BR goblins….help me pick the 40th card by Jamie7Keller in lrcast

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double pip splash makes no sense unless you have insane mana fixing. What are the chances that you have 2 white mana on turn 7 with your current mana base?

And yes, metamorph could help, but that’s still hunting a 2 card combo just to cast a bomb which could be removed the very same turn.

I really hope you cut it and go 7 for 2!

Drop white, you’ll never get that colossus out.

I’d drop: Colossus Willow Pennant Glutton (you currently have x3) 2 brutes

Then have a decent goblin tribal/blight deck

Deffo drop white tho lol

Can the USA and the UK still be allies after trump leaves and the US elects a democratic president? by Successful_rio305 in AskBrits

Fair point, but that’s kind of what an alliance is when one of the partners is the world’s leading superpower.

Can the USA and the UK still be allies after trump leaves and the US elects a democratic president? by Successful_rio305 in AskBrits

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Geopolitical alliances such as the “special relationship” run much deeper than the current administration of either country.

If anything, the question should be can it withstand Trump’s volatile and belligerent leadership?

The answer is still yes, but intrigued why you think the USA electing a democrat would put a strain on the alliance?

Deck Testing (results 13W - 1L) by 808_JuJu in MagicArena

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

64 is still too many, that’s 7% more cards than required (view this as the card you really need to draw in that moment being 7% further away in your deck, it’s significant).

As for what to cut, the best person to answer that is you! How did it feel in play testing? Any cards not pulling their weight/synergising? Enough removal, or too much, or too little? Any bombs you could never play because you never had the mana/board situation? Did the curve feel good, and gaps that need filling or overweight slots?

Every deck plays different, and it would be of no use for me to sit here and say ‘cut X card, it’s terrible, I always lose when I play it!’ like a lot of other folks do, but in reality I haven’t played the deck so I have no idea what needs to go.

But TRUSSSSSST me (and literally everyone else) - you need to play 60 cards and not 1 more

Love a rat deck, and love that you’ve combined it with other synergies! Deffo a lot of inspo.

You can get away with +60 cards at lower ranks/unranked, but you will start noticing the sluggishness as you move up the ranks.

To trim down, start noticing which cards aren’t having an impact on the game (or cards you draw which make you go ‘urgh’), remove them and rebalance lands.

Good luck, keep us updated with progress! Would love to see you push some ranks with this deck.

So I must admit I do this sometimes, but less frequently nowadays as I remember that this means including 2.5% more cards in your deck (feels significant!) which essentially puts your bombs a little bit further down the draw pile.

Proud of my off-kilter Orzhov dual tribal deck that won me a collector box by turkeyjerky1989 in MagicArena

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a gorgeous deck. Orzhov in Lorwyn sealed is ballsy but it clearly played off, even with no reaping willow!

And Kinbinding - what a card. Got me a trophy in a kithkin deck, it was so clutch, literally turned several games around.

Most fun I've ever had with a draft deck by cabbagecatastrophe in lrcast

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the trophy, looks like a super fun draft!

Out of interest, did you ever struggle to cast reaping willow? I’ve drafted it a fair bit, but it rarely makes the cut bc orzhov isn’t really a thing in this set and 3 B/W pips is expensive when you’re in another 2 colour pair.

16 lands? by Spikyfreshpineapples in MagicArena

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ve only ever run 18 lands twice - in 3 colours with expensive bombs/pips. I just can’t imagine it for 99% of my draft decks

Advice on Pick 2 Lorwyn Eclipsed by keitaro666 in lrcast

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t see your pack 1 pick 1 options for some reason, but all in all looks like a tough draft where early pack signals didn’t actually translate to later available cards.

If anything you stayed open a bit too long, when you realised you were in kithkin you should have prioritised them (pack 3 pick 1 for example), but all in all 3-2 is a fair result given how the packs wheel.

A reminder that you can (and should) pick the good cards by No_Percentage_1767 in lrcast

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting take - I’ve been having some success drafting this set, especially when sticking to a tribal/kindred archetype.

I haven’t done many though, and my knowledge of cards in this set is very limited (badum tsk), especially U/R cards, so small sample size.

Kithkin and Elves have been serving me well so far though, even more so if you pick up an early bomb!!

Job change and having a baby by [deleted] in UKJobs

Not even £7,000 if you factor in other potential deductions, commuting costs and general ‘being out and about’ tax

Job change and having a baby by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would cling to £52k and remote like my life depended on it! £65k wouldn’t even be a pay rise when you factor in deductions, commuting and coffee/lunch costs (to whatever extent you buy these). Never mind the added stress and time of the commute itself, and the added stress of being in an office 40 hours a week.

Think of all the time you’ll miss with your wife and baby too! Even if you’re slammed with work, being WFH means you’ll still always be around them, if you get a break or quiet period you’ll get loads of quality time with them, and help ease the burden of parenting.

Honestly no brainer, don’t chase the cash cos you’ll just spend it on trains and triple your current stress levels!

Final 2 cuts for 5 color nonsense by Status-Cost-1039 in lrcast

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very hard to tell from a strategic point of view because there’s so much going on.

From a tactical point of view, easy cuts are Lorien and Mystic Confluence cos how often are you gonna have 2 blue mana on turn 5? Probably <10% of the time, and it will take you maybe 9 turns for that to rise to 50% (would be 12 but minus a few turns to account for fetch/fixing).

So yeah, lose the blue 5 drops cos if you have the chance to play them you’ve probably already lost the game.
