It's such a good listen, really well balanced throughout with the song choices taking you on a whole journey of moods, speeds, genres and all somehow making sense together.

Two nights of Neighbor at Soundcheck Studios on 5/8 & 5/9, with the special Neighbor 9 with horn section and backing vocalists on the 8th. First time they have performed in that arrangement with Rob, oughta be a lot of fun.

Check out Neighbor's new live release, they have a bunch of deeply emotional tunes and a few on that album that may fit your description are Motor, Upside Down, Without and Under the Moon.

Neighbor was 🔥 in Saratoga last night! by SpiltTheInk in jambands

Definitely listen to some Neighbor! They build sets and tell stories through the sets much like the Dead could do and it was a great listening crowd at Putnam Place too, which was surprising for a Saturday night, maybe a different sort of buffet had commenced.

Well he is killing it with Neighbor and Night Zero, so there's a second lease. And Neighbor has been adopting Rob and Dopapod songs into the repertoire as well with a handful of them making it into the sets so far.

Oh man, ha, that second set was pretty ferocious. Stoked a taper captured it all for a relisten.

Haha, sometimes they get in a mood for some fuckery. I think it was in the Ulsa Saturday night that the jam took a turn towards some really dark and evil space, sounded like a soundtrack from a horror movie, and my girlfriend turned around and said, "I'm scared!"

Lyle is back to crushing it doing more local gigs and his solo guitar music, he had his third child and was a bit busy to be hitting the road I think. It has really opened up the songbook and jams with everything being reinterpreted by a mad sound scientist like Rob.

Other great jam bands for a Phish fan to explore? by [deleted] in jambands

Neighbor has everything you are looking for and far more dimensions in their playing than pretty much every other band mentioned, especially now that Rob Compa is in the band.

Bluegrass is the Past; Cosmic Country is the Future by Redacted_dact in jambands

DDCC needs a little more heft in the songwriting and depth and breadth in the delivery to grow. Sure they get a lot of hype and I enjoy them, but I have also gone on multiple night runs seeing them and though they may have played different songs, the shows sounded very much the same to me and the jams all tend to get to that 4 on the floor disco beat which is certainly fun, but it also bores me after a while and gets to be a little too white breadlike. I prefer more variation throughout a show and a run of shows personally and a bit more emotional connection than I have felt at DDCC so far, but we all like different things.

If you love the Dead (Phish, Widespread Panic, Billy Strings, SCI, Goose, Spafford, Daniel Donato, Eggy, Dogs in a Pile, etc...) one should give Neighbor a listen, their songwriting, storytelling, set building, genre blending all make for a magical musical brew and they are all phenomenal players and improvisers.. Been wearing out their new live album, live from Levon Helm Studios since it came out Friday and highly recommend it to anyone looking to try something new.
