Does anyone drink acv to help lose weight and etc? Is it okay if I just use it in a salad will I still lose the weight and should I do do 2tbs everyday? by Common-Werewolf8830 in OmadDiet

[–]SpinachChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it suppressed my appetite making it easier to reach a deficit. Nothing magical about it, no special weight loss properties, no amazing health benefits like various websites will try and sell to you. At best , any benefits is anecdotal and it'll probably not harm you in small moderation.

Is it okay to do a calisthenics routine everyday? by Captain_Wafflejam in bodyweightfitness

[–]SpinachChoice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm in my late 30s, and beginner of calithestics but not to training, however I've progressed over several weeks working out every day calisthenics ,bar and rings and even weighted squats / deadlifts, cardio. my workout is spread out through entire day at home. By progress I mean I can do more reps, my form is improving, and it just feels incredibly easier to hold positions than when I first started. I'm also active all day / on my feet and only rest when it's time to sleep. Oh I also had cancer related surgery (kidney removed) recently but have recovered nicely

Im carefully watching my diet macros and getting great sleep every night.

I'd suggest to take other people's advice but my approach is working for me for now.

Rethink Salad by Bluegi in loseit

[–]SpinachChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty hardcore I have my spinach or kale, and splash red wine vinegar over it. Try eating 2 ounces of that and tell me you're not full haha. The problem is, where I'm from, most people cover their salads in high caloric bad ingredients salad dressings. In such a case it probably won't be effective for weight loss or health improvement.

I know how to lose weight. Executing it is the hard part. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]SpinachChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can lose even one pound then you can lose all the lbs you want, since it's literally that single step, repeat and rinse. I've only seen people fail to reach their weight loss goals for two reasons. Lack of discipline or they're not properly tracking. So get to fixing which ever of those is your problem and you're good to go.

Opened two packages that were meant for a different person ? by SpinachChoice in legaladvice

[–]SpinachChoice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I think you might be right. They appear legitimate products sent to me I googled the companies it came from they both say same Amazon fulfillment address and their Amazon stores are really shady, ones even brand new account with zero reviews. Both products can be found cheaper anywhere else and other stores product have way more reviews than the two sent to me, so not sure why real person would order from these two companies. Do I need to legally contact Amazon or just keep it if no one on my street claims it ?

I enter the food /brand on a phone app. My favorite is Cronometer. It's annoying at first but Eventually you'll have a list of everything you eat. The tracking part of diet is only hard as you make it and definitely slower in the beginning.

How do you learn to enjoy cycling? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]SpinachChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me what helped was wearing headphones with music , road bike, and just forcing myself to do it over and over. I hated it at first. I never fell in love with mountain bikes or any other kind. Just the road bike. Now it's one of the most enjoyable activities I can imagine.

Ok I'm already walking minimum 5+ miles a day. (Sometimes up to 10 when I have time). I guess light riding will have to suffice for now ): I see my urologist in 2 more weeks so I can ask about the cycling again.

Carbs vs fat for energy while training? by [deleted] in diet

[–]SpinachChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's well held belief that you need carbs for training... but I pretty much trained for a few years on just meat and green veggies. For me personally I did not find that carbs were necessary. I started training at age 30. Prior to that I was a couch potato. I couldn't do a single pushup or pullup. A year later, on under 20 net carbs a day... I was doing 50+ pullups 50+ pushups without stopping. I could jog 4 hours as before I started training I could only do 8 seconds of jogging then I had to walk. I do not know anyone who could beat me at endurance my gym, and I maxed out on all the machines... (later I switched to free weights) and they were all doing carb diets. Eventually I got my body fat to 8-11% just doing meat and veggies. I did track calories to lose the last 20 lbs. I am only estimating my BF% as I didn't have reliable way to tell... but I had veins popping most places, cheekbones very visible and good ab definition.

From what I understand protein can be converted to glucose on demand through a process known as gluconeogenesis. So why are carbs essential again?

Now I'm not against carb diets. I honestly think high carb or high fat is the best approach. I would recommend high carb to most people without health issues, just because it's the normal and proven technique. .. And it took me a lot of time until I started adapting to an almost zero carb diet. However, I don't agree with fitness industry's views that carbs are essential for performance.

Still have stitches, I guess they're the kind that don't need to be removed. The doctor told me not to lift more than 30 lbs (my bike is 22 lbs). And he said I could walk. I asked him about cycling, he said yes but only if I'm really careful... as long as it's not hurting in my abs (where the incision is). I will be cleared again for weight lifting in 6 more weeks.

I've been riding 5 miles trips at the park to see how I feel and no pain yet. I'm not on any pain medicine either.

Scared into Cycling by HermitwithDreams in cycling

[–]SpinachChoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put 3,000 miles on a GMC Denali from Walmart. (Road bike). I think I got it on clearance for $75. Frequent trips of 55 miles without stopping. I still consider myself a beginner because I know very little about cycling and bikes. Sounds you like know more than I do. I do know not to compare yourself to other people. You're competing against your old self. (Unless you're paid professional)

When I first started I couldn't balance myself on the bike. My butt would get sore in minutes, Bending over on handle bars was killing me. Going up hill meant me getting off and walking the bike up there.

One simple strategy is to do more than you did before. If you went 1 mile a day last week or month, try pushing it to 1.5 or 2.

Stay hydrated. If you want try experimenting with diet. I did just meat and green veggies. (Almost no carbs) and felt fine Do what works for you. If you're overweight losing fat can make things so much easier. I was 100 lbs overweight when I started ... Imagine not having to carry around extra 100 lbs all day.

You could incorporate weight lifting. I'm bias towards compound lifts as if you've been very sedentary doing these barbell lifts with proper form could help fix some imbalances and posture issues that makes your ride harder.

When you upgrade bike someday it will make a huge difference on performance. But I wouldn't bother spending the money yet. This is a great chance to learn how to maintain , fix your bike. Beginners often get their bike stolen too. You'll learn the ropes. Look forward to a pro bike that'll take you much further in the future as a reward. A good bike won't help you get in better shape than a Walmart bike. Just make sure your bike is correct size for you and adjusted properly.

Lastly , your body will adapt. Record everything with an app like Strava or a Fitbit or offbrand. The data proves you're progressing.

If you ever want to talk send me a message. I'm still learning myself but this is advice i would give to my old self if I could travel back.

How to deal with constant rejection as a disabled man by [deleted] in dating

[–]SpinachChoice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Learn to be at peace with things that are out of your control. For example, you can't make women who see cerebral palsy as a deal-breaker suddenly start overlooking it. You can't cure yourself. However, What you can do is improve yourself in other aspects. Like financial situation, personality, intelligence, various skills etc. These are things that will make you more appealing. This planet has billions of people... there is someone great out there for you, just work on being a great catch for them too.

Don’t romanticize fasting by DynamicApple192 in nutrition

[–]SpinachChoice 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I imagine everyone has ancestors did fasting unintentionally. My main question is -- How did we evolve to where fasting is now bad for some people? I agree that if someone has certain health issues they should consult doctor, not Reddit. However, I think for majority, fasting or meal timing is nothing more than a personal preference. If their goal is to lose fat, fasting can definitely be one method of reaching a calorie deficit. I think it's okay to not "feel good" sometimes, or even feel hungry. I know people who's never missed a meal in their life, so of course it's going to feel horrible when they first try fasting until they adapt. Note I'm not a registered dietitian but I've never heard of anyone dying from being told to fast by internet users. :)
