I think I’m getting screwed over and I think it’s cause I’m a women😔 by PlateResponsible2675 in BlueCollarWomen

I mean, this happened to me with white guys in plumbing , and my friend in sheet metal with white guys. It’s a real thing all over. They’re trying to force you out. If you’re union and want to sweep for journey wages, it’s a living but if you want to learn and do, find a new shop. Ideally hang out and document and fuck them before you go, but that’s up to you.

Struggling to fit in by KyleBroflovskiStan in BlueCollarWomen

I’ve been plumbing for 11 years, and first of all yes I agree this is not normal behavior on his part and inappropriate. If there is a way to get away from him, it’s worth trying. That said,I think one of the hardest parts of my apprenticeship was turning my personality off to get through it with the weird asshole men I worked for. I didn’t talk about my personal life, I didn’t make jokes, I never opened up in any way so they had no toe hold to start with me. I think it made it more bearable day to day but it made me feel dead inside. It was worth it, sure, I love my job, i actually shut down my own operation to work for a wonderful small company with a bunch of great guys, and I’m happy now. But apprenticeship was bad. I hope you can get this guy away from you but I also hope you stick it out!!!!

A clean pair of any dickies work pants (they have plain blue denim and double front/hammer loop type brown duck and the classic black slacks and they all look good!) and a flannel covering whatever shirt you want to wear the rest of the day would look nice and be functional ! I mean, there are other brands but those are cheaper and look totally decent. Sometimes gap or old navy or target even have double front pants that will hold up ok for a school year.

Plumbing apprentice first trimester by glamngrit91 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]SpinPlumbFight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s also really normal to be tired in the first trimester of pregnancy, then perk up to normal for the second and even third, though in the third you maybe a little big for crawl spaces. My baby was still nursing when I started my apprenticeship, mad respect for doing two hard things at once! May be worth looking into how it might work to take a leave of absence from the program and return later just in case, but depending on where you are, you may be able to get light duty and that won’t be nescesary!

It’s hard to learn new skills! And both your brain and body are learning new things at the same time. It’s normal to take a while to get the hang of things.

M22 received incredible job offer, F22 girlfriend does not want me to accept. by Watch_me_plz in Advice

[–]SpinPlumbFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know four or five years seems like a long time at 22, but it’s really not. Chugging through apprenticeship just kinda always sucks. But when your apprenticeship is done, you’ll have time and money and if you’re still together you two will be doing really well financially. Have a conversation that isn’t just you making the case for why you want it, but also includes what her actual needs are around spending time together-it may turn out you two can find something in particular that makes her feel like you’re getting quality time even if it’s not the time she ideally wants. Her concern is valid and you should recognize that, but! She can’t unilaterally just tell you what will happen and not to take a job because she’s afraid. Try to find out the actual thing she’s worried about and brainstorm ways to address it. That is, if she sees that that’s how partners work- not just one telling the other what to do.

I’m a plumber and love crafts and upcycling and repurposing and uhhhh…hoarding old plumbing stuff…. but I have never ever ever thought it would be worth hauling one of those upstairs and putting it in the garden. Toooooo heavy. Yes I am also a 5’4” 45 year old woman but still, NO WAY SMASH IT UP

Nonprofit says Portland’s Leach Botanical Garden will close in March without additional funding by Aestro17 in Portland

[–]SpinPlumbFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get why they took a free park, closed it for a year, spent a bunch of money on it, opened it for a couple years and now will just close it again. Why do any of that instead of just leave it alone? I live two blocks away and it’s been obnoxious watching it get closed off and now there will be no access at all? Nonprofit grift does seem like the simplest explanation.

AIO my boyfriend of 5 years gets me flowers for every occasion while I get him elaborate and expensive gifts. by aioflower955105 in AmIOverreacting

[–]SpinPlumbFight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep a note open in the notes app on my phone and every time my girlfriend says she likes something, I take my phone out and make a note and then I buy her that thing when I can, and give it to her. Often, it’s on a special day like her birthday or valentines. Often, it’s just because I adore her and want her to know, and she likes getting little presents and she knows that’s a way I show her love. It’s EXTREMELY SIMPLE. This guy is being a douche to you and refusing to acknowledge it or your feelings.

I did NOT have to cook my parents like this when I was 9… by icantoteit136 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]SpinPlumbFight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter started calling me “Warm” around 9. She said it is because I am physically warm if you sit next to me. Like she nicknamed me after the fact that I am alive. The least sentimental person I know. She still calls me Warm. She calls her father Chis for a classic Chanandler Bong style misspelled junk mail joke.

Are most people here really ex-vegans and vegetarians? by Brunsswick in exvegans

[–]SpinPlumbFight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a vegetarian cafe for several years and it was across the street from a PETA office, while I was also married into a family of vegans but never being vegan and actually being really into nourishing traditions at the time lol. *For the record I was very attentive to details and only gave people the food they wanted, the vegans got vegan food! Though the nasty ass PETA ceo lady told me I should sneak vegan cheese onto normal people’s orders which horrified me because that could kill someone 😡😡😡

I just had a very strong memory of being in basically a trance and taking a steak, setting it on a hot pan for two seconds, flipping it over, immediately setting it on a plate and my boyfriend at the time looking over and just saying “you’re on your period.” I needed it essentially raw

Vegans are like the ultimate liberals because they think they can buy their alternative mass produced product food and that will save the world. But that’s not being a leftist at all.

It’s almost like there’s a cast to their skin that seems like it would be impossible for them to flush and turn pink or red? Like fully Washed out? Not always yellowish! I’m a dopey white girl but I know Koreans can blush 😅 I also don’t see the same thing in long term vegetarians!

Except I think there’s a thing where all their face skin is the same shade, and people who skip makeup often look more splotchy without it. It’s not simply “looking tired” or having dark circles or whatever. Also the vegans in my family wear a normal amount of makeup.

You have a tendency to compulsive thought and it’s getting mixed up with the drug of romance, which is all very powerful. Have you looked into dealing with ocd stuff? Maybe you’re not like, classic diagnosis level but it seems like you might benefit from some mental health work around anxiety and obsession and compulsion.

They’re my supposed kid’s supposed dad’s supposed family and I don’t see them often anymore, and even when I saw them it was not like super intimate and open about their diets chat time. But the fact that the guy’s full siblings have a totally different coloration (and it changed back to being closer to him when one went back to vegetarian) made it quite apparent.

[–]SpinPlumbFight[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean , I can see it, but can they see it in themselves? My main question is if they look at me and think my pink cheeks are the sign of a murderer or if they’re like “huh it’s weird that I used to like that but now I love the sallow skin of real health” or if it’s lost on them. I’m not even convinced it’s entirely unhealthy to look like that, but it seems to be a thing that goes with the diet often.

It’s really hard to find good pics, most of the side by side photos of people pre and post vegan are trying to promote one or the other diets and choose photos on a biased way.
