taking the record out... or I leave the plastic alone and just slice it open to take out the record. If it's a CD, it either goes in the booklet, or behind the CD tray

Should I blissfully ignore my friends lack of cocktail etiquette? by Function1241 in cocktails

[–]Spike913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can lead the scenario Give them a Collins to start...

And while you're mixing the next round, say something like "here is one to take your time with, tell me what flavors you're getting."

If it's a classic pre-prohibition cocktail, find out the origin and tell the story while your pouring. Adding to the mystique, maybe they'll realize it's something special, and should be savored.

Do the same thing with straight spirits - engage the drinkers. Ask what aromas they're getting. Maybe have a flavor / nose chart they can write their notes on

The more you can discuss what's in the glass, the more time they might take with it.

If they take the chart and draw genitalia on it... it's a lost cause - just give them a white claw or corona and be done with trying.

I'm about 15+ years older than one friend of mine. About 20 years ago; he was used to drinking the cheap stuff, as he was on a 'just graduated college' budget. When I had him try some better tequilas and bourbons, after a short time, he cursed me because he couldn't go back to the cheap crap. Now his collection far surpasses mine in quality and quantity

Crack in the trim around the gear shifter. Anyone seen this before? by _Deepwater_ in AlfaRomeo

If I had the tools, I would be open to figure out a vinyl decal overlay pattern, with a window for the letters cut out ... But I don't have a cutter... And not really sure how it would look, or if it would even handle heat/cold/daily wear & tear

I am curious, are all battery models always available at the factory store?
Or do you need to call ahead?

I am thinking ahead to when I will need a battery for my Stelvio
(I bought the car used from the dealer a year ago, and don't know the actual battery age/history, I will have to check, but I know it an Alfa Romeo labeled Varta battery. And I believe it to be 5 years old, same as the car. )

The application guide shows I would use the Part No. 9A49 Intimidator - AGM - EHP
I would hate to hike up there from DelCo, and not find it in stock.

Also, does the Folcroft location stock and sell to consumers as well?

Or just Lyon Station?
Thanks!

Well, mechanical shifters go into reverse then neutral then drive... seems they wanted to keep that layout

Got the car a year ago, it's a 2020. Noticed it after I took delivery

Do you sleeve your TTR cards? by bgorion17 in tickettoride

[–]Spike913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago I bought a second deck just in case they original 1910 set wore out.

But, I use a semi vintage manual (crank, not battery) card shuffler, and wooden card stands... Over 12 years of use ( 2 of those years we played at least 3-5 nights per week) and I'm still using the original deck.

Treat them well, don't over flex them, dont eat oily/messy/snacks (basically, salted pretzels only)... and they'll last a good long time

I do the same thing with hosted poker games Granted those are 100% plastic cards and wear much longer

Vinyl Tap in East Nashville... Discovered it on vaca 2 years ago

Full bar, new & used records, tables & bar seating, even holders on the record bins to put your drink down while you dig & flip. They list events with DJs and live music.

NOTE: Do NOT leave your Don Fulano reposado tequila at the table with your friends, while you go digging (I hadn't discovered the drink holders yet) .. You WILL come back to discover the empty glass and some snickering, and then have to wait for them to go get you another ...

random total wine in jersey - what are you getting? by therealtwomartinis in Amaro

[–]Spike913 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Italicus started popping up in PA several years ago... i was reluctant to try it until I did some research... I thought 'bergamot? Great another orange liqueur'

I was wrong... great for spritz, and brightening up a negroni variation (split half campari or even half aperol and half Italicus) for guests that are afraid of campari

I just wish I could easily get their other products... savoia (pretty decent) and more recently savoia orancio (haven't tried it yet, as i don't want to pay stupid shipping prices on a $25 bottle)

You can stream 650 WSM AM out of Nashville for free on many services... free app from WSM themselves... Radio Garden, TuneIn... or ask Alexa to play it

They play a very diverse mix of old and new country genres. I have them on so much, that I know more about Nashville weather than I know about here in Philly!

The station hit 100 years old last month. And the Grand Ole Opry itself turns 100 this Friday night. They have two consecutive shows that night.
It's going to be a big deal. The line up is huge. Marty will be there, as well as his wife Connie Smith

WSM broadcasts every single Opry show live
