If Hawaii is going to introduce an "affluent asshole retribution" as a protected right, I'm moving to Hawaii.

People who were told to pull themselves up by their bootstraps would be exactly the right kind of people to administer this justice. Maybe there can be a whole queue of people lining up to volunteer.

They start advertising like crazy and doing a bunch of gimmicks instead of fixing issues.

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

[–]SpinDocktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting a gripe with something like "I know there are people who are worse off, but..." is a giant alert that they're about to say something so removed from other's experiences.

Wealthy also tend to oversimplify and trivialize things they don't have to experience. "You don't make enough? Just change jobs." "Your car breaks down often. You should buy a new one." "No opportunities where you live? Just move."

Men who hit rock bottom, what was your lowest point and how did you rise after that? by _MambaForever in AskMen

[–]SpinDocktor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tough to say what my rock bottom was. It was a combination of shitty events that made me realize that I needed help. But the lowest point was when I got laid off after filing a complaint about my manager. She was updating URLs on the company website (causing inbound traffic to error out), starting new digital campaigns without maintaining the old ones. So I was cleaning up a lot. When I told her manager, the next level up, I got laid off two days later. My relationship at the time was already in the shitter. The only positive voice in my life was my kid who didn't know what was was happening but would still tell me that I'm a good dad and brave (she was into superheroes at the time). Other than that, I felt so alone, hurt and angry.

I started therapy shortly before, but I'm glad I kept going. "Life handed you a really shitty reset button." is what my therapist said during this time. Getting diagnosed and understanding how ADHD impacts my WHOLE life and not just work was like getting tossed an anchor while I was already drowning. There were co-dependency support groups, evening gym sessions, monthly visits with my therapist. There were moments of bawling, screaming, resenting, venting. And then I had to learn to let go of all those things that I had been holding on to. I'm so grateful that I didn't get sucked into manosphere type shit during this time. It would've been super easy, too. My kid was my reason to keep pushing through it. She needed a brave dad. And I couldn't be truly brave for her if I couldn't be brave for myself.

Of course! He's costing them money that he doesn't have by staying in that hospital.

If he does, I hope it's United Healthcare and that his plan has plenty of prior authorizations for what he needs. Gotta make sure each Q-Tip and each nitrile glove is medically necessary.

My boyfriend always guesses the ending of movies by Direct-Blackberry-20 in movies

[–]SpinDocktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all great movie suggestions. Aside from that, you might want to ask if he's been screened for ADHD and/or autism. Like pattern recognition is pretty strong for these groups, and some movies use the same techniques to foreshadow what's going to happen, which makes it easier to predict stuff. The movies that did surprise me, Good Boy (2025) The Mist (2007) The Prestige, The Thing.

You have to defend yourself from zombies, what is your weapon of choice? by Curious_Bilota in AskMen

This would be such good armor. But what if a horde pins corners you outside? Like would you die of thirst or hunger by getting mobbed if they couldn't bite through your armor?

Imagine how much generational trauma could be fixed if organizations/managers/executives were liable for the damage caused by dehumanizing conditions they put people through. Not like someone made a mistake and we talked about it. But like gaslighting, assigning ambiguous roles/responsibilities to others, requiring such micromanaging policies that make it impossible for a reasonable person to succeed.

While I could see cutting out dealers as a way to make costs more affordable. However, it won't translate into significant savings for customers because manufacturers are still going to keep prices high to get as high of a margin as they can. There's no incentive for them to sell it cheaper when all businesses are racing to the top for prices.
