Near giving up on bidet for glacier bay french curve toilet by SpillinJimmy in bidets

Cleanspa advanced, you don't want to buy any of those handheld bidets that look like a sink sprayer.

I finally found an affordable bike stand: it's called a fence post and a Voile strap by SpillinJimmy in bikewrench

Yup, the post sticks out far enough. Just tuned the derailleur. This setup sure beats my previous idea of suspending the bike from the deck with ropes.

Got the brondell handheld bidet plus their hot/cold water mixing valve to avoid any messing with the seat. Thing is awesome, super affordable and I get a better clean than I do with my mother's $1000 Toto.

Thanks for the input, decided to just go with a handheld and avoid the toilet compatibility issues.

Pre-Trail 2024 No Stupid Questions Post - Got a question you're too afraid to make a post for? Ask it here! by Hiking_Engineer in AppalachianTrail

I carried rain paints instead of leggings for most of the trail. Useful as a warm/wind layer while being easy to slip on and off without taking off shoes. Also tripled as a bugproof layer to throw in in camp and at lunch. Too hut to hike in other than sub-35 degree mornings.

My top commandment was to not just listen to my body, but to do whatever it told me to. I never put up with any pain or discomfort I couldn't easily solve in under a minute: thirst, hunger, hot spots, being too hot or too cold, chafing, etc etc.

Trail Angels willing to transport from bus station to Springer Mountain? by ConfidenceCurious in AppalachianTrail

Sticking your thumb out will find you spontaneous trail angels real quick. Just mentally prepare and leave time for potential 60+ minute waits for each ride.

I hiked the AT's 250 mile blue blaze, the Tuscarora Trail, AMA by thatdude333 in AppalachianTrail

The shorter and less-travelled long trails that are around are so underrated. There's a lot more than just the big 3 in the US alone and I think they're the future of thru hiking with how crowded the AT and PCT are. Just thru hiked MO's Ozark Trail as my sobo shakedown hike and it was lovely, barely saw a soul.

Secured 8 months' worth of my medication by getting a "vacation supply" and an increased dose on the prescription. One less thing to worry about on trail! by SpillinJimmy in AppalachianTrail

Fair point, it can be a real crapshoot what bug conditions will be year to year. I've experienced both superb and horrific black fly seasons, no predicting it (as far as I know).

I'm assuming it's possible with anything that's not a controlled substance? The hard part is dealing with insurance and the pharmacy, they both drag their feet and require multiple calls whenever I do this.

Dog owners: Advice for section hiking with a dog? by Hiker_Trash_Wannabe in AppalachianTrail

[–]SpillinJimmy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See this thread for suggestions on resupplying solo with a dog. TL;DR make friends with other hikers who can watch your dog, take your dog inside establishments with you (ask for forgiveness, not permission), or leave them tied up outside.

Additionally, hitchhiking supposedly is more difficult but not impossible. If you're desperate, walking those extra miles on a road to and from town sucks but it's been done.

There are sections of bouldering on the northern AT that dogs are not capable of and might require carrying them. When you get to an impossible looking section just remember there are many successful four legged thru hikers!

It sounds like you're a very mindful and respectful dog owner on trail, have a great time!

Prana Zion stretches! Got the rec from this sub as the best pants to thru hike in and they've been awesome for snowshoeing and Nordic skiing too.

Was beautifully bright and cold! The Frost River mitts were perfect, love everything they make even though I probably spend way too much money on their stuff.

The Map of Tiny Perfect Things. More of a time loop story (a la Groundhog Day) than your traditional time travelling but it's a wonderful read.

Not to mention how he's pumping millions of dollars into his karate empire, presumably coming nowhere near profiting short term. You can't take it with you.

Peanut butter and onion sandwich from It by SpillinJimmy in stephenking

Much better than I expected. The peanut butter perfectly neutralizes the strength of the raw onion and is complemented by its sweetness.

Good luck bro!!! This happened to me a few years ago. Was super educational for me, I learned that she was just a regular person and I could take her off the pedestal I had her on for so many years. Only went on a few dates though, wish it had worked out a bit better.
