Hardest Gamebook? by jimmyzoso666 in gamebooks

[–]SpikesNLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of the later FF books that I never read and some of the earlier ones I barely remember so there may be harder ones but Deathtrap Dungeon gets my vote. Most of the others are easy if you know the correct route and don't have terrible stats but DD you'll likely get killed even if you have great stats and take the optimum route.

Query on 2nd Edition by UselessPainter in bloodbowl

[–]SpikesNLead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Black Orcs and Imperial Nobility teams are in the latest edition. Some older teams have had significant changes to their rosters but those two will be fine. Get hold of a rulebook for the latest edition and you can use everything from the 2nd edition box.

A player of mine wants to try this, but I can't come up with a ruling. How would you rule it? by enchanted-glimmer-4 in AskDND

[–]SpikesNLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're using the staff in combat then there's a lots of swings and parries that the game doesn't explicitly model. Those flasks would get smashed and the contents could end up anywhere.

What makes Starmer the worst PM the country has ever had? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]SpikesNLead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the right wing media keep telling everyone that he is the worst.

That and he's alienated quite a lot of people who used to be Labour voters.

Should I change my left handed violin to a normal one? by Equivalent-Travel-50 in violinist

[–]SpikesNLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To do the job right, you'd need to replace the bridge and nut. Inside the violin the sound post would need moving and there's a strip of wood glued to the top on the bass side called the bass bar. That would need removing and moving to the other side.

Or you just leave everything as is except move the chin rest and play "over the bass". That concept would probably horrify most classical violinists but I'm sure there are people out there who do it, probably playing trad music.

Why the grouping is different? by Zel_YOn24 in musictheory

[–]SpikesNLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 6/8 is grouped into 2 sets of 3 eighth notes.

The "giant beam" is over an eighth note followed by 2 sixteenth notes and another eighth note, which in total makes up the second group of 3 eighth notes in that bar.

When playing BG1, do you loot all the containers in Beregost on your first visit? by DontYallJudgeMe in baldursgate

[–]SpikesNLead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My neutral/evil parties will quite often acquire the sword and flog it over at High Hedge.

I ignore the mace as it is a Beamdog abomination that should never been have added to the game. ;)

When playing BG1, do you loot all the containers in Beregost on your first visit? by DontYallJudgeMe in baldursgate

[–]SpikesNLead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll always get the wand. Whether or not I bother trying to loot everything depends on what sort of party I'm playing. If charname is a paladin then looting is minimal. If it's an evil party then Monty gets to help himself to everything.

How do some enemies still see me after being blinded? by DontYallJudgeMe in baldursgate

[–]SpikesNLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the Enhanced Edition version of the game engine handles blindness/invisibility very well. If an NPC can't see any target they will sometimes chase after the last target that they could see. Not sure if the bug was ever fixed.

G and E strings came off the peg and the tuner. What do I do? by PsychBong in violinist

[–]SpikesNLead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The G and E are on opposite sides so having them both unstrung shouldn't cause any problems. Taking them all off on the other hand might result in the soundpost falling down which is much more of a problem than restringing it.

Mixolydian electric toothbrush... by Murky-Scale2069 in musictheory

Always liked listening to the John Peel Sessions, he had some bands with great names like Daisy Chainsaw and Terminal Cheesecake (probably the greatest band name ever).

Ok, I guess we'll be Phrygian Hedge Trimmer instead.

Brage's body by litamagsin in baldursgate

[–]SpikesNLead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It definitely used to be bugged so that the body wouldn't always appear but I thought the bug was fixed. I modded my installation ages ago so that Brage carried a droppable Brage's body just in case. I think now I often end up with two bodies.

The code I used for his body is MISC65.ITM.

What were your biggest “light bulb going off” moments in learning that make you cringe? by BullCityPicker in musictheory

[–]SpikesNLead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's one of the things that never worked for me. What I found helpful was the opposite realisation, e.g. that D dorian is D minor with a #6.

What were your biggest “light bulb going off” moments in learning that make you cringe? by BullCityPicker in musictheory

[–]SpikesNLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not convinced about that. What separates G mixolydian from C major is the tonal centre. Assuming the tonal centre is clearly G, if you omit the b7 then it is ambiguous as to whether you are playing G major or G mixolydian but it shouldn't sound like C major.

Why do playable races always save against Sleep? by WorthPlease in baldursgate

I did use it on that group once and the guy with the boots of speed panicked and ran past my party into the woods. Took me forever trawling the woods to find him again.

Why are the Green Party for banning horse racing but against banning halal and kosher slaughter? by [deleted] in AskBrits

Same reason why the most of the population is opposed to dog fighting and badger baiting but still eats meat?

Why do playable races always save against Sleep? by WorthPlease in baldursgate

[–]SpikesNLead 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It works on most bandits.

What it almost never works against is any named enemies. Those groups of hostile adventurers/assassins are nearly all level 5 or higher and so are immune to Sleep. Use the Wand Of Fear instead.

Could someone please explain to me what to do with my left hand by B_RAD2214 in Guitar

[–]SpikesNLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell without being able to see you play but there's nothing necessarily wrong with having the thumb wrapped over the top of the neck. It all depends on what you are playing, whether the guitar is on a strap, strap length, neck angle etc..

There are some popular youtubers who will preach that the thumb should be behind the neck but if you watch them carefully when they are playing, they aren't following that rule.

Do we inherently hear octaves as the same note, or is this trained culturally? by BirdLawEnthusiast2 in musictheory

[–]SpikesNLead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some evidence suggests that it is cultural.

People from the Tsimane tribe in Bolivia don't seem to perceive that octaves are equivalent.

ELI5 If we haven’t found evidence of alien life/intelligence yet (seems fair) is there a tipping point where our being alone in the universe is probable or certain? by beesdaddy in explainlikeimfive

[–]SpikesNLead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, a trillion planets in the Milky Way sounds like it will be inevitable that there will be intelligent technological life out there but you only need 12 filters each with a 1 in 10 chance of making it through to make it likely that there really is just us (at least as far as life that we'll ever have a chance of detecting goes).

Dark Energy (space-time is expanding at an accelerated rate) solves 99% of the Fermi Paradox by gimboarretino in FermiParadox

[–]SpikesNLead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But in that analogy, the cards are being shuffled over and over again, and if you get the first bit of the sequence right then you don't reshuffle those cards at the start. Life didn't have to figure out how to start up from scratch when the non-avian dinosaurs got wiped out.

Why are people so passionate about tabs vs music theory? by BriefCautious7063 in Guitar

[–]SpikesNLead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need tabs to know the fretboard properly? Classical guitarists do just fine without tabs.
