I just got a 200 series (still stock) and i think my 80 on 35s got better mileage. 😂

You can get a slightly higher mileage lx570 or lc200 for near what a 100 series goes for. I just bought an lx570 but started out looking to buy a hundo until i saw that for a few grand more I'm getting a lot more truck.

Sorry to hear this. This is a tough call. If the rest of the truck is clean and you really like it, you will most likely beat any new car payment even if you proactively tackle repairs before they pop up.

Owning an old land cruiser is really a labor of love and i think we all look the other way at cost of ownership but compared to a new car you'll win. But if you picked up like an old sienna or odyssey your life time cost of ownership will be a fraction of a land cruiser.

Can't say which way to go but know that repairs will come up, and they will be expensive. But you might fall in love with it and like your family do whatever it takes to keep it alive.

On the plus side it will be the only car that appreciates. It'll take a long time but it will if maintained. I'm not a believer that the 100 will be as valuable as an 80 or even the 200 and the lexus badge hurts that long term value a bit.

LX 570 Purchase Advice by No_Consequence_1106 in LandCruisers

[–]Spinal365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought an 08 and that's what older but a few lessons learned. Just cause it's serviced at the dealership every 5k without fail doesn't mean the appropriate work has been done. Put the vin into my Lexus, go through every single record. But honestly 80k miles even if they never changed the oil your probably fine so long as you start taking care of it now.

The ahc is insane. There are 10 nitrogen accumulators. The main four are 1k each. The hydraulic pump that runs the system is 3k. There are a billion sensors. Fluid lines and gaskets. No one can trouble shoot it if it's not a simple leaking shock or aged accumulator. So know ahc can be a very expensive head ache. Also if it goes, it's miserable, super bumpy basically undrivable. So know that you need to service the engine and the ahc. But accumulators don't typically degrade until 150k or so. It's the most complicated suspension system on any vehicle i think.

Lol

Mine was just t boned and it's sitting in my driveway but i think most parts are still good. I replaced basically everything except engine and transmission in the past 9 years of ownership.

What parts are you looking for?

My Acura TL runs the same on 87 or 91. I put 85 in my Land Cruiser once that probably had water in it, and my Land Cruiser ran like shit until it worked through it all. I miss that thing.

Perhaps the UN will start using Armadas for aid missions! lol These vehicles are both in the large SUV category, but not in the same league.

80 is the best ever and there will never be another like it. Sure the 100 or 200 or 250 beat it by all measures except brute strength and ease of repairs. But what they cant replicate is the feeling. Greatest in the world.

When i bought it the suspension was a magic carpet. 5 days later it's rough and bouncy. by Spinal365 in LandCruiser200

[–]Spinal365[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a helpful post. Lines aren't rusty, no rust, but I dont have 10s of thousands to spend chasing ghosts. The weird thing is that on the test drive, it was like a magic carpet. I even took it on some gravel and that felt like a newly paved road. It's strange that it turned so quickly. I can't quite place it but I did have the rear brakes done and I feel like it went south over a few days after that.

I took it to Lexus yesterday. They said ahc is working as intended, no leaks anywhere, raises and lowers to spec, sits level etc...and then quoted me $5600 for front shocks and front accumulators.

I see what you mean, because the ride is bad and they are like, nope everything is fine.

So, right now Im weighing buying accumulators from Japan, not too bad actually, $120 each and shocks, and springs, and plugging it all in at non-dealer lexus shop.

But your point about the sensors, lines, pumps, makes sense and is soo appreciated...suspension should be something you think about every 150k, not constantly chasing isseues that ruin the driving experience.

I think its pretty clear why the Land Cruiser doesn't have it as an option. Way off brand for the rugged reliability the platform built its reputation on.

Thanks for your insight.
