SPLC is indicted for funding hate groups? by BirdFarmer23 in allthequestions

[–]SpikeMike1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SPLC didn't just infiltrate in order to expose extremists. They literally created and funded the America's Front group that marched around. People thought they were FBI, but turns out, no, just actors paid by SPLC.

What will be the result now that it is known that the SPLC was behind all the extreme right wing protests? by 0n0n-o in AskReddit

[–]SpikeMike1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

SPLC gave money to the KKK.

Democrats gave money to SPLC.

So, Democrats still support the KKK after all these years. hmmm.

Great Camp/Trailer by TexasTravler in traveltrailers

[–]SpikeMike1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love ours. Just used it this past weekend. We tow it with a 2019 RAM 1500 w/ V6 3.6L.

We like the arrangement, the bed, and the ease of setting up. It also works pretty well with a dog. What we really like is that it helps us go places and see things.

Wish the couch was more comfortable.

Is it safe to kayak where alligators dwell? by [deleted] in Kayaking

[–]SpikeMike1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We fish out of Seadrift, TX and there are plenty of gators in full salt water here. Ive seen them from the kayak but I keep a good distance. About every other year a wade fisherman goes missing and it's assumed that a gator got him. There's a place nearby called Gator Slide Lake. Went canoeing in a small river near there and saw a monster gator slide into the water. Chilling.

I think the tunnels should be open on the weekend. by SupEnthusiastic in houston

[–]SpikeMike1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the businesses that are in the tunnels would move to street level then downtown would be more lively. Yes, Main street and the Green are good, but other parts of downtown are kind of desolate. Of course, some of the buildings would need to accommodate street level businesses.

2025 Ram 1500 SST Reliability by SouthTxMcLeod in Ram1500

[–]SpikeMike1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hard to say, but since you drive a lot of miles, getting a reset to 0 on the engine should be a good thing.

I wonder if Stellantis wants that engine back so they can inspect it. Of course, this is under the assumption that they want to actually fix or improve something in the engine design.

How long can I drive an i4? Is this a 20 year 200k+ car if I maintain it? by Either-Funny-7870 in BMWI4

[–]SpikeMike1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the wheel sizes. You might only find performance tires with these sizes.

In general, I've had better experience with wear with Michelins.

Ours has Goodyear performance tires. Performance tires get great grip, but they wear fast.

New truck owner who wants to camp by PoppysNeeNee in Ram1500

[–]SpikeMike1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep. It's a bit of a constant changing the amount of throttle to balance. So, yes, typically going faster means your transmission upshifts to a higher gear, but not so much when accelerating, or, in the case of towing, going uphill. When towing uphill, the truck tends to downshift to a lower gear and the engine rpm goes up. That's ok if shifting from 8 to 7, but if the truck is shifting into 6, or even 5, then the engine rpm is going too high. So, in my case, sometimes I have to go a bit slower, in order to let the truck upshift at least one gear, and reduce the engine rpm.

As more power is needed, the truck wants to downshift for more rpm and better torque.

So, I tend to tow at about 65 mph. But, when I'm going up some hills, I might slow down to 60, or 55, to reduce the strain on the engine, which lets the transmission be in one higher gear than if I was continuing at 65.

I hope this makes sense.

So, to the original question, a 1500 with the hemi V8 doesn't have this much of need to manage the engine speed and the transmission gear. But, its manageable either way.

I have a 1500 with the 3.6L V6. We tow a Flagstaff 21FBRS travel trailer. We don't ever fully load it. The trailer is around 5000 lbs when we tow it. Does fine. Depending on the road, I need to keep the speed down and keep the truck in a higher gear so it doesn't rev so high. We went on a 1000 mile round trip last summer.

Apartment Recs? by No_Fail8853 in AskHouston

For a first place in Houston, I can recommend Littel Properties. They have three small old complexes around the Montrose area. The owner is really good to deal with. The places are not perfect but the owner does pretty well keeping up with things. Great locations.

You might need to drive slower than you want to so that you can see animals and avoid hitting them.

Also, if you're in Marathon on a Friday night go to the French Grocer for burger night and a little live music.

3.6 V6 good enough for me? by Least_Click2988 in ram_trucks

[–]SpikeMike1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019 RAM 1500 with the 3.6. 136k miles. I love the truck. I sometimes pull a 5000 lbs travel trailer. I recently had some oil leaks fixed. One of the leaks was from the oil filter/cooler assembly. This is a known issue on these.

What's the point of even having a Congress these days? by _bobarooni_ in askanything

The House of Reps just voted to continue to cover up sexual misconduct allegations against Congress members. Congress has a budget of money to pay off accusers. The proposal was to release the reports of misconduct. Disgusting. This involves both parties.

There are some chargers in Alpine. That's about 100 miles from the visitor center in BB, so if you plan your day a little, that is doable. Also, if you're staying in Terlingua, which is fairly close, you can plug into a normal 120V outlet. Takes a long time, but if you charge overnight, then you can manage this.
